Background: Due to the essential role of calcium in vital biological functions, diet low in calcium (DLC) is associated with various diseases. However, there is a lack of study about the current prevalence and health burden due to DLC using reliable data sources.
Methods: We used data from the Global Burden of Disease study 2019 (GBD 2019) to estimate the prevalence and health burden of DLC in 204 countries from 1990 to 2019, by age, sex, and sociodemographic index (SDI).

Background: Osteosarcoma (OS) is the leading cancer-associated mortality in childhood and adolescence. Increasing evidence has demonstrated the key function of microRNAs (miRNAs) in OS development and chemoresistance. Among them, miRNA-605-3p acted as an important tumor suppressor and was frequently down-regulated in multiple cancers.

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) metachronous liver metastasis is a significant clinical challenge, largely attributable to the late detection and the intricate molecular mechanisms that remain poorly understood. This study aims to elucidate the role of Solute Carrier Family 14 Member 1 (SLC14A1) in the pathogenesis and progression of CRC metachronous liver metastasis.
Methods: We conducted a comprehensive analysis of CRC patient data from The Cancer Genome Atlas and GSE40967 databases, focusing on the differential expression of genes associated with non-metachronous liver metastasis and metachronous liver metastasis.

Objective: The aim of this study was to develop and validate prognostic models for predicting overall survival in individuals with gastric carcinoma, specifically focusing on both negative and positive lymphatic metastasis.
Methods: A total of 1650 patients who underwent radical gastric surgery at Shanxi Cancer Hospital between May 2002 and December 2020 were included in the analysis. Multiple Cox Proportional Hazards analysis was performed to identify key variables associated with overall survival in both negative and positive lymphatic metastasis cases.

Background: Thyroid metastasis represents a rare occurrence, with commonly observed primary tumors originating from renal cell carcinoma, malignant neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract, lungs, and breast. However, the metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma to the thyroid gland remains infrequent. Previous investigations have consistently demonstrated an unfavorable prognosis for patients with malignancies that have metastasized to the thyroid.

To investigate the immunophenotypic and molecular biological characteristics of patients with elevated serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and enteroblastic differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma (GAED). The clinicopathological data of 13 patients with elevated serum AFP and GAED admitted to Shanxi Cancer Hospital from 2018 to 2020 were collected. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) and next-generation sequencing (NGS) were used to analyze the immune markers and molecular biological characteristics of the pathological tissues of the patients.

Triple‑negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a highly aggressive and heterogeneous subtype of breast cancer that lacks expression of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and HER2, making it more challenging to treat with targeted therapies. The present study aimed to identify CD8+ T cell‑associated genes, which could provide insight into the mechanisms underlying TNBC to facilitate developing novel immunotherapies. TNBC datasets were downloaded from public databases including The Cancer Genome Atlas, Molecular Taxonomy of Breast Cancer International Consortium, and Gene Expression Omnibus.

Background: The mechanism of action of envafolimab (also known as KN035), a programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) inhibitor, in gastric adenocarcinoma patients with low PD-L1 expression is not well understood.
Aims: This study aimed to observe the efficacy of envafolimab in gastric adenocarcinoma with low PD-L1 expression and explore the underlying mechanisms.
Objective: The objective of this study was to explore the underlying mechanism of envafolimab in gastric cancer with low PD-L1 expression.
Gastric cancer, a prevalent malady within the digestive tract, has a complex pathological mechanism and numerous patients. The regulation of gastric cancer process by long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) presented new prospects for the study of its molecular mechanism and the treatment of patients. The abnormal expressed genes in gastric cancer were screened by GSE193109 dataset.

Background: Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) test in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) can help physicians provide target therapies for patients harboring ALK gene rearrangement. This study aimed to investigate the real-world test patterns and positive rates of ALK gene rearrangements in advanced NSCLC.
Methods: In this real-world study (ChiCTR2000030266), patients with advanced NSCLC who underwent an ALK rearrangement test in 30 medical centers in China between October 1, 2018 and December 31, 2019 were retrospectively analyzed.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic disease that includes Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). Although genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have identified many relevant genetic risk loci, the impact of these loci on protein abundance and their potential utility as clinical therapeutic targets remain uncertain. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the pathogenesis of IBD and identify effective therapeutic targets through a comprehensive and integrated analysis.

The unresolved issue of the relationship between sex differences in tea, coffee, and beverage consumption and malignancy risk prompted our study in 2022. Logistic proportional hazards models were used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) in our investigation of the associations between cancer risk and tea, coffee, and beverage consumption. Our findings revealed that frequent consumption of white tea significantly reduced the occurrence of malignant tumours, but this effect was detected only in the fully adjusted model for males (OR: 0.

Purpose: Lymph node-based staging protocols are frequently employed to evaluate the prognosis of esophageal cancer, yet their accuracy remains contentious. The present study was conducted to assess the prognostic significance of three lymph node staging systems, namely N stage, lymph node rate (LNR), and log odds of positive lymph nodes (LODDS), in patients diagnosed with advanced (T2-T4) esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).
Methods: This cohort comprised 319 eligible patients, with an additional 409 individuals retrieved from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database, forming the validation cohort.

Background: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a major cause of vision loss in workingage individuals worldwide. Cell-to-cell communication between retinal cells and retinal pigment epithelial cells (RPEs) in DR is still unclear, so this study aimed to generate a single-cell atlas and identify receptor‒ligand communication between retinal cells and RPEs.
Methods: A mouse single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) dataset was retrieved from the GEO database (GSE178121) and was further analyzed with the R package Seurat.

Sialadenitis and sialadenitis-induced sialopathy are typically caused by obstruction of the salivary gland ducts. Atrophy of the salivary glands in experimental animals caused by duct ligation exhibits a histopathology similar to that of salivary gland sialadenitis. Therefore, a variety of duct ligation/de-ligation models have been commonly employed to study salivary gland injury and regeneration.
