Common endocrine system adverse events associated with immune checkpoint inhibitors.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), a novel anti-tumor therapeutic modality, are monoclonal antibodies targeting certain immune checkpoints (ICs) that reactivate T cells to achieve anti-tumor immunity by targeting, binding, and blocking ICs. Targeted inhibitory antibodies against the ICs cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen and programmed death receptor-1 have demonstrated efficacy and durable anti-tumor activity in patients with cancer. ICs may prevent autoimmune reactions.

Infection associated with CDK4/6 inhibitors: a pharmacovigilance analysis of the FDA adverse event reporting system database.

Introduction: Cyclin-dependent kinase 4 and 6 (CDK4/6) inhibitors are first-line treatments for hormone receptor-positive/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative breast cancer. With their increasing clinical use, infection-related adverse events (AEs) associated with CDK4/6 inhibitors have been widely reported in recent years. This study aimed to analyze the occurrence of infections associated with the CDK4/6 inhibitors (palbociclib, ribociclib and abemaciclib) based on the real-world data from the US Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database.

Inhibition of the cGAS-STING pathway: contributing to the treatment of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.

The cGAS-STING pathway plays an important role in ischemia-reperfusion injury in the heart, liver, brain, and kidney, but its role and mechanisms in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury have not been systematically reviewed. Here, we outline the components of the cGAS-STING pathway and then analyze its role in autophagy, ferroptosis, cellular pyroptosis, disequilibrium of calcium homeostasis, inflammatory responses, disruption of the blood-brain barrier, microglia transformation, and complement system activation following cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. We further analyze the value of cGAS-STING pathway inhibitors in the treatment of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury and conclude that the pathway can regulate cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury through multiple mechanisms.

Comparative efficacy and safety of Chinese patent medicines of iron deficiency anemia during pregnancy: A network meta-analysis.

Background: Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is a prevalent nutritional disorder during pregnancy. Clinical studies indicate that incorporating Chinese patent medicines (CPMs) with oral iron (OI) in treating IDA in pregnancy can reduce adverse effects and improve clinical outcomes. Nonetheless, the comparative efficacy of different CPMs remains unclear.

Association of early-term birth and breastfeeding practices with nutritional outcomes in singleton term infants: a multicenter cross-sectional study.

Background: Limited research has explored the associations of gestational age (GA) and breastfeeding practices with growth and nutrition in term infants.

Methods: This multicenter cross-sectional study recruited 7299 singleton term infants from well-child visits in Shandong, China, between March 2021 and November 2022. Data on GA, gender, ethnicity, birth weight, parental heights, gestational diabetes and hypertension, age at visit, breastfeeding practices (point-in-time data at visit for infants < 6 months and retrospective data at 6 months for infants ≥ 6 months), complementary foods introduction, infant length and weight, were collected.

A deep understanding of the biological mechanisms of lung cancer offers more precise treatment options for patients. In our study, we integrated data from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) to investigate lung adenocarcinoma. Analyzing 538 lung cancer samples and 31 normal samples, we focused on 3076 autophagy-related genes.

Low molecular weight heparin promotes the PPAR pathway by protecting the glycocalyx of cells to delay the progression of diabetic nephropathy.

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the most important comorbidities for diabetic patients, which is the main factor leading to end-stage renal disease. Heparin analogs can delay the progression of DN, but the mechanism is not fully understood. In this study, we found that low molecular weight heparin therapy significantly upregulated some downstream proteins of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) signaling pathway by label-free quantification of the mouse kidney proteome.

Analysis of the Effect of Superselective Ophthalmic Artery Thrombolysis for Central Retinal Artery Occlusion.

Introduction: The aim of the study was to investigate the clinical efficacy of superselective ophthalmic artery thrombolysis for central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO).

Methods: Retrospective study of CRAO patients who attended the Department of Ophthalmology of Affiliated Hospital of Weifang Medical University from January 2022 to July 2023, 138 CRAO patients with onset time of 1-3 days were selected for the study. Among them, 86 patients refused thrombolytic treatment and chose to adopt traditional treatment, which was categorized as the control group; 52 patients adopted superselective ophthalmic artery thrombolytic treatment, which was categorized as the observation group.

Gut microbiota and postpartum depression: a Mendelian randomization study.

Background: Increasing evidence suggests a correlation between intestinal microbiota and the gut-brain axis; however, the causal relationship between gut microbiota and postpartum depression (PPD) remains unclear.

Methods: In this study, a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) design was employed to analyze the GWAS data of gut microorganisms from the Mibiogen database and PPD data from the UK biobank. Various statistical methods, including inverse variance weighted, MR-Egger, weighted median, weighted model, and MR-PRESSO, were utilized to investigate the causal relationship between gut microbiota and PPD.

Efficacy and Safety of Snap Needles in the Treatment of Postoperative Hemorrhoidal Pain: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Snap Needles (SN) in the management of Postoperative Hemorrhoidal Pain (POHP).

Patients And Methods: A systematic search was conducted in various databases, including EMBASE, Web of Science, PubMed, WanFang database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), and China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP), spanning from their inception to August 2023, to identify relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on SN for POHP. The primary outcome measure was the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), while secondary outcomes encompassed the Total Effective Rate (TER), Wound Healing Time (WHT), Pain Relief Time (PRT), Pain Disappearance Time (PDT), and Adverse Events (AEs).

Background: Digital radiography (DR) is a common and widely available examination. However, spinal DR cannot detect bone marrow edema, therefore, determining vertebral compression fractures (VCFs), especially fresh VCFs, remains challenging for clinicians.

Methods: We trained, validated, and externally tested the deep residual network (DRN) model that automated the detection and identification of fresh VCFs from spinal DR images.

Phyllodes tumors (PTs) has an increased risk of local relapse and distant metastases. Molecular features correlating to histologic grade and aggressive behavior of PTs are poorly characterized. Here, whole exome sequencing (WES) was performed to explore genetic mutations in 61 samples of fibroepithelial breast tumors, including 16 fibroadenomas (FAs), 18 benign PTs, 19 borderline PTs, and 8 malignant PTs.

The Chinese version of the Ohkuma questionnaire: reliability analysis and diagnostic value.

Background: While the Ohkuma questionnaire is a simple, reliable, and easy-to-use tool to assess dysphagia, none of its versions can be used by the Chinese population.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the internal consistency, reliability and clinical validity of a newly made Chinese version of the Ohkuma questionnaire, and to provide some objective basis for its application in screening dysphagia.

Materials And Methods: From September 21 to June 2022, 96 patients with dysphagia and 89 asymptomatic subjects were recruited from three hospitals in China to form an observation and a control group, respectively.

Endovascular treatment versus standard medical treatment in patients with established large infarct: a cohort study.

Background: Previous trials confirmed the benefit of endovascular treatment (EVT) in acute large core stroke, but the effect of EVT on outcomes in these patients based on noncontrast computed tomography (NCCT) in real-world clinical practice was unclear. The aim of this study was to explore the effect of EVT versus standard medical treatment (SMT) in patients with large ischemic core stroke defined as Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (ASPECTS) ≤5 based on NCCT alone.

Materials And Methods: Patients with acute large core stroke at 38 Chinese centers between November 2021 and February 2023 were reviewed from a prospectively maintained database.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic immune-related disease characterized by synovial inflammation and destruction of joint cartilage. This study aims to identify potential biomarkers in the synovium for diagnosing RA and to investigate their association with immune infiltration.
