Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effectiveness of Pan-immune-inflammation value (PIV) as a biomarker for predicting major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and the severity of coronary artery stenosis in patients with STEMI post-PCI.
  • It involved 542 STEMI patients who underwent PCI and analyzed various inflammatory markers, concluding that PIV shows stronger predictive power compared to other indices like SII, PLR, and NLR.
  • Results indicated a strong correlation between PIV and the Gensini score, suggesting its potential as a reliable predictor for patient outcomes during hospitalization.

Background: CDK4 is highly expressed and associated with poor prognosis and decreased survival in advanced neuroblastoma (NB). Targeting CDK4 degradation presents a potentially promising therapeutic strategy compared to conventional CDK4 inhibitors. However, the autophagic degradation of the CDK4 protein and its anti-proliferation effect in NB cells has not been mentioned.

Background: Some challenges still exist with single-target B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapies due to variable or negative BCMA expression, although they have yielded remarkable efficacy in relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma. We developed anti-BCMA/GPRC5D bispecific CARs to mitigate the limitations and potentiate the functions of CAR T cells.

Methods: This single-arm, phase 1 trial was conducted at the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University (Xuzhou, China).

Background: Lung cancer, characterized by its high morbidity and lethality, necessitates thorough research to enhance our understanding of its pathogenesis and discover novel therapeutic approaches. Recent studies increasingly demonstrate that lung cancer cells can modulate the tumor microenvironment, promoting tumor growth, and metastasis through the release of exosomes. Exosomes are small vesicles secreted by cells and contain a variety of bioactive molecules such as proteins, nucleic acids, and metabolites.

Purpose: Construction of a prediction model to predict the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in the long term after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Method: Retrospective analysis of STEMI patients treated with PCI from April 2018 to April 2021 in Fuyang People's Hospital. Lasso regression was used to screen the risk factors for the first occurrence of MACE in patients, and multifactorial logistic regression analysis was used to construct a prediction model.

Background: Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) demonstrates great promise as a diagnostic tool for determining the cause of pathogenic infections. The standard diagnostic procedures (SDP) include smears and cultures and are typically viewed as less sensitive and more time-consuming when compared to mNGS. There are concerns about the logistics and ease of transition from SDP to mNGS.

Background: Nitric oxide (NO) is the most important vasodilator secreted by vascular endothelial cells, and its abnormal synthesis is involved in the development of cardiovascular disease. The prenatal period is a critical time for development and largely determines lifelong vascular health in offspring. Given the high incidence and severity of gestational hypoxia in mid-late pregnancy, it is urgent to further explore whether it affects the long-term synthesis of NO in offspring vascular endothelial cells.

Reduced enzyme activity in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and poor targeting limit the application of enzyme-activating prodrugs, which is also detrimental to the effective treatment of HCC. Here, we investigated whether accelerated blood clearance (ABC) phenomenon occurs in HCC models following repeated injections of PEGylated liposomes (PEG-L), thus inducing prodrug accumulation and activation in the liver and exerting highly effective and low-toxicity therapeutic effects on HCC. First, PEGylated liposomal cyclophosphamide was prepared by solvent injection and characterized.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers developed tough silk nanofiber-derived cryogels that promote both angiogenesis (blood vessel formation) and osteogenesis (bone formation) for potential use in bone regeneration.
  • The cryogels incorporate deferoxamine (DFO), which enhances blood vessel growth, and their mechanical properties (how stiff they are) can be adjusted by changing the amount of silk nanofibers used.
  • In animal tests, these materials demonstrated improved healing of bone tissue in rat femur defects, showing promise for future applications in regenerative medicine.

Background And Purpose: Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is a common cause of stroke and senile vascular cognitive impairment, imposing a heavy burden on public health care systems worldwide. Hypertension and 24-hour blood pressure variability (BPV), known to be significant risk factors for cognitive dysfunction, have been found to be associated with cognitive function in CSVD patients in previous studies. However, as a derived part of BPV, there are few studies on the relationship between circadian rhythm of blood pressure and cognitive dysfunction in CSVD patients, and the relationship between them is still unclear.
