Median arcuate ligament (MAL) syndrome, otherwise known as celiac artery compression syndrome, is rare and is characterized by celiac artery compression by the median arcuate ligament. We report a unique case of MAL syndrome with recurrent myocardial infarction as the primary manifestation, and offer new pathophysiological insights. A man in his early 50s experienced recurrent upper abdominal pain, electrocardiographic changes, and elevated troponin concentrations, which suggested myocardial infarction.

Objective: We aimed to study the involvement of ferroptosis in the pathogenesis of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) by conducting bioinformatics analyses and identifying and validating the associated ferroptosis-related genes to explore new directions for treating BPD.
Methods: The dataset GSE32472 on BPD was downloaded from the public genome database. Using R language, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the BPD and normal group were screened.

Background: With the increasing survival rate of smaller newborns and twins, previous growth curves may not accurately assess the growth of extremely preterm infants (EPIs). Our study aimed to establish birth weight percentile curves for singletons and twins in EPIs from China and the USA and compare the differences between them.
Methods: In China, EPIs were from 31 provinces, from 2010 to 2021.

Background: With the spread of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic in schools and communities, clinical evidence is needed to determine the impact of the pandemic and public health interventions under the zero coronavirus disease policy on the occurrence of common infectious diseases and non-infectious diseases among children.
Methods: The current study was designed to analyse the occurrence of common infectious diseases before and after the pandemic outbreak in southern China. Data was obtained for 1 801 728 patients admitted into children's hospitals in Guangzhou between January 2017 and July 2022.

Background: Studies suggested that greenness could reduce death risks related to ambient exposure to particulate matter (PM), while the available evidence was mixed across the globe and substantially exiguous in low- and middle-income countries. By conceiving an individual-level case-crossover study in central China, this analysis primarily aimed to quantify PM-mortality associations and examined the modification effect of greenness on the relationship.
Methods: We investigated a total of 177,058 nonaccidental death cases from 12 counties in central China, 2008-2012.

Background: Epidemiological studies have linked long-term ozone (O) exposure with depression in developed countries. However, available literature is sparse and exists great heterogeneities. We aimed to investigate the association of long-term O exposure with depression among Chinese middle-aged and older adults.

Background: Sex difference in the association between ambient air pollution and cognitive aging remained unclear. This current study aimed to assess the impacts of long-term exposure to major air pollutants on cognitive performance among Chinese middle-aged and older adults, and explore whether these associations could be modified by sex.
Methods: By deriving longitudinal data from four waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, we included 13,507 participants aged 45+ years who had at least two cognitive tests recorded from 2011 to 2018.

Background: Birth asphyxia causes hypoxia or inadequate perfusion to the organs of newborns, leading to metabolism dysfunctions including blood glucose disorders.
Methods: Neonates with and without birth asphyxia were retrospectively recruited from 53 hospitals in Hubei Province from January 1 to December 31, 2018. In summary, 875, 1139, and 180 cases in the control group, the mild asphyxia group, and the severe asphyxia group were recruited, respectively.

Kawasaki disease (KD) is a systemic vasculitis of unknown etiology, which tends to involve coronary arteries and can lead to acquired heart disease in children. The immuno-inflammatory response and vascular endothelial dysfunction are important causes of coronary artery disease in patients with KD. Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a rare inflammatory disease in children identified in recent years, which is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection; this disease overlaps with KD.

Background: Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a serious chronic complication of diabetes mellitus that contributes to 85% of nontraumatic lower extremity amputations in diabetic patients. Preliminary clinical benefits have been shown in treatments based on mesenchymal stem cells for patients with DFU or peripheral arterial disease (PAD). However, the long-term safety and benefits are unclear for patients with both DFU and PAD who are not amenable to surgical revascularization.

Intraperitoneal implantation of ovarian cancer (OC) decreases the survival rate in clinical practice. However, there are still great deficiencies in the therapeutic strategies of inhibiting the metastasis of OC. Here, we showed that 4-octyl itaconate (OI, a cell-permeable itaconate derivative) treatment didn't influence the development of OC in vitro.

Sigma‑1 receptor (Sig‑1R) is a class of orphan receptors, the potential role of which in pancreatic islet cells remains poorly understood. The present study aimed to investigate the role of Sig‑1R in islet β‑cell proliferation and examine the effects of Sig‑1R on islet β‑cell injury under lipotoxic conditions. Sig‑1R‑overexpressing MIN6 cells were generated by lentiviral vector transfection.

To explore the application effect of aminophylline combined with caffeine citrate and GMs in the evaluation of neurodevelopmental treatment and follow-up in high-risk preterm infants. A retrospective analysis of 66 high-risk preterm infants admitted to Hengshui People's Hospital from January 2020 to June 2021 was conducted. The children who received only conventional treatment were set as the control group, while those who received aminophylline and caffeine citrate on the basis of conventional treatment were set as the experimental group, 33 cases each group; GMs were used to evaluate the neurodevelopmental function of the children, and the treatment effect was analyzed.

Freezing of gait is a disabling symptom with a complex episodic nature that is frequently experienced by people with Parkinson's disease (PD). Although China has the largest population with PD in the world, no Chinese version of the freezing of gait questionnaire (FOGQ), the instrument that has been most widely used to assess FOG, has yet been developed. This study aimed to translate and adapt the original version of FOGQ to create a Chinese version, the FOGQ-CH, then assess its reliability, calculate the Minimal Detectable Change (MDC) and investigate its validity.

We aim to explore the expression and function of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) ATP2B1-AS1 in a cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. In this study, we established a middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion (MCAO/IR) rat model and an OGD/R PC12 cell model to evaluate the expression and role of ATP2B1-AS1 in the cerebral I/R injury. We found that the expression of ATP2B1-AS1 was upregulated in both and cerebral I/R injury models.
