Background: Physical frailty and cognitive aging have important influences on poor clinical outcomes in older adults. Many studies have investigated the association between frailty and cognitive function, but whether vitamin D mediates the association between frailty and cognitive function is unclear. We explored the mediating role of vitamin D on the cross-sectional association between physical frailty and cognitive function using data from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS).

ATP-sensitive K (K) channel couples membrane excitability to intracellular energy metabolism. Maintaining K channel surface expression is key to normal insulin secretion, blood pressure and cardioprotection. However, the molecular mechanisms regulating K channel internalization and endocytic recycling, which directly affect the surface expression of K channels, are poorly understood.

To investigate the effects of non-muscle myosin Ⅱ () gene silenced bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) on pulmonary extracellular matrix (ECM) and fibrosis in rats with acute lung injury (ALI) induced by endotoxin/lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The experimental research methods were adopted. Cells from femur and tibial bone marrow cavity of four one-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats were identified as BMMSCs by flow cytometry, and the third passage of BMMSCs were used in the following experiments.

The sphingosine kinase inhibitor SKI-V suppresses cervical cancer cell growth.

Int J Biol Sci

May 2022

Department of Radiotherapy & Oncology, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, Institute of Radiation Oncology, Soochow University, Suzhou, China.

Overexpression and/or overactivation of sphingosine kinase 1/2 (SphK1/2) is important for tumorigenesis and progression of cervical cancer. The current study examined the potential activity and signaling mechanisms of SKI-V, a non-lipid small molecule SphK inhibitor, against cervical cancer cells. In different primary and immortalized cervical cancer cells, SKI-V exerted significant anti-cancer activity by inhibiting cell viability, colony formation, proliferation, cell cycle progression and cell migration.

State Key Laboratory of Bioelectronics, Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Zhongda Hospital, School of Life Sciences and Technology, Advanced Institute for Life and Health, Jiangsu Province High-Tech Key Laboratory for Bio-Medical Research, Southeast University, Nanjing, China.

Aminoglycoside antibiotics are widely used for the treatment of serious acute infections, life-threatening sepsis, and , but all aminoglycosides cause side effects, especially irreversible ototoxicity. The mechanisms underlying the ototoxicity of aminoglycosides need further investigation, and there are no effective drugs in the clinic. Here we showed that tetrandrine (TET), a bioactive bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid derived from , ameliorated neomycin-induced cochlear hair cell injury.

Atherosclerosis (AS) is a chronic and progressive inflammatory disease. Ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2G 2 (UBE2G2) has been reported to be differentially expressed in subjects with abnormal coronary endothelial function. We intended to further explore the effect of UBE2G2 in AS using apolipoprotein E-deficient (ApoE) mice.

Ubiquitination is a type of posttranslational modification that regulates not only the stability but also the localization and function of a substrate protein. The ubiquitination process occurs intracellularly in eukaryotes and regulates almost all basic cellular biological processes. Purification of ubiquitinated proteins aids the investigation of the role of ubiquitination in controlling the function of substrate proteins.

J Cell Physiol

July 2022

Department of Orthopaedics, The First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, Orthopedic Institute, Soochow University, Suzhou, China.

Neural precursor cells (NPCs) generate new neurons to supplement neuronal loss as well as to repair damaged neural circuits. Therefore, NPCs have potential applications in a variety of neurological diseases, such as spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and glaucoma. Specifically, improving NPCs proliferation and manipulating their differentiated cell types can be a beneficial therapy for a variety of these diseases.

Targeting GATA1 and p2x7r Locus Binding in Spinal Astrocytes Suppresses Chronic Visceral Pain by Promoting DNA Demethylation.

Neurosci Bull

April 2022

Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Neuropsychiatric Diseases, Institute of Neuroscience, Soochow University, Suzhou, 215123, China.

Irritable bowel syndrome is a gastrointestinal disorder of unknown etiology characterized by widespread, chronic abdominal pain associated with altered bowel movements. Increasing amounts of evidence indicate that injury and inflammation during the neonatal period have long-term effects on tissue structure and function in the adult that may predispose to gastrointestinal diseases. In this study we aimed to investigate how the epigenetic regulation of DNA demethylation of the p2x7r locus guided by the transcription factor GATA binding protein 1 (GATA1) in spinal astrocytes affects chronic visceral pain in adult rats with neonatal colonic inflammation (NCI).
