Sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, commonly utilized for diabetic nephropathy, have demonstrated benefits beyond glucose control, including organ protection. This study investigated the protective effects of the SGLT2 inhibitor, dapagliflozin (DAPA), on palmitate-induced renal tubular epithelial cell (HK-2) injury, particularly concentrating on mitochondrial function and oxidative stress. HK-2 cells were treated with 150 μmol/L palmitate to induce mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress, and they were co-treated with 2 μmol/L DAPA for 24 h.

Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) membrane-coated metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) represent an innovative approach to enhance the uptake and therapeutic efficacy of copper-based MOFs (Cu-MOFs) in tumor cells. By leveraging the natural homing abilities and biocompatibility of MSC membranes, Cu-MOFs can be effectively targeted to tumor sites, promoting increased cellular uptake. This coating not only facilitates superior internalization by cancer cells but also augments the therapeutic outcomes due to the enhanced delivery of copper ions.

Background: Microvascular invasion (MVI) is a significant indicator of the aggressive behavior of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Expanding the surgical resection margin and performing anatomical liver resection may improve outcomes in patients with MVI. However, no reliable preoperative method currently exists to predict MVI status or to identify patients at high-risk group (M2).

This research seeks to examine the correlation between the triglyceride-glucose index and the hazard of all-cause and cardiovascular death in individuals with cardiovascular disease (CVD). By evaluating the index, we can better anticipate and assess the risk and prognosis of CVD patients, and provide precise and individualized guidance for clinical treatment and management. Demographic and clinical data of 2185 CVD patients from 10 cycles of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey database from 1999 to 2018 were extracted for analysis.

Jiangsu Engineering Research Center of Cardiovascular Drugs Targeting Endothelial Cells, College of Health Sciences, School of Life Sciences, Jiangsu Normal University, Xuzhou 221000, Jiangsu Province, China.

In this editorial, we comment on the article ( 2024; 16: 1236-1247), which is a retrospective study of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) combined with multi-targeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) and programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) inhibitor for the treatment of unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Herein, we focus specifically on the mechanisms of this triple therapy, administration sequence and selection of each medication, and implications for future clinical trials. Based on the interaction mechanisms between medications, the triple therapy of TACE + TKI + PD-1 is proposed to complement the deficiency of each monotherapy, and achieve synergistic antitumor effects.
