Background: Neutrophil to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (NHR) has demonstrated predictive value for coronary artery disease (CAD). However, few research has been conducted on the predictive capacity of NHR for Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events (MACE) following Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) or the degree of coronary artery stenosis in hospitalized ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients.

Methods: The study involved 486 patients diagnosed with STEMI between the years 2020 and 2023.

Reduced enzyme activity in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and poor targeting limit the application of enzyme-activating prodrugs, which is also detrimental to the effective treatment of HCC. Here, we investigated whether accelerated blood clearance (ABC) phenomenon occurs in HCC models following repeated injections of PEGylated liposomes (PEG-L), thus inducing prodrug accumulation and activation in the liver and exerting highly effective and low-toxicity therapeutic effects on HCC. First, PEGylated liposomal cyclophosphamide was prepared by solvent injection and characterized.

Background: The research findings on the effects of subthalamic nucleus (STN) deep brain stimulation (DBS) in Parkinson's disease (PD) with Rapid Eye Movement Sleep Behavior Disorder (RBD) are inconsistent, and there is a lack of research on DBS electrode sites and their network effects for the explanation of the differences. Our objective is to explore the optimal stimulation sites (that is the sweet spot) and the brain network effects of STN-DBS for RBD in PD.

Methods: In this study, among the 50 PD patients who underwent STN-DBS treatment, 24 PD patients with RBD were screened.

Background: The mixed lineage leukemia (MLL)-eleven-nineteen lysine-rich leukemia (ELL) fusion gene is a rare occurrence among the various MLL fusion genes. We present the first case in which myeloid sarcoma (MS) was the only manifestation of adult MLL-ELL-positive acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

Case Summary: We report a case of a 33-year-old male patient who was admitted in June 2022 with a right occipital area mass measuring approximately 7 cm × 8 cm.

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) shares similar immune characteristics with autoimmune diseases like systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). However, such associations have not yet been investigated at the single-cell level.

Methods: We integrated and analyzed RNA sequencing results from different patients and normal controls from the GEO database and identified subsets of immune cells that might involve in the pathogenesis of SLE and COVID- 19.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a common clinical problem in orthopedics with a lack of effective treatments and drug targets. In the present study, we performed bioinformatic analysis of SCI datasets GSE464 and GSE45006 in the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) public database and experimentally validated CCL2 expression in an animal model of SCI. This was followed by stimulation of PC-12 cells using hydrogen peroxide to construct a cellular model of SCI.

Background: Systemic immune inflammatory index (SII) and systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI) are combinations of non-specific inflammatory and adaptive immune response impairments associated with cardiovascular disease. Yet little analysis has been done on SII, SIRI and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) prognosis. The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation of SII and SIRI with clinical risk factors such as GRACE, Gensini, and QTc after acute myocardial infarction.

Partitioning defective 3 (Par3) is a polarity protein critical in establishing epithelial cell polarity and tight junctions (TJs). Impaired intestinal epithelial barrier integrity is closely associated with colitis-associated colorectal cancer (CRC) progression. According to the GEO and TCGA database analyses, we first observed that the expression of Par3 was reduced in CRC patients.

Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, School of Public Health, Anhui Medical University, 81 Meishan Road, Hefei, 230032, Anhui, People's Republic of China.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a threat to public health issue with high morbidity and disability worldwide. However, unequivocal evidence on the link between air pollution and OA remains little, especially in multi-study sites. This study aimed to explore the relationship between short-term exposure to main air pollutants and the risk of OA outpatient visits in multi-study sites.

Background: Cervical stiffness, coronal imbalance and limited hip movement all play crucial roles in designing the corrective surgery for ankylosing spondylitis-related thoracolumbar kyphosis (AS-TLK). However, a comprehensive classification and tailored strategies for directing clinical work are lacking. This study aims to investigate the types and surgical strategies for AS-TLK that consider cervical stiffness, coronal imbalance and hip involvement as the key factors.

Background: Even though intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) is a current treatment for Kawasaki disease (KD), 10-20% of patients require additional therapy. This study seeks to investigate the therapeutic effects of glucocorticoids plus IVIG on KD and to ascertain the subsequent effect on platelet activation during the acute phase.

Methods: A total of 32 children with KD were randomly classified into two groups: the experimental group (16 cases) and the control group (16 cases).

Background: Ventricular remodeling after acute anterior wall ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (AAMI) is an important factor in occurrence of heart failure which additionally results in poor prognosis. Therefore, the treatment of ventricular remodeling needs to be further optimized. Compound Danshen Dripping Pills (CDDP), a traditional Chinese medicine, exerts a protective effect on microcirculatory disturbance caused by ischemia-reperfusion injury and attenuates ventricular remodeling after myocardial infarction.

College & Hospital of Stomatology, Anhui Medical University, Key Lab. of Oral Diseases Research of Anhui Province, Hefei, 230032, China; Department of Periodontology, Anhui Stomatology Hospital Affiliated to Anhui Medical University, Hefei, 230032, China. Electronic address:

Diabetes mellitus (DM) and osteoporosis are two major health care problems worldwide. Emerging evidence suggests that DM poses a risk for osteoporosis and can contribute to the development of diabetes-induced osteoporosis (DOP). Interestingly, some epidemiological studies suggest that DOP may be at least partially distinct from those skeletal abnormalities associated with old age or postmenopausal osteoporosis.

Oxidative stress induced by reactive oxygen species (ROS) is promising treatment approach for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), which is typically insensitive to conventional chemotherapy. In this study, BxPC-3 pancreatic cancer cell membrane-coated upconversion nanoparticles/ZnMnS core-shell nanoparticles (abbreviated as BUC@ZMS) were developed for tumor-targeted cancer therapy synergistically oxidative stress and overcoming glutathione (GSH) overexpression. Using a combination of photodynamic therapy (PDT) and chemodynamic therapy (CDT), the BUC@ZMS core-shell nanoparticles were able to elicit the death of pancreatic cancer cells through the high production of ROS.
