Background And Purpose: In the context of the widespread availability of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and aggressive salvage irradiation techniques, there has been controversy surrounding the use of prophylactic cranial irradiation (PCI) for small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients. This study aimed to explore whether regular brain MRI plus salvage brain irradiation (SBI) is not inferior to PCI in patients with limited-stage SCLC (LS-SCLC).
Methods: This real-world multicenter study, which was conducted between January 2014 and September 2020 at three general hospitals, involved patients with LS-SCLC who had a good response to initial chemoradiotherapy and no brain metastasis confirmed by MRI.

Key Points: Common kidney stones are unlikely to be an independent and direct cause of CKD in the general population. CKD may protect against kidney stones because of changes in key urinary factors critical for stone formation.
Background: Kidney stones and CKD are common disorders with a substantial interaction.

Objective: White matter hyperintensity (WMH) in patients with cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is strongly associated with cognitive impairment. However, the severity of WMH does not coincide fully with cognitive impairment. This study aims to explore the differences in the dynamic functional network connectivity (dFNC) of WMH with cognitively matched and mismatched patients, to better understand the underlying mechanisms from a quantitative perspective.

Background: Despite the known association between chronic inflammation and reduced muscle mass, there is a gap in research regarding the association between the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and sarcopenic obesity (SO). This study aims to assess the relationship between SII and SO in middle-aged and elderly adults and the mediating role of triglyceride-glucose index (TyG).
Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 2,719 participants aged 45-90 years who underwent health check-ups.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most common cardiac arrhythmias, with its diagnosis being closely tied to higher rates of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. AF is associated with a range of dangerous complications including stroke and heart failure, making it a key driver of healthcare spending and a major threat to global public health. The precise mechanisms that govern AF incidence and the onset of related complications, however, remain uncertain.

ARHGAP family genes are often used as glioma oncogenic factors, and their mechanism of action remains unexplained. Our research entailed a thorough examination of the immune microenvironment and enrichment pathways across various glioma subtypes. A distinctive 6-gene signature was developed employing the CGGA cohort, leading to insights into the disparities in clinical characteristics, mutation patterns, and immune cell infiltration among distinct risk categories.

Background: Levosimendan (Levo) is a drug commonly used to treat heart failure. Recent studies have suggested that Levo may have neuroprotective effects, but it is still unknown how exactly it contributes to hypoxia-induced brain damage. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate how Levo affects hypoxia-induced brain damage and to clarify any possible underlying mechanisms.

(AFI) and (MOC) have been used to treat constipation in China for thousands of years. In this study, a mouse model of slow transit constipation (STC) was established by gavage of loperamide at a dose of 10 mg/kg bw/day for seven days. Seventy-two mice were randomly allocated to six groups (control, STC model, 3 g/kg AFI + MOC, 6 g/kg AFI + MOC, 12 g/kg AFI + MOC, and mosapride).

Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) is one of the most important cytokines associated with pulmonary vascular remodeling in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). PDGF receptor (PDGFR) inhibition exerted therapeutic effects on PAH in clinical trials, but serious side effects warrant the withdrawal of existing drugs. In this study, a novel highly selective PDGFR inhibitor WQ-C-401 was developed, and its effects on PDGFR signaling pathway and pulmonary vascular remodeling in PAH were investigated.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths. With the development of screening, patient selection and treatment strategies, patients' survival outcomes and living quality significantly improved. However, some patients still have local recurrence or residual tumors after receiving definitive therapies.

The aim of this work was to identify the regulatory function of hsa_circ_0004776 in the progression of diabetic retinopathy (DR). The direct interactions between hsa_circ_0004776 and hsa-miR-382-5p and between hsa-miR-382-5p and , were confirmed dual-luciferase reporter assays. Quantitative Real-Time PCR analysis indicated that hsa_circ_0004776 was highly expressed in aqueous humour samples of DR patients and human retinal microvascular epithelial cells (hRECs) under a high-glucose environment, whereas hsa-miR-382-5p showed the opposite trend.

Introduction: Surgical site infections (SSIs) are significant postoperative risks; antibiotic prophylaxis is crucial due to the presence of anaerobic bacteria. This study investigated the efficacy and safety of a novel nitroimidazole, morinidazole, in SSI reduction in class III wounds, as there is currently a lack of evidence in the existing literature.
Methods: A multi-centre randomized clinical trial was conducted from December 2020 to October 2022 in the general surgery departments of 12 tertiary hospitals in China, including 459 patients in two treatment groups using morinidazole plus ceftriaxone or ceftriaxone alone.

The neuropathological mechanism underlying presbycusis remains unclear. This study aimed to illustrate the mechanism of neurovascular coupling associated with cognitive impairment in patients with presbycusis. We assessed the coupling of cerebral blood perfusion with spontaneous neuronal activity by calculating the correlation coefficients between cerebral blood flow and blood oxygen level-dependent-derived quantitative maps (amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation, fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation, regional homogeneity, degree centrality).

A cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury is ensued by an intricate interplay between various pathological processes including excitotoxicity, oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis. For a long time, drug intervention policies targeting a single signaling pathway have failed to achieve the anticipated clinical efficacy in the intricate and dynamic inflammatory environment of the brain. Moreover, inadequate targeted drug delivery remains a significant challenge in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury therapy.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is considered to be associated with aging. Both ER stress and the unfolded protein response (UPR) have been associated with pulmonary fibrosis via key mechanisms including AEC apoptosis, EMT, altered myofibroblast differentiation, and M2 macrophage polarization. A relationship between ER stress and aging has also been demonstrated in vitro, with increased p16 and p21 levels seen in lung epithelial cells of older IPF patients.

Cigarette smoke (CS), an indoor environmental pollutant, is a prominent risk factor for emphysema, which is a pathological feature of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Emerging function of circRNAs in immune responses and disease progression shed new light to explore the pathogenesis of emphysema. In this research, we demonstrated, by single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNAseq), that the ratio of M2 macrophages were increased in lung tissues of humans and mice with smoking-related emphysema.

The importance of autophagy in atherosclerosis has garnered significant attention regarding the potential applications of autophagy inducers. However, the impact of TAT-Beclin1, a peptide inducer of autophagy, on the development of atherosclerotic plaques remains unclear. Single-cell omics analysis indicates a notable reduction in GAPR1 levels within fibroblasts, stromal cells, and macrophages during atherosclerosis.

Background: Polymorphisms in susceptibility genes are a major risk factor for the development of asthma. Understanding these genetic variants helps elucidate asthma's pathogenesis, predict its onset, expedite antiasthma medication development, and achieve precise targeted individualized treatment. This study developed a test kit based on susceptibility genes for predicting asthma in Chinese children.
