Although the neuroprotective effects of Rac1 inhibition have been reported in various cerebral ischemic models, the molecular mechanisms of action have not yet been fully elucidated. In this study, we investigated whether the inhibition of Rac1 provided neuroprotection in a diabetic rat model of focal cerebral ischemia and hyperglycemia-exposed PC-12 cells. Intracerebroventricular administration of lentivirus expressing the Rac1 small hairpin RNA (shRNA) and specific Rac1 inhibitor NSC23766 not only decreased the infarct volumes and improved neurologic deficits with a correlated significant activation of mitochondrial DNA specific proteins, such as OGG1 and POLG, but also elevated Bcl-2 S70 phosphorylation in mitochondria.

Background: Recently, many institutions have investigated the associations of interleukin-17 (IL17) polymorphisms with tuberculosis (TB) susceptibility, while those results are inconsistent. The purpose of this meta-analysis is to comprehensively assess whether IL17A rs22275913, IL17F rs763780, and IL17A rs3748067 polymorphisms are correlated with TB risk.
Methods: Electronic bibliographic databases were searched for case-control studies which potentially focused on the relationship between the aforementioned polymorphisms and TB risk on October 15th, 2015.

Background And Purpose: Post-conditioning with volatile anesthetics can create ischemic tolerance against cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. The present study was designed to determine whether delayed exposure to sevoflurane could induce ischemic tolerance and if this effect was dependent on increasing phosphorylated Akt-Ser473 and GSK-3β-Ser9 expression in the mitochondria, via a mechanism involving the PI3K/Akt pathway.
Methods: Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to focal cerebral ischemia.

Aim: The objective of this study is to characterize differential proteomic expression among well-differentiation and poor-differentiation colorectal carcinoma tissues and normal mucous epithelium.
Materials And Methods: The study is based on quantitative 2-dimensional gel electrophoresis and analyzed by PDquest.
Results: Excluding redundancies due to proteolysis and posttranslational modified isoforms of over 600 protein spots, 11 proteins were revealed as regulated with statistical variance being within the 95th confidence level and were identified by peptide mass fingerprinting in matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry.
