Background: Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy has become the most popular weight loss surgery currently, but it inevitably leaves multiple small scars in the abdomen. Although the appearance of single-incision laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy achieve better cosmetic results, it may lead to postoperative complications such as umbilical hernia and umbilical infection. The author has developed a new surgical approach that can compensate for these deficiencies, which we called needlescopic laparoscope sleeve gastrectomy (NLSG).

The metabolic reprogramming of amino acids is an important component of tumor metabolism. Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) perform important functions in tumor progression. They are the important amino donor and are involved in the synthesis of various non-essential amino acids, nucleotides, and polyamines to satisfy the increased demand for nitrogen sources.

Cell migration and invasion are two important steps for tumour metastasis, and involved the behaviors including metabolism remodeling and anti-apoptosis. However, it's still elusive that cancer cells how to antagonize apoptosis during tumour metastasis. In this study, we observed that super elongation complex (SEC) subunit AF9 depletion exacerbated cell migration and invasion but reduced the apoptosis during invasive migration.

To investigate the potential roles of preoperative multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) in identifying aggressive apical prostate cancer (APCa), thereby helping to facilitate patient counseling and surgical planning. We performed a retrospective analysis of 662 patients who underwent radical prostatectomy (RP) between January 2010 to October 2019. All patients underwent a preoperative biopsy and mpMRI of the prostate.

Disk-like domain receptor 1 (DDR1) is a crucial regulator of pro-inflammatory mediators and matrix-degrading enzymes. Although mounting evidence supports a vital role for DDR1 in the tumorigenesis of some cancers, no pan-cancer analysis of DDR1 has been reported. Therefore, we aimed to explore the prognostic value of DDR1 in 33 cancer types and investigate its potential immune function.

Ferredoxin 1 (FDX1) functions by transferring electrons from NADPH to mitochondrial cytochrome P450 via the ferredoxin reductase and is the key regulator in copper-dependent cell death. Although mounting evidence supports a vital role for FDX1 in tumorigenesis of some cancers, no pan-cancer analysis of FDX1 has been reported. Therefore, we aimed to explore the prognostic value of FDX1 in pan-cancer and investigate its potential immune function.

Ferroptosis is a regulated cell death that characterizes the lethal lipid peroxidation and iron overload, which may contribute to early brain injury (EBI) pathogenesis after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Although Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1), a class III histone deacetylase, has been proved to have endogenous neuroprotective effects on the EBI following SAH, the role of SIRT1 in ferroptosis has not been studied. Hence, we designed the current study to determine the role of ferroptosis in the EBI and explore the correlation between SIRT1 and ferroptosis after SAH.

Proteins provide the main building blocks for tissue growth, cell renewal, and repair during wound healing. We aimed to examine the effect of a compound protein on wound healing, nutritional status, and underlying mechanisms. We first performed a preliminary experiment to identify the appropriate wound healing assessment points.

Acute central nervous system (CNS) injuries, including stroke, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and spinal cord injury (SCI), are the common causes of death or lifelong disabilities. Research into the role of the gut microbiota in modulating CNS function has been rapidly increasing in the past few decades, particularly in animal models. Growing preclinical and clinical evidence suggests that gut microbiota is involved in the modulation of multiple cellular and molecular mechanisms fundamental to the progression of acute CNS injury-induced pathophysiological processes.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are novel biomarkers of various cancers. CircRNAs can sponge miRNAs and regulate target mRNAs, which was called competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNA). This study was designed to identify circRNAs related to patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) and the first to select three independent Gene Expression Omnibus microarrays covering circRNAs, miRNAs, and mRNAs for multiple analyses.

This study was designed to construct a prognostic risk model to predict prognosis and immunotherapy response of bladder cancer (BCa) patinets. 350 differential expressed immune-related genes (DEIRGs) were obtained according to the transcriptome profiling and immune-related genes from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database and ImmPort database, respectively. A prognostic risk model was constructed based on 15 hub genes through univariate, multivariate, and LASSO Cox regression analyses.

P-glycoprotein (P-gp) acts as a pump to transport cytotoxic drugs out of cells and is upregulated in cancer cells. Suppressing the expression of P-gp is an effective strategy to overcome multidrug resistance in cancer chemotherapy. Temozolomide (TMZ) is the recommended drug for the standard treatment of patients with glioblastoma, but its clinical application is restricted due to drug resistance.

To explore the efficacy and safety of intraoperative ultrasound-assisted neuroendoscopy for treating hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage (HICH) via lateral fissure and insula approach. The clinical data of 66 patients with HICH in basal ganglia who underwent intraoperative ultrasound-assisted neuroendoscopy via lateral fissure and insula approach for hematoma evacuation were retrospectively analyzed, including operative data and follow-up results. Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are vital constituents in mediating cell-to-cell communication within the tumor microenvironment. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the interplay between TAMs and tumor cells that guide cell fate are largely undetermined. Extracellular vesicles, also known as exosomes, which are derived from TAMs, are the components exerting regulatory effects.

Testicular germ cell tumors (TGCTs) are the commonest tumors in young men. With the advancement of chemotherapies, most TGCTs are successfully cured, even when diagnosed at an advanced and metastatic stage. However, a proportion of often young patients, median age 35-40, with advanced disease are not cured and will inevitably die.

Temozolomide (TMZ) is the first choice chemotherapy agent against glioblastoma, but the TMZ chemotherapy resistance has restricted the clinical application. Although autophagy is considered an adaptive response for cell survival under the pressure of chemotherapy and associated with chemotherapy resistance, its initiator and the precise molecular mechanism remains unknown. In the present study, it was determined that TMZ increases the transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily C member 5 (TRPC5) protein expression and the basal autophagy level, and the upregulation of autophagy is mediated by TRPC5 in glioma cells.

Background And Objectives: Prophylactic pancreatic duct stent placement effectively reduces post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography pancreatitis in high-risk patients, but the optimal stent remains unclear. We modified a 5-Fr, 3 cm pancreatic stent by removing the flange on the pancreatic side and compared the rate of spontaneous dislodgement and complications with the ordinary stent.

Background: The recent guidelines recommend using the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) to evaluate renal function. There are two reported full-age-spectrum (FAS) equations in 2017, which are based on serum cystatin C concentrations with or without accompanying serum creatinine level (FAS or FAS). We compared the performance and assessed the applicability of the new FAS equation with the 2012 CKD-EPI (CKD-EPI and CKD-EPI) equation in Chinese subjects.

Many types of cancer develop in close association with highly vascularized adipose tissues. However, the role of adipose pre-existing vascular beds on tumor growth and angiogenesis is unknown. Here we report that pre-existing microvascular density in tissues where tumors originate is a crucial determinant for tumor growth and neovascularization.
