Chronic inflammation contributes to cancer development and progression. Although interleukin-1beta (IL-1β) has been observed to be associated with an general immune suppression of T cell response and the immunosuppression strongly correlates with accumulation of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs), the relationship and mechanism between MDSCs expansion and IL-1β expression remain ambiguous. Here, we showed that the concentration of IL-1β was highly correlated with G-MDSC subset, rather than mo-MDSC subset.

Introduction: Traditional fully cemented prosthesis for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has many disadvantages. Current studies have shown that the effects of mixed fixation TKA are the same as or even better than those of fully cemented TKA. We aimed to compare the total blood loss (TBL) in the two fixation types of TKA and the hemostatic effects of different doses of tranexamic acid (TXA) for reverse hybrid TKA.

Summary: The recent outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has become a global epidemic. Corticosteroids have been widely used in the treatment of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), and the pathological findings seen in severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection are very similar to those observed in severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus (SARS-CoV) infection. However, the long-term use of corticosteroids (especially at high doses) is associated with potentially serious adverse events, particularly steroid-induced avascular necrosis of the femoral head (SANFH).

Evaluation of allelic alterations in short tandem repeats in papillary thyroid cancer.

Mol Genet Genomic Med

April 2020

Institute of Forensic Medicine and Laboratory Medicine, Jining Medical University, Forensic Science Center of Jining Medical University, Jining, Shandong, PR China.

Background: Malignant tissue samples may be the only source of biological material for forensic investigations, including individual identification or paternity testing; however, such samples may lead to uncertainties due to frequent genomic aberrations associated with tumors, including alterations of the short tandem repeat (STR) loci used for forensic casework.

Methods: Short tandem repeat loci routinely used in forensic analysis (n = 23) were analyzed in 68 surgically removed papillary thyroid cancer specimens. Tumor cells and normal stromal cells were separated by laser capture microdissection.

Purpose: Accumulating evidence suggests that microRNA-145 (miR-145) plays an important role in osteoarthritis (OA), which is a chronic progressive joint disease. Long noncoding RNA metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) promotes metastasis in cancers and functions as a sponge for miR-145. However, the role of MALAT1/miR-145 in OA pathogenesis has not yet been elucidated.

Purpose: Long noncoding RNA (LncRNA) containing microRNA host gene is an interesting type of LncRNA. MicroRNA-31 (miR-31)-host gene LncRNA (MIR31HG) have been recognized as an oncogene in many cancers, but not in osteosarcoma (OS). Interestingly, MIR31HG/miR-31 could not regulate each other's expression in certain cancer, suggesting that the role of MIR31HG in cancer is independent of miR-31.
