Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a disease condition incorporating the abnormal accumulation of various metabolic components, including overweight or abdominal obesity, insulin resistance and abnormal glucose tolerance, hypertension, atherosclerosis, or dyslipidemia. It has been proved that the gut microbiota and microbial-derived products play an important role in regulating lipid metabolism and thus the onset and development of MetS. Previous studies have demonstrated that oligosaccharides with prebiotic effects, such as chitosan oligosaccharides, can regulate the structure of the microbial community and its derived products to control weight and reduce MetS associated with obesity.

GATM-related Fanconi renotubular syndrome 1 (FRTS1) is a form of renal Fanconi syndrome (RFS), which is a disorder of solute and water reabsorption caused by defects in the function of the entire proximal tubule. Recent findings reveal the molecular basis of FRTS1: Intramitochondrial fiber aggregation triggered by mutant GATM provides a starting point for proximal tubule damage and drives disease progression. As a rare and newly recognized inherited kidney disease, the complex manifestations of FRTS1 are easily underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed.

The simple and low-cost construction of a 3D network structure is an ideal way to prepare high-performance electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption materials. Herein, a series of carbon skeleton/carbon nanotubes/NiZnC composites (CS/CNTs/NiZnC) are successfully prepared by in situ growth of NiZnC and CNTs on 3D melamine sponge carbon. With the increase of precursor, NiZnC nanoparticles nucleate and catalyze the generation of CNTs on the surface of the carbon skeleton.

Background: Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is a common monogenic multisystem disease caused primarily by mutations in the PKD1 gene or PKD2 gene. There is increasing evidence that some of these variants, which are described as missense, synonymous or nonsense mutations in the literature or databases, may be deleterious by affecting the pre-mRNA splicing process.
Results: This study aimed to determine the effect of these PKD1 and PKD2 variants on exon splicing combined with predictive bioinformatics tools and minigene assay.

Introduction: Chemokine-like factor (CKLF)-like MARVEL transmembrane domain containing 6 (CMTM6) is a protein localized to the cell membrane and is known for its ability to co-localize with PD-L1 on the plasma membrane, prevent PD-L1 degradation, and maintain PD-L1 expression on the cell membrane. CMTM6 is highly expressed and plays an important role in various tumors such as oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and colorectal cancer (CRC), however, its role in Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is unclear.
Methods: In this paper, to investigate the role of CMTM6 in GBM, we analyzed the expression of CMTM6 in GBM, the interaction with CMTM6 and the associated genes by bioinformatics.

Background: Gitelman syndrome (GS) is a type of salt-losing tubular disease, most of which is caused by SLC12A3 gene variants, and missense variants account for the majority. Recently, the phenomenon of exon skipping, in which variants disrupt normal pre-mRNA splicing, has been related to a variety of diseases. Therefore, we hypothesize that a certain proportion of SLC12A3 variants can result in disease via interfering with the normal splicing process.

Chemotherapy resistance is a huge challenge in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma because resistance to nab-paclitaxel largely affects the efficacy of chemotherapy. An increased expression of fibronectin type III domain-containing protein 5 (FNDC5) in hepatocellular carcinoma cells can predict post-hepatectomy complications in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and also stimulate proliferation and invasion of hepatocellular carcinoma cells; however, its role in the chemotherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma cells has never been evaluated. Thus, this study aimed to explore whether FNDC5 regulates chemoresistance in hepatocellular carcinoma.

Background: Lactic acid, as a product of glycolysis, increases tumor cell migration and the invasion of tumor cells in the tumor microenvironment. Besides this, lactic acid promotes the expression of programmed death-1 expression (PD-1) in regulatory T cells, which could cause the failure of PD-1 blockade therapy. However, the implications of lactic acid in the tumor microenvironment of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) remain largely unclear.
