Conducting polymer polypyrrole (PPy) possesses good biocompatibility and conductivity and has been used as functional coatings in bone tissue regeneration. In this study, a cholic acid doped PPy nanowires (PPy NWs) coating was electrochemically polymerized on the surface of titanium (Ti). The porous intertwined PPy NWs coating exhibited excellent electrical conductivity and electrochemical activity, better hydrophilicity and higher surface energy.

This study aimed to characterize the interhemispheric functionally and structurally coupled modifications in the brains of adult HA immigrants.
Methods: We performed resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in 16 adults who had immigrated to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (2300-4400 m) for 2 years and in 16 age-matched sea-level (SL) controls.

Scaffolds made by biomaterials offer favorite environment for cell grow and show a wide potential application in tissue engineering. Novel biocompatibility materials polylatic acid (PLA) nanofiber membranes with favorable biocompatibility and good mechanical strength could serve as an innovative tissue engineering scaffold. Sodium alginate (SA) could be used in biomedical areas because of its anti-bacterial property, hydrophilicity and biocompatibility.

Objective: To investigate the polarization effect of Malibatol A on oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD)-BV-2 cells, and the possible molecular mechanism involved in c-Abl-MST signaling pathway.
Method: The OGD BV-2 cell model was established. BV-2 cells were exposed to OGD for 8 h followed by reperfusion for 15 h with Malibatol A at different concentration of 0.

In the present study, we aimed to investigate the relationship of plasma matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and hematoma expansion (HE) in acute hypertensive cerebral hemorrhage (AHCH) (HE-in-AHCH). Patients with hypertensive cerebral hemorrhage, confirmed by head computed tomography (CT) within 12 h of onset, were prospectively collected. Venous blood was sampled within 4 h of the confirmation to determine the serum MMP-9 concentration.

Background: Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) gene has been reported to be associated with migraine and tension-type headache (TTH), but the results are conflicting. This study aimed to evaluate the association of ApoE with migraine by a meta-analysis.
Methods: MEDLINE, ISI Web of Knowledge, The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and EMBASE databases were searched to identify eligible studies published in English from 2000 to 2014.

Objective: In order to evaluate the distribution of genetic subtypes and epidemiological feature of HIV-1 circulating strains in Fujian province.
Methods: Blood samples and epidemiological data were collected from 104 newly infected patients who were distinguished by BED-CEIA methodology, during 2011-2012. Viral sequences(n = 81) of HIV-1 gag, env, and pol segments were amplified by nested PCR.

Background & Aims: The alterations of histone modification may serve as a promising diagnostic biomarker of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but the clinical and mechanistic relatedness of the histone H3 lysine 27 and 4 trimethylation (H3K27me3 and H3K4me3) in HCC remains poorly understood. Here we propose that the combination of H3K27me3 and H3K4me3 is a more precise predictive/prognostic value for outcome of HCC patients.
Methods: We used chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assays and a ChIP-on-chip screen to analyse HCC.

Plaque-reduction assays have been used to detect varicella-zoster virus (VZV)-neutralizing antibodies in sera for many decades. The current study characterized the mouse monoclonal antibody (MAb) 18A10, specific for VZV envelope glycoprotein K (gK), and applied this antibody to a new type of neutralization assay in the VZV field. The procedure is called the neutralization enzyme-linked immunosorbent spot (N-ELISPOT) assay and evolved from the VZV immunoperoxidase focus assay.

Aim: As the major atheroprotective particle in plasma, high-density lipoprotein(HDL) is oxidized during atherosclerotic processes. Oxidized HDL(ox-HDL) may lose its cardioprotective properties and develop a proinflammatory and proatherogenic phenotype. The proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells(VSMCs) play a crucial role in atherogenesis.

Type II interleukin-1 receptor (IL-1RII) is a non-signaling decoy receptor that blocks the activity of interleukin-1 (IL-1), a pro-inflammatory cytokine involved in experimental autoimmune myocarditis (EAM). The aim of this study was to examine the effects of hydrodynamics-based delivery of a recombinant plasmid encoding IL-1RII-Ig and to elucidate the role of IL-1RII in EAM rats. Rats were immunized on day 0 and injected with a recombinant plasmid encoding IL-1RII-Ig or pCAGGS-SP-Ig (control plasmid) on day 6.

Optimization of islet transplantation protocols is necessary for improved success of treatment for type 1 diabetes. Here, we investigated whether the size of islets transplanted into the portal vein (PV) of the liver can affect engraftment in the early post-transplantation in an experimental mouse model. Small (average diameter < 250 μm, group A) or large (average diameter > 250 μm, group B) islets (400 islet equivalents/recipient) purified from normal BALB/c mice were transplanted into syngenic recipients with diabetes induced by STZ.

Aim: To investigate the diverse characteristics of different pathological gradings of gastric adenocarcinoma (GA) using tumor-related genes.
Methods: GA tissues in different pathological gradings and normal tissues were subjected to tissue arrays. Expressions of 15 major tumor-related genes were detected by RNA in situ hybridization along with 3' terminal digoxin-labeled anti-sense single stranded oligonucleotide and locked nucleic acid modifying probe within the tissue array.
