Anterior cervical interbody fusion (ACDF) has become a classic surgical procedure for the treatment of cervical degenerative diseases, and various interbody cages are widely used in this procedure. We used 3D printing technology to produce a new type of plate-locking cage, anticipating to achieve high fusion rate with the high biomechanical stability. This study is to compare the biomechanical characteristics between a newly designed interbody cage and a conventional Zero-profile cage during ACDF using finite element analysis.

This study aimed to comprehensively examine the association of gallstones, cholecystectomy, and cancer risk. Multivariable logistic regressions were performed to estimate the observational associations of gallstones and cholecystectomy with cancer risk, using data from a nationwide cohort involving 239 799 participants. General and gender-specific two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was further conducted to assess the causalities of the observed associations.

Background: Salt-sensitive hypertension (SSH) is the most severe form of hypertension, and the presence of NLRP3 inflammasome plays a crucial role in its pathogenesis. Although MCC950 has shown therapeutic potential for hypertension and kidney injury, its mechanism of action remains unclear.
Methods: Dahl salt-sensitive (SS) rats and their salt-tolerant aptamer control SS-13 (BN) rats were randomly assigned to four groups: SS rats intraperitoneally administered physiological saline (SS + vehicle) or MCC950 (SS + MCC950), and BN rats intraperitoneally administered physiological saline (BN + vehicle) or MCC950 (BN + MCC950).

Objective: To compare the clinical effects of applying a 3D-printed ACT titanium trabecular intervertebral fusion cage and a Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) cage in posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF).
Methods: This was a clinical comparative study. Forty patients with degenerative lumbar diseases admitted at The Second People's Hospital of Dalian from January 2020 to December 2021 were selected and divided into an observation group (3D cage) and a control group (PEEK cage) using the random number table method, with each group of 20 cases.

In recent years, with the introduction of the concept of lumbar non-fusion, the interspinous device has emerged. The purpose of this study is to bibliometrically analyze the state, areas of interest, and emerging trends in the usage of interspinous devices for the treatment of lumbar degeneration disease, as well as related research fields. Between January 1, 2000 and June 14, 2023, a comprehensive collection of publications on the topic of interspinous devices in the treatment of lumbar degenerative disease (IDTLDD) was procured from the Web of Science.

Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze the biomechanical stability of a newly proposed surgical combination (minimally invasive surgery of screw-rod system for indirect decompression + interspinous fusion system for long term spinal stability) in treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases.
Methods: The three-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT) image data of an adult healthy male volunteer were selected. An intact model of L4/5 was further established and validated by using Mimic and 3-matic, 3D slicer, abaqus, Python.

Objective: The semaphorins are membrane or secreted proteins first identified in neural development. Semaphorin 4D (Sema4D) is the first family member found to have immune properties. We evaluated the potential of Sema4D as a marker for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) disease activity, singly and in combination with other known biomarkers including rheumatoid factor (RF) and C-reactive protein (CRP).

Background/objective: Nowadays, increasing clinical evidence on metabolic and weight-loss effects of bariatric surgery on improving cardiac structure in obese patients, but its application in improving the cardiac function of HF (heart failure) patients remains controversial. The objective of this meta-analysis was to assess the effects of BS on cardiac function by quantifying the changes of LVEF (left ventricular ejection fraction) and NYHA (New York Heart Association classification) after operations in non-HFpEF (heart failure and preserved ejection fraction) patients.
Methods: Articles were searched using PubMed and Embase from inception to December 9, 2022, and the Minors scale was used for quality assessments.

Background: Endometrial thickness (EMT) and blood flow are commonly used indicators of endometrial receptivity. However, the results of single ultrasound examination studies differ. Therefore, we used 3-dimensional (3D) ultrasound to study the influence of changes in EMT, endometrial volume, and endometrial blood flow on frozen embryo transfer cycles.

Metastasis is an obstacle to the clinical treatment of aggressive breast cancer (BC). Studies have shown that high mobility group A1 (HMGA1) is abnormally expressed in various cancers and mediates tumor proliferation and metastasis. Here, we provided more evidence that HMGA1 mediated epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) through the Wnt/β-catenin pathway in aggressive BC.

Objective: Carotid artery stenting (CAS) has become an alternative strategy to carotid endarterectomy for carotid artery stenosis. Residual stenosis was an independent risk factor for restenosis, with the latter affecting the long-term outcomes of CAS. This multicenter study aimed to evaluate the echogenicity of plaques and hemodynamic alteration by color duplex ultrasound (CDU) examination and investigate their effects on the residual stenosis after CAS.

Ferroptosis is different from other forms of cell death, such as apoptosis, autophagy, pyroptosis, and cuproptosis, mainly involving iron metabolism and lipid peroxidation. Ferroptosis plays an important role in various disease, such as malignant tumors, neuron-degenerative diseases, and cardiovascular diseases, and has become the focus of current research. Both iron overload and lipid peroxide accumulation contribute to the occurrence, development, and treatment of musculoskeletal diseases, such as osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, osteosarcoma, intervertebral disc degeneration, and spinal cord injury.

Accurate analysis of living circulating tumor cells (CTCs) plays a crucial role in cancer diagnosis and prognosis evaluation. However, it is still challenging to develop a facile method for accurate, sensitive, and broad-spectrum isolation of living CTCs. Herein, inspired by the filopodia-extending behavior and clustered surface-biomarker of living CTCs, we present a unique bait-trap chip to achieve accurate and ultrasensitive capture of living CTCs from peripheral blood.

Background: Pyroptosis, also known as inflammatory necrosis, is a programmed cell death that manifests itself as a continuous swelling of cells until the cell membrane breaks, leading to the liberation of cellular contents, which triggers an intense inflammatory response. Pyroptosis might be a panacea for a variety of cancers, which include immunotherapy and chemotherapy-insensitive tumors such as glioma. Several findings have observed that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) modulate the bio-behavior of tumor cells by binding to RNA, DNA and protein.

Drug fever is a febrile reaction that emerges temporarily with the administration of a drug or a variety of drugs and disappears after cessation of the targeting agent. There are a few previous reports about drug fever, but they pertain mainly to patients accompanied by no surgical intervention. Based on the literature reviewed, drug fever in patients after posterior cervical spine surgery has never been mentioned before; therefore, we present a 56-year-old man diagnosed with drug fever after posterior cervical spine surgery for traumatic cervical myelopathy.
