Purpose: HIV-infected immunological non-responders (INRs) failed to achieve the normalization of CD4 T cell counts despite their undetectable viral load. INRs have an increased risk of clinical progressions of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and non-AIDS events, accompanied by higher mortality rates than immunological responders (IRs). This study aimed to discover the genes, which help to distinguish INRs from IRs and explore the possible mechanism of INRs.

Rationale: Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) complicated with cryptococcal meningitis (CM) are easy to be misdiagnosed as neuropsychiatric lupus or tuberculous meningitis due to the lack of specificity of clinical symptoms, which may delay treatment. Through this case, we considered early improvement of India ink stain of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and metagenomic next generation sequences to determine whether there is microbial infection, and gave the idea of empirical anti-infection therapy, so as to make early diagnosis and slow down the progression of the disease.
Patient Concerns: We report the case of a 40-year-old female with SLE for 10 years.

Introduction: Preeclampsia (PE) is an elusive life-threatening complication of pregnancy, and maternal endothelial dysfunction induced by components from the impaired placenta is a key hallmark of PE. Placenta-derived exosomes in maternal circulation have been correlated with risk of PE, however, the role of exosomes in PE remains to be determined. We hypothesized that placenta-released exosomes link the placental abnormalities with maternal endothelial dysfunction in PE.

BTB/POZ domain-containing protein 7 (BTBD7) has a relative molecular weight of 126KD and contains two conserved BTB/POZ protein sequences. BTBD7 has been shown to play an essential role in normal human development, precancerous lesions, heat-stress response, and tumor progression. BTBD7 promotes branching morphogenesis during development and participates in the salivary gland, lung, and tooth formation.

Atherosclerosis is a significant risk factor for coronary heart disease (CHD) and myocardial infarction (MI). Atherosclerosis develops during foam cell generation, which is caused by an imbalance in cholesterol uptake, esterification, and efflux. LOX-1, SR-A1, and CD36 all increased cholesterol uptake.

Diabetic kidney disease (DKD), a common cause of end-stage renal disease, is a serious complication that develops with the progression of chronic diabetes. Its main clinical manifestations are persistent proteinuria and/or a progressive decline in the estimated glomerular filtration rate. Podocytes, terminally differentiated glomerular visceral epithelial cells, constitute the glomerular filtration barrier together with the basement membrane and endothelial cells, and the structural and functional barrier integrity is closely related to proteinuria.

Metabolic disease is a complex disorder defined by a group with interrelated factors. There is growing evidence that obesity can lead to a variety of metabolic diseases, including diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Excessive adipose tissue (AT) deposition and ectopic accumulation can lead to increased peri-organ AT thickness.

Introduction: Tissue-resident stem cells (TRSCs) have the ability to self-renew and differentiate throughout an individual's lifespan, and they utilize both mechanisms to maintain homeostasis and regenerate damaged tissues. Several studies suggest that these stem cells can serve as a potential source for cell-replacement-based therapy by promoting differentiation or expansion. In recent years, low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) has been demonstrated to effectively stimulate stem cell proliferation and differentiation, promote tissue regeneration, and inhibit inflammatory responses.

Background: Anesthesia and surgery can induce perioperative neurocognitive disorders (PND). Mitochondrial dysfunction has been proposed to be one of the earliest triggering events in surgery-induced neuronal damage. Dexmedetomidine has been demonstrated to attenuate the impairment of cognition in aged rats induced by surgery in our previous study.

Aim: Targeted retinal photocoagulation (TRP) is an emerging laser technology for retinal targeted therapy. TRP can specifically act on unperfused retinal capillaries and retinal intermediate ischemic areas, reduce damage to tissue perfusion areas and panretinal photocoagulation (PRP) complications or adverse events. In this regard, this review discusses the treatment options, efficacy, and latest progress of TRP for diabetic retinopathy (DR) based on randomized controlled trial (RCT), meta-analysis, case review, and other existing studies.

Background: Uremic tumoral calcinosis (UTC) is a rare complication in hemodialysis patients, whose mechanism remains incompletely understood. We report two cases with UTC who experienced completely different patterns of regression following parathyroidectomy, although there were no significant differences in serum calcium levels, parathyroid hormone, or phosphorus production between the two patients.
Case Presentation: Case 1 had a substantial improvement in soft tissue calcification.

Study the repair effect of tilapia collagen on acute wounds, and the effect on the expression level of related genes and its metabolic direction in the repair process. After the full-thickness skin defect model was constructed in standard deviation rats, the wound healing effect was observed and evaluated by means of characterization, histology, and immunohistochemistry. RT-PCR, fluorescence tracer, frozen section and other techniques were used to observe the effect of fish collagen on the expression of related genes and its metabolic direction in the process of wound repair.

Background: Stroke is one of the most severe diseases worldwide, resulting in physical and mental problems. Dl-3-n-butylphthalide, a compound derived from celery seed, has been approved for treating ischemic stroke in China. No study has evaluated how Dl-3-n-butylphthalide affects the ferroptosis SLC7A11/GSH/GPX4 signal pathway and blood-brain barrier (BBB) PDGFRβ/PI3K/Akt signal pathways in the rat middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion (MCAO/R) model of ischemic stroke.

Current anti-angiogenic therapies have changed the paradigm of treating colorectal cancer (CRC) patients with advanced diseases. However, the clinical response rate is still low at less than 10% due largely to complex angiogenic factors released by tumor cells. Exploring novel mechanisms of tumor angiogenesis and identifying alternative targets for combination therapies are therefore essential to effective inhibition of tumor vascularization and CRC development.

Approximately 15-20% of breast carcinomas exhibit human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER2) protein overexpression. HER2-positive breast cancer (BC) is a heterogeneous and aggressive subtype with poor prognosis and high relapse risk. Although several anti-HER2 drugs have achieved substantial efficacy, certain patients with HER2-positive BC relapse due to drug resistance after a treatment period.

Decalcified bone matrix has great potential and application prospects in the repair of bone defects due to its good biocompatibility and osteogenic activity. In order to verify whether fish decalcified bone matrix (FDBM) has similar structure and efficacy, this study used the principle of HCl decalcification to prepare the FDBM by using fresh halibut bone as the raw material, and then degreasing, decalcifying, dehydrating and freeze-drying it. Its physicochemical properties were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and other methods, and then its biocompatibility was tested by and experiments.
