This multicenter retrospective study aimed to develop a novel prognostic system for extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTL) patients in the era of pegaspargase/L-asparaginase. A total of 844 newly diagnosed ENKTL patients were included. Multivariable analysis confirmed that Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status, lactate dehydrogenase, Chinese Southwest Oncology Group and Asia Lymphoma Study Group ENKTL (CA) system, and albumin were independent prognostic factors.

Background: Diabetes-associated cognitive impairment (DACI) poses a significant challenge to the self-management of diabetes, markedly elevating the risk of adverse complications. A burgeoning body of evidence implicates microglia as a central player in the pathogenesis of DACI.

Methods: We utilized proteomics to identify potential biomarkers in high glucose (HG)-treated microglia, followed by gene knockdown techniques for mechanistic validation in vitro and in vivo.

Article Synopsis
  • There has been an increase in pregnancies complicated by gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), linked to glucose intolerance during pregnancy.
  • Analysis of placental tissue from these pregnancies shows that GDM placentas are larger and heavier, suggesting changes in cell growth and death processes.
  • RNA sequencing identified 935 genes increased and 256 decreased in GDM placentas, with findings indicating the involvement of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway in GDM development, particularly through the regulation of certain matrix metalloproteinases and alternative splicing patterns.

Article Synopsis
  • Thirty new protoberberine derivatives were synthesized to test their effectiveness against Helicobacter pylori, focusing on a compound called 2,3,10-trimethoxy-9-p-methylbenzylaminoprotopalmatine chloride as the lead.
  • The most promising derivative, 7c, showed strong anti-bacterial activity against both metronidazole-resistant and susceptible strains, with minimal toxicity and stability in testing conditions.
  • The compound 7c is believed to work by targeting HP urease and affecting bacterial membrane permeability, making it a valuable candidate for further development as a treatment for H. pylori infections.

December 2024

Reproductive Medicine Center, Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital, School of Medicine, Tongji University, Shanghai, China.

Purpose: The biallelic variant of has previously been documented in conjunction with the autosomal recessive cerebellar, ocular, craniofacial, and genital syndrome (COFG). The purpose of this study was to investigate the gene-disease association of and the newly discovered autosomal dominant (AD) microphthalmia.

Methods: We report the presence of an exceptionally rare missense variant in a single allele of the Arg51 codon of among four individuals from a single family diagnosed with microphthalmia, which suggesting an autosomal dominant inheritance pattern.

Studies investigating the relationship between dietary vitamin B1 intake and risk of Hyperuricemia (HU) are scarce, the present study aimed to examine the association of dietary vitamin B1 intake and HU among adults. This cross-sectional study included 5750 adults whose data derived from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from March 2017 to March 2020. The dietary intake of vitamin B1 was assessed using 24-h dietary recall interviews.

Osteocytes are terminally differentiated cells derived from osteoblasts and are deeply embedded within the bone matrix. They play a critical role in bone remodeling by generating a lacuno-canalicular network (LCN) and controlling the transport of nutrients. Due to the absence of blood vessels within the bone matrix, it is widely believed that osteocytes develop in a hypoxic environment.

The early diagnosis of neonatal sepsis is crucial as it remains a prevalent cause of neonatal mortality. In this study, we conducted an analysis on the clinical data and detection indicators of 22 cases with sepsis and 62 cases without sepsis among neonates. Our findings indicate that the clinical signs observed in neonates with sepsis lack specificity.

Article Synopsis
  • Helicobacter pylori is a major carcinogenic pathogen linked to stomach cancer, known for its high prevalence and resistance, making treatment challenging.
  • Researchers used a graph neural network model to identify a promising new compound, a berberine derivative named 8, which effectively inhibits both drug-susceptible and resistant H. pylori strains.
  • The compound 8 shows strong gastric retention and performs comparably to standard triple therapies without affecting intestinal bacteria, positioning it as a potential novel treatment for resistant H. pylori infections.

Center for Rehabilitation Medicine, Department of Neurology, Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital (Affiliated People's Hospital, Hangzhou Medical College), Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. Electronic address:

Background: Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), an acquired immune-mediated autoimmune disorder affecting the peripheral nervous system (PNS), is associated with autoimmunity. The presence of autoantibodies in the blood is an important feature of autoimmune diseases. Herein, we explored the distribution characteristics of the antinuclear antibodies (ANAs) in GBS and the correlation between ANAs and disease severity.

Acquired undescended testes were once considered a sporadic disease. In recent years, reports suggest that they are not uncommon, with an incidence rate about 3 times that of congenital undescended testes. The etiology of acquired undescended testes remains inconclusive, clinical diagnostic standards are unclear, and treatment approaches are still controversial.

A prognostic model for anoikis-related genes in pancreatic cancer.

Sci Rep

July 2024

Department of Hepatological Surgery, The Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University, No.23 Pingjiang Road, Hexi District, Tianjin, 300211, People's Republic of China.

Anoikis, a distinct form of programmed cell death, is crucial for both organismal development and maintaining tissue equilibrium. Its role extends to the proliferation and progression of cancer cells. This study aimed to establish an anoikis-related prognostic model to predict the prognosis of pancreatic cancer (PC) patients.
