Objective: To explore treatments of severe post-kidney-transplant lung infection by integrative Chinese and Western medicine (ICWM), in order to elevate the curing rate as well as to lower the death rate.

Methods: Based on conventional ways of Western medical treatments of 18 cases of severe post-kidney-transplant lung infection, such as putting the patients in single individual ward, antibiotics to prevent infection, respiratory machines, blood filtration, nutritional support, steroids, and maintaining electrolytes balance, we applied integrated Chinese medicinal treatments, like altering conventional prescription "pneumonia III", and conducted clinical observation of effectiveness, and indexes including white blood cell (WBC), neutrophilic granulocyte, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), blood creatinine (Cr), etc.

Results: Of the 18 cases studied, 7 were already cured, 8 proved the treatment effective, 3 died.

Objective: Infants less than 35 weeks of gestational age are susceptible to peri-/intraventricular hemorrhage (PIVH). This may be due in part to low concentrations of vitamin K-dependent coagulation factors. This study was conducted to determine the umbilical cord blood activities of vitamin K-dependent coagulation factors II, VII, IX and X in premature infants to understand whether preterm infants have absence status of these factors the changes of theses factors' activities in premature infants' umbilical blood after vitamin K(1) was given to mothers antenatally and the preventing effectiveness of PIVH after maternal antenatal supplement of vitamin K(1).

Purpose: To examine the possibility that structural damage to the brain may play a role in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia by measuring the level of plasma S-100B, a calcium-binding protein found predominantly in the cytosol of glial cells.

Method: Fifty-seven Chinese psychiatric inpatients who met DSM-IV diagnosis of schizophrenia and 60 healthy controls were enrolled in the study. Patients were assessed with the Positive and Negative Symptoms Scale (PANSS) at admission and at 12 weeks after treatment.

Objective: Inhaled glucocorticosteroids (ICS) remains the first line controller medication for chronic airway inflammation in asthma till now. If the impact of allergen could not be eliminated, how would the improvement of airway inflammation be achieved with inhaled glucocorticosteroids therapy? What was its effect on airway remodeling? In this study, an animal model of asthma was established and the effects of budesonide on airway allergic inflammation and extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition in sensitized guinea pigs with repeated exposure to allergen were investigated.

Methods: Thirty-two male Hartley guinea pigs were randomly divided into four groups with 8 in each group: (A) Group of repeated exposure to ovalbumin (OVA), (B) Group of repeated exposure to OVA plus budesonide (BUD) intervention, (C) Group of stopping repeated exposure to OVA plus stopping BUD intervention, (D) Control group.
