Background: The function of Chromobox 4 (CBX4) function has attracted attention in many cancer types due to its unique biological role; however, its mechanism in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) under radiotherapeutic treatment has not yet been investigated.

Methods: Silencing of CBX4 was carried out in TE-13 and KYSE-150 cell lines. Cell proliferation, radiosensitivity, DNA damage, apoptosis, and cell cycle distribution were determined by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), colony formation assay, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, and immunoblot .

Association between neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and polycystic ovary syndrome: A PRISMA-compliant systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has been suggested to be a potential biomarker for assessing the systemic inflammatory response in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This meta-analysis is aimed at evaluating whether PCOS patients present with a higher NLR and whether obesity, metabolic, and hormonal indices have effects on the states.

Mean platelet volume and polycystic ovary syndrome: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objective: This meta-analysis evaluated the association between the mean platelet volume (MPV) and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Methods: A systematic literature search using PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases until June 2021 was conducted. Pooled standardized mean differences (SMD) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were determined using a random effects model.

Efficacy of Remdesivir for COVID-19.

Remdesivir is a broad-spectrum antiviral agent. With the rapid spread of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) globally, remdesivir is taking the spotlight for COVID-19 treatment. Despite the promising signs of anti-CoV activity in several preclinical and clinical studies, more data of remdesivir in the treatment of COVID-19 is still needed for evaluating its efficacy.

Cancer of Pharyngoesophageal Junction: A Different Subtype From Hypopharyngeal and Cervical Esophageal Cancer?

Background: Squamous cell cancers in the hypopharynx (HP) and cervical esophagus (CE) are different diseases with different staging systems and treatment approaches. Pharyngoesophageal junction (PEJ) tumor involves both the hypopharynx and the cervical esophagus simultaneously, but few reports focused on PEJ tumors. This study aimed to clarify clinical characteristics and the treatment approaches of PEJ tumors.

Preclinical Assessment of Paclitaxel- and Trastuzumab-Delivering Magnetic Nanoparticles FeO for Treatment and Imaging of HER2-Positive Breast Cancer.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the anticancer activity and the potential imaging use of the innovative combination of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs)-FeO, paclitaxel (PTX), and trastuzumab (Herceptin) in HER2-positive breast cancer. MNPs-FeO was synthesized and underwent water phase transfer and hydrophobic molecular loading, and its surface was then coupled with Herceptin mono-antibody. The morphological characteristics of MNPs-FeO were observed under transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

[Significance of monitoring pulmonary arterial pressure and cardiac function in neonates with pulmonary or extra-pulmonary acute respiratory distress syndrome].

Objective: To evaluate the dynamic changes of pulmonary arterial pressure (PAP) and cardiac function in neonates with pulmonary or extra-pulmonary acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDSp/ARDSexp).

Methods: An observational study was conducted. A total of 128 neonates with ARDS admitted to neonatology department of the Affiliated Yancheng Hospital of Southeast University Medical College from January 2016 to December 2020 were enrolled, with 67 neonates in ARDSp group and 61 neonates in ARDSexp group.

Purpose: Due to the lack of early-stage detection, pancreatic cancer (PC) remains a devastating disease worldwide. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is associated with tumorigenesis and cancer progression. This study aims to analyze the diagnostic improvements in serum LDH levels combined with other common tumor biomarkers, including carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), for monitoring PC.

Risk factors for brain metastases in patients with non-small cell lung cancer: a meta-analysis of 43 studies.

Background: Lung cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. The purpose of our meta-analysis was to assess the risk factors for brain metastases (BM) in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Methods: Multiple databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wanfang, were systematically searched to recruit relevant studies investigating the risk factors for BM in NSCLC patients.

The role of macrophages in pulmonary hypertension: Pathogenesis and targeting.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a pathophysiological disorder that can complicate most cardiovascular and respiratory diseases and may involve multiple clinical conditions, but its pathogenesis is poorly understood. Despite recent developments in the management of PH, there is an urgent need for new ways to effectively treat PH and reduce the risk of further complications. Recent studies have shown that dysregulated immunity underlies the development of PH.

Recent studies have revealed that cancer patients had a higher risk of having coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), compared to patients without cancer. The expression of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), the receptor of SARS-CoV-2, was aberrantly expressed in many tumors. In this study, by exploring the TCGA and GTEx public databases, we investigated ACE2 expression and its association with prognosis in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the most susceptible caner type.

We report the clinical features of novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection in a family setting of 13 people with person-to-person transmission in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province, China.

Recent classification and grading of LUAD has postulated that LUAD does not arise spontaneously, but through a stepwise process from lung adenomatous premalignancy atypical adenomatous hyperplasia to adenocarcinoma in situ, minimally invasive adenocarcinoma, and eventually frankly invasive predominant adenocarcinoma.

Objective: Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) is widely used as an adjunctive treatment for ischemic stroke. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of GBE specifically for long-term users at the convalescence stage of ischemic stroke.
