Background: Increasing evidence has highlighted the involvement of the imbalance of long non-coding RNAs in the development of gastric cancer (GC), which is one of the most common malignancies in the world. This study aimed to determine the role of lncRNA WT1-AS in the progression of GC and explore its underlying mechanism.

Methods: The expression of lncRNA WT1-AS in gastric cancer tissues was detected using RT-qPCR.

Sappanone A (SAP), a high-isoflavone compound derived from the traditional Chinese medicine Sumu, exhibits various pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects. However, its protective effects on the liver have rarely been reported. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of SAP on immune-mediated liver injury induced by concanavalin A (Con A) in mice and to explore the underlying molecular mechanisms.

JAK inhibitors in immune regulation and treatment of vitiligo.

Cytokine Growth Factor Rev

December 2024

Department of Dermatology, Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University, Shenyang, China; Department of Dermatology, The First Hospital of China Medical University, Shenyang, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • - Vitiligo is a skin disorder characterized by loss of pigmentation, affecting both the appearance and mental well-being of those affected, as it involves a decrease in functioning melanocytes which produce skin color.
  • - Treatment options for vitiligo include glucocorticoids, immunosuppressants, phototherapy, and surgical methods, but recent studies highlight the role of Janus kinase (JAK) hyperactivation and pro-inflammatory cytokines in escalating the condition by harming melanocytes.
  • - New research shows that JAK inhibitors can effectively counteract the negative effects of these signaling pathways, leading to potential repigmentation of the skin, and this review discusses their mechanisms and applications for improving vitiligo treatments.

Objective: To provide updated evidence on the risk factors and accurately quantify the effect size of the risk factors associated with post-intensive care syndrome (PICS), encompassing cognitive, mental, physical and socio-economic domains.

Research Methodology: We conducted a systematic review of literature from January 2010 to October 2023. The meta-analysis was conducted to calculate an effect size for every risk factor, and odds ratio and 95% confidence intervals were used as summary statistics.

A longitudinal network of psychotic-like experiences, depressive and anxiety symptoms, and adverse life events: a cohort study of 3,358 college students.

Epidemiol Psychiatr Sci

November 2024

Department of Social Psychiatry, the Affiliated Brain Hospital, Guangzhou Medical University, Key Laboratory of Neurogenetics and Channelopathies of Guangdong Province and the Ministry of Education of China, Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, China.

Aims: Psychotic-like experiences (PLEs), especially for persistent PLEs, are highly predictive of subsequent mental health problems. Hence, it is crucial to explore the psychopathological associations underlying the occurrence and persistence of PLEs. This study aimed to explore the above issues through a longitudinal dynamic network approach among PLEs and psychological and psychosocial factors.

Background: The surgical procedure of vertebral column decancellation (VCD) has been increasingly performed in orthopaedic surgery for those with spinal deformity. To investigate the results of single-segment VCD performed at different vertebra for correcting thoracolumbar kyphosis in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and to guide the osteotomy strategy.

Methods: Eighty-six AS patients (77 males, 9 females) having thoracolumbar kyphosis underwent single-segment VCD (ranging from T12 to L3) between January 2016 and September 2019 were enrolled and divided into four groups according to the osteotomy vertebra: T12 in 9 cases (Group A), L1 in 15 cases (Group B), L2 in 47 cases (Group C), and L3 in 15 cases (Group D).

Background: Both intestinal and pulmonary systems are parts of the mucosal immune system, comprising ∼80% of all immune cells. These immune cells migrate or are transported between various mucosal tissues to maintain tissue homeostasis.

Methods: In this study, we isolated neutrophils from the peripheral blood of patients and utilized immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, and Western blotting to confirm the incidence of "nucleus-directed degranulation" .

Objective: To assess the impact of web-based dyadic interventions on depression, distress, stress, and quality of life among persons with cancer and their informal caregivers.

Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, EMBASE, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, the Cochrane Library, CNKI, and Wanfang Data for articles in English or Chinese through August 2023. The methodological quality of the studies was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool and the Methodological Index for Nonrandomized Studies.

Background: Gastric cancer, a prevalent and life-threatening malignancy, is believed to involve cancer stem cells (CSCs) as a contributing factor to tumor progression. Insulin gene enhancer binding protein-1 (ISL1) is a transcription factor, and it has not been elucidated how ISL1 regulates gastric carcinogenesis. The aim of this paper is to investigate the role of ISL1 in gastric cancer development.

Though several anti-PD-1/PD-L1 antibodies approved for monotherapy in microsatellite instability-high or mismatch repair-deficient unresectable/metastatic solid tumors, novel immunotherapy with better anti-tumor activity is needed in clinic. In this single-arm, multicenter, pivotal, phase II study, patients received iparomlimab (a novel humanized anti-PD-1 mAb, 200 mg or 3 mg/kg for patients with body weight < 40 kg, IV, Q3W) until disease progression, intolerable toxicities, withdrawal of consent, death, or up to 2 years. The primary endpoint was objective response rate (ORR) assessed by independent radiological review committee (IRRC).

Introduction: This study aims to evaluate the likelihood of developing a second primary ovarian cancer (OC) considering factors including age, race, and the types of initial malignancies encountered.

Methods: This study employed a retrospective cohort approach, compiling data on individuals diagnosed with OC from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program databases spanning the years 1975-2019. The analysis used standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) to determine the likelihood of developing OC.

December 2024

Department of Laboratory Medicine, Affiliated Hospital of Jining Medical University, Jining Medical University, Jining, Shandong 272000, China. Electronic address:

Metabolite-protein interactions have not been systematically studied due to a lack of effective techniques. Here, we present a protocol for identifying small-molecule metabolite ligands interacting with proteins. We describe steps for mixing the sample with antibodies for immunoprecipitation and applying organic solvent to extract small-molecule metabolites.

Epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma (EMC) is a rare low-grade malignant tumor with uncommon regional lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis. The diagnosis of this disease primarily relies on the examination of pathological morphology and immunohistochemical staining, as its clinical symptoms and imaging findings are non-specific. This makes it more difficult to provide specific information about EMC lung metastasis.
