Median arcuate ligament (MAL) syndrome, otherwise known as celiac artery compression syndrome, is rare and is characterized by celiac artery compression by the median arcuate ligament. We report a unique case of MAL syndrome with recurrent myocardial infarction as the primary manifestation, and offer new pathophysiological insights. A man in his early 50s experienced recurrent upper abdominal pain, electrocardiographic changes, and elevated troponin concentrations, which suggested myocardial infarction.

Objective: We aimed to study the involvement of ferroptosis in the pathogenesis of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) by conducting bioinformatics analyses and identifying and validating the associated ferroptosis-related genes to explore new directions for treating BPD.

Methods: The dataset GSE32472 on BPD was downloaded from the public genome database. Using R language, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the BPD and normal group were screened.

Background: With the increasing survival rate of smaller newborns and twins, previous growth curves may not accurately assess the growth of extremely preterm infants (EPIs). Our study aimed to establish birth weight percentile curves for singletons and twins in EPIs from China and the USA and compare the differences between them.

Methods: In China, EPIs were from 31 provinces, from 2010 to 2021.

J Glob Health

January 2024

Prenatal Diagnostic Center and Cord Blood Bank, Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center, Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, China.

Background: With the spread of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic in schools and communities, clinical evidence is needed to determine the impact of the pandemic and public health interventions under the zero coronavirus disease policy on the occurrence of common infectious diseases and non-infectious diseases among children.

Institute of Social Development and Health Management, Hubei Province Key Laboratory of Occupational Hazard Identification and Control, School of Public Health, Wuhan University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430065, China. Electronic address:

Background: Studies suggested that greenness could reduce death risks related to ambient exposure to particulate matter (PM), while the available evidence was mixed across the globe and substantially exiguous in low- and middle-income countries. By conceiving an individual-level case-crossover study in central China, this analysis primarily aimed to quantify PM-mortality associations and examined the modification effect of greenness on the relationship.

Methods: We investigated a total of 177,058 nonaccidental death cases from 12 counties in central China, 2008-2012.

Kawasaki disease (KD) is a systemic vasculitis of unknown etiology, which tends to involve coronary arteries and can lead to acquired heart disease in children. The immuno-inflammatory response and vascular endothelial dysfunction are important causes of coronary artery disease in patients with KD. Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a rare inflammatory disease in children identified in recent years, which is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection; this disease overlaps with KD.

Background: Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a serious chronic complication of diabetes mellitus that contributes to 85% of nontraumatic lower extremity amputations in diabetic patients. Preliminary clinical benefits have been shown in treatments based on mesenchymal stem cells for patients with DFU or peripheral arterial disease (PAD). However, the long-term safety and benefits are unclear for patients with both DFU and PAD who are not amenable to surgical revascularization.

ANGPTL8 promotes adipogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells: potential role in ectopic lipid deposition.

Front Endocrinol (Lausanne)

August 2022

Department of Neurosurgery, Hubei Key Laboratory of Embryonic Stem Cell Research, Taihe Hospital, Hubei University of Medicine, Shiyan, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Ectopic lipid deposition, which is when fat builds up in the wrong places in the body, is linked to serious health issues like diabetes and obesity, and a protein called ANGPTL8 might be involved in this process.
  • Researchers studied ANGPTL8 levels in people with obesity and in mice fed a high-fat diet to understand its role in fat accumulation.
  • Results showed that mice without ANGPTL8 gained less weight and had less fat in their organs compared to normal mice, but female mice had different results due to hormones affecting ANGPTL8 levels.

Department of Clinical Nutrition, Shanghai Children's Medical Center, School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, 200127, China. Electronic address:

Intraperitoneal implantation of ovarian cancer (OC) decreases the survival rate in clinical practice. However, there are still great deficiencies in the therapeutic strategies of inhibiting the metastasis of OC. Here, we showed that 4-octyl itaconate (OI, a cell-permeable itaconate derivative) treatment didn't influence the development of OC in vitro.

Freezing of gait is a disabling symptom with a complex episodic nature that is frequently experienced by people with Parkinson's disease (PD). Although China has the largest population with PD in the world, no Chinese version of the freezing of gait questionnaire (FOGQ), the instrument that has been most widely used to assess FOG, has yet been developed. This study aimed to translate and adapt the original version of FOGQ to create a Chinese version, the FOGQ-CH, then assess its reliability, calculate the Minimal Detectable Change (MDC) and investigate its validity.

Department of Human Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, Institute of Neurobiology, Health Science Center, Xian Jiaotong University, Xi'an, China.

We aim to explore the expression and function of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) ATP2B1-AS1 in a cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. In this study, we established a middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion (MCAO/IR) rat model and an OGD/R PC12 cell model to evaluate the expression and role of ATP2B1-AS1 in the cerebral I/R injury. We found that the expression of ATP2B1-AS1 was upregulated in both and cerebral I/R injury models.
