Comparison of three ventilatory modes during one-lung ventilation in elderly patients.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of three different ventilatory modes: volume controlled ventilation (VCV), pressure controlled ventilation (PCV) and pressure controlled ventilation-volume guaranteed (PCV-VG) on arterial oxygenation and airway pressure during one-lung ventilation (OLV) in elderly patients.

Methods: We enrolled 66 patients who underwent thoracic surgery requiring at least 1 hour of OLV and aged above 65 years into the study. Patients were classified into VCV, PCV and PCV-VG groups according to a controlled, randomized design.

Analysis of microarray-identified genes and microRNAs associated with drug resistance in ovarian cancer.

The aim of this study was to identify potential microRNAs and genes associated with drug resistance in ovarian cancer through web-available microarrays. The drug resistant-related microRNA microarray dataset GS54665 and mRNA dataset GSE33482, GSE28646, and GSE15372 were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. Dysregulated microRNAs/genes were screened with GEO2R and were further identified in SKOV3 (SKOV3/DDP) and A2780 (A2780/DDP) cells by real-time quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR), and then their associations with drug resistance was analyzed by comprehensive bioinformatic analyses.

Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 expression in breast cancer: correlation with clinical pathological features.

The overexpressed HER2 (human epidermal growth factor receptor 2) is a valuable therapeutic target. Precise assessment of HER2 status is thus crucial in the treatment of breast cancer. In this study, formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded samples of tumors from 304 breast cancer patients who underwent curative surgery procedures between 2011 and 2014 were tested by immunohistochemistry (IHC) as a primary estimate of HER2 status, followed by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH).

Overexpression of CDX2 in gastric cancer cells promotes the development of multidrug resistance.

Modulator of multidrug resistance (MDR) gene is a direct transcriptional target of CDX2. However, we still speculate whether CDX2 affects MDR through other ways. In this study, a cisplatin-resistant (SGC7901/DDP) and a 5-fluoro-2, 4(1h,3h)pyrimidinedione-resistant (BGC823/5-FU) gastric cancer cell line with stable overexpression of CDX2 were established.

CBX8, a novel DNA repair protein, promotes tumorigenesis in human esophageal carcinoma.

DNA damage response and repair are carried out by certain proteins following damage by environmental clastogens, such as ionizing radiation and reactive oxygen species. It has been reported that many carcinomas that are characterized by resistance to chemotherapy and poor outcomes show dysfunction of these proteins. Chromobox homologue 8 (CBX8), a member of the polycomb group of proteins, has been identified as a factor that protects tumor cells from the detrimental effects of ionizing radiation (IR) or hydrogen peroxide (H2O2).
