Background: Risk assessment before treatment is important for gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), which will determine the priority of surgery or preoperative treatment. The prognostic nutritional index (PNI) is an integrated parameter consisting of serum albumin and lymphocyte count. Immunonutritional status defined in this manner is well-known to be closely linked to the prognosis of several other cancers.

Applicability of newly derived second and third molar maturity indices for indicating the legal age of 16 years in the Southern Chinese population.

Leg Med (Tokyo)

September 2020

Department of General Dentistry, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, College of Stomatology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Stomatology & Shanghai Research Institute of Stomatology, China. Electronic address:

In China, forensic age estimation in the living has become increasingly important in these few years. Due to increasing juvenile crimes, the age of 16 years has become the legal age threshold for determining whether the juvenile criminal law or adult criminal law applies to the citizen. This study aimed to assess new cut-off values of the third molar maturity index (I) and second molar maturity index (I) at the legal age threshold of 16 years in Southern Chinese population and then to compare the applicability of the cut-off values of I and I we set for discriminating whether a subject is ≥ 16 years.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common type of malignancy with a poor prognosis, due to a high frequency of metastasis and tumor recurrence. It has been reported that deletion and/or mutation of the PTEN gene can be involved in the pathogenesis of many types of cancers through the activation of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. Immunohistochemical staining was conducted to detect PTEN expression in CRC, adenomas and normal tissues.

Chinese SLE treatment and research group registry: III. association of autoantibodies with clinical manifestations in Chinese patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.

J Immunol Res

December 2014

Key Laboratory of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology, Department of Rheumatology, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Ministry of Education, No. 1 Shuaifuyuan, Beijing 100730, China ; Department of Rheumatology, Peking Union Medical College and Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Beijing 100730, China.

We investigated the characteristics of Chinese SLE patients by analyzing the association between specific autoantibodies and clinical manifestations of 2104 SLE patients from registry data of CSTAR cohort. Significant (P<0.05) associations were found between anti-Sm antibody, anti-rRNP antibody, and malar rash; between anti-RNP antibody, anti-SSA antibody, and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH); between anti-SSB antibody and hematologic involvement; and between anti-dsDNA antibody and nephropathy.

Objectives: To estimate the prevalence of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and risk factors for PAH in patients registered in the Chinese SLE Treatment and Research group (CSTAR) database, the first online registry of Chinese patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

Methods: A prospective cross-sectional study of patients with SLE was conducted using the CSTAR registry. Resting transthoracic echocardiography was used to estimate pulmonary artery pressure (PAP); PAH was defined as systolic PAP (PASP)≥40 mmHg.

CRP gene polymorphism contributes genetic susceptibility to dyslipidemia in Han Chinese population.

Mol Biol Rep

December 2014

Department of Cardiology, The Fourth People's Hospital of Shenzhen City, Affiliated to Guangdong Medical College, Shenzhen City, 518033, China.

C-reactive protein (CRP), an inflammatory marker that statistically predicts future cardiovascular risk, has been reported to be associated with plasma lipid level changes. Whether CRP genetic variants affect lipid metabolism is of importance to investigate. A community-based study population including 2,731 adult subjects aged 18-62 years was used to evaluate the association of CRP gene with dyslipidemia and five tagging SNPs (tagSNPs) were genotyped.

Objective: To investigate the interference and expression of human glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (hGDNF) and soluble TNF alpha (sTNFR I) receptor genes in neural stem cells and to evaluate the roles of these proteins in the genetic treatment of spinal cord injury.

Methods: Full-length of GDNF cDNA (558 bp) and sTNFR I cDNA (504 bp) were inserted into the early 1 region of adenovirus genomic DNA respectively and were immediated by the human cytomegalovirus (gene promoter/enhancer). These adenoviruses were propagated in HEK293 cells via homologous recombination for 7-10 days in vivo, then they were used to infect human neural stem cells.

Objective: To investigate the value of Tei index and the sensitivity of left versus right ventricular Tei index in evaluating the fetal cardiac function in pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome in the third trimester.

Methods: Fetal echocardiograms were performed in 30 women with pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) syndrome and 55 with normal pregnancy of the third trimester. Tei index was obtained by calculating the ratio of the isovolumic time (isovolumic contraction and relaxation time) to the ejection time of the left and right ventricle.
