Preparation and efficacy of antibacterial methacrylate monomer-based polymethyl methacrylate bone cement containing N-halamine compounds.

Introduction: Our objective in this study was to prepare a novel type of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) bone cement, analyze its material properties, and evaluate its safety and antibacterial efficacy.

Methods: A halamine compound methacrylate antibacterial PMMA bone cement containing an N-Cl bond structure was formulated, and its material characterization was determined with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and H-NMR. The antibacterial properties of the material were studied using contact bacteriostasis and releasing-type bacteriostasis experiments.

Sign of Neck Mass as the Chief Complaint: A Case Report and Literature Review About Thyroid Metastasis of Colorectal Cancer.

Background: Commonly, the thyroid gland is regarded as an organ with fewer metastatic diseases, and colorectal metastasis to the thyroid (CMT) is rarely reported, especially, with that the clinical sign of thyroid metastasis nidus is the chief complaint. The CMT occurs in advanced colorectal cancer and is associated with poor prognosis and short survival.

Case Report: In this case, we reported a patient with the sign of neck mass as the first manifestation of CMT.

This study aimed to investigate the predictive value of triglyceride glucose index (TyG) combined with neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) for in-hospital cardiac adverse event (MACE) after PCI in STEMI patients. From October 2019 to June 2023, 398 STEMI patients underwent emergency PCI in the Second People's Hospital of Hefei.

Paraspinal muscle parameters' predictive value for new vertebral compression fractures post-vertebral augmentation: Nomogram development and validation.

Objective: Prior research underscores the significance of paraspinal muscles in maintaining spinal stability. This study aims to investigate the predictive value of paraspinal muscle parameters for the occurrence of new vertebral compression fractures (NVCF) following percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) or percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) in patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCF).

Methods: Retrospectively collected data from October 2019 to February 2021 (internal validation,  = 235) and March 2021 to November 2021 (external validation,  = 105) for patients with OVCF treated with PVP/PKP at our institution.

Purpose: To develop and validate a nomogram for assessing the risk of developing hypercapnic respiratory failure (HRF) in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD).

Patients And Methods: From January 2019 to August 2023, a total of 334 AECOPD patients were enrolled in this research. We employed the Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression and multivariate logistic regression to determine independent predictors and develop a nomogram.

Whether Klotho plays any role in hypothyroidism is unknown. This study aimed to determine the relationship between serum Klotho levels and hypothyroidism in older adults. From the 2007 to 2012 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), 1444 older adults aged 65-79 were included in this cross-sectional study.

Background: Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a prevalent condition that is thought to be significantly impacted by oxidative stress. The oxidative balance score (OBS) has been built to characterize the state of antioxidant/pro-oxidant balance. There is less known regarding the relationship of OBS with ED.

Establishment and validation of a predictive model for tracheotomy in critically ill patients and analysis of the impact of different tracheotomy timing on patient prognosis.

Background: In critically ill patients receiving invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV), it is unable to determine early which patients require tracheotomy and whether early tracheotomy is beneficial.

Methods: Clinical data of patients who were first admitted to the ICU and underwent invasive ventilation for more than 24 h in the Medical Information Marketplace in Intensive Care (MIMIC)-IV database were retrospectively collected. Patients were categorized into successful extubation and tracheotomy groups according to whether they were subsequently successfully extubated or underwent tracheotomy.

Construction and validation of nomogram model for predicting the risk of ventricular arrhythmia after emergency PCI in patients with acute myocardial infarction.

Objective: To make predictions about the risk of MVA (Malignant Ventricular Arrhythmia) after primary PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) in patients with AMI (Acute Myocardial Infarction) through constructing and validating the Nomogram model.

Methods: 311 AMI patients who suffered from emergency PCI in Hefei Second People's Hospital from January 2020 to May 2023 were selected as the training set; 253 patients suffering from the same symptom in Hefei First People's Hospital during the same period were selected as the validation set. Risk factors were further screened by means of multivariate logistic and stepwise regression.

Objective: Maternal vitamin D deficiency is a prevalent public health issue worldwide. While isolated reports from certain cities in China have highlighted the existence of maternal vitamin D deficiency, no nationwide investigation has been conducted on this topic. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis and systematic review to examine the prevalence and associated influencing factors of maternal vitamin D deficiency in mainland China.

Development and validation of a nomogram for predicting mortality in patients with acute severe traumatic brain injury: A retrospective analysis.

Background: Recent evidence links the prognosis of traumatic brain injury (TBI) to various factors, including baseline clinical characteristics, TBI specifics, and neuroimaging outcomes. This study focuses on identifying risk factors for short-term survival in severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI) cases and developing a prognostic model.

Methods: Analyzing 430 acute sTBI patients from January 2018 to December 2023 at the 904th Hospital's Neurosurgery Department, this retrospective case-control study separated patients into survival outcomes: 288 deceased and 142 survivors.

Relationship between remnant cholesterol and short-term prognosis in acute ischemic stroke patients.

Objective: Several studies have illustrated that elevated RC levels are related to a heightened risk of acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Our research aimed to explore the correlation between RC levels and poor prognosis after a 90-day interval in AIS patients.

Methods: A total of 287 individuals were enrolled in the study, the primary outcome was defined as poor prognosis.

Background: Our objective is to describe the current prevalence and death of ischemic heart disease (IHD) in women of childbearing age (WCBA) at the global, regional, and national levels and to analyze its temporal trends from 1990 to 2019.

Methods: WCBA was defined as women aged 15-49 years. Estimates and 95% Uncertainty Intervals (UI) of IHD prevalence and death numbers for seven age groups were extracted from the 2019 Global Burden of Disease Study.

Left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD) is prone to distant organ ischemia and may be a predictor for poor prognosis in AIS patients undergoing intravenous thrombolysis (IVT).
