Role of NLRP3 in the pathogenesis and treatment of gout arthritis.

Front Immunol

April 2023

Anhui Province Key Laboratory of Major Autoimmune Diseases, Anhui Institute of Innovative Drugs, School of Pharmacy, Anhui Medical University, Hefei, China.

Article Synopsis
  • - Gout arthritis (GA) is an inflammatory condition caused by the buildup of monosodium urate crystals, influenced by genetic, environmental, and metabolic factors, leading to activation of the immune system due to persistent high uric acid levels.
  • - Current treatments for GA include anti-inflammatory drugs and uric acid-lowering agents, but their effectiveness is limited, and the underlying molecular mechanisms, especially regarding NLRP3 inflammasome activation, remain poorly understood.
  • - The NLRP3 inflammasome plays a crucial role in GA initiation and progression, making it a potential target for diagnosis and treatment; pharmacological inhibition of this inflammasome could lead to new therapeutic strategies, with ongoing research into natural products and novel

Affiliated Psychological Hospital of Anhui Medical University, Hefei, China; Department of Pharmacy, Hefei Fourth People's Hospital, Hefei, China; Psychopharmacology Research Laboratory, Anhui Mental Health Center, Hefei, China; Anhui Clinical Research Center for Mental Disorders, Hefei, China. Electronic address:

Background: Several lines of evidence have suggested that cytokines are implicated in the pathophysiology of depression and antidepressant treatment outcome. However, the results are not always congruent and partly contradictory. We therefore examined the serum levels of multiple cytokines in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD), with the aim to identify serum cytokines-based biomarkers for MDD diagnosis and antidepressant response.

Background: Sleep disturbance is one of the most prominent complaints of patients with alcohol use disorder (AUD), with more than 70% of patients with AUD reporting an inability to resolve sleep problems during abstinence. Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) has been shown to improve sleep quality and as an alternative therapy to hypnotics for sleep disorders.

Objective: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of short-term MBSR on sleep quality in male patients with AUD after withdrawal.

Functional roles, regulatory mechanisms and theranostics applications of ncRNAs in alcohol use disorder.

Int J Biol Sci

March 2023

Anhui Province Key Laboratory of Major Autoimmune Diseases, Anhui Institute of Innovative Drugs, School of Pharmacy, Anhui Medical University, Hefei, 230032, China.

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is one of the most prevalent neuropsychological disorders worldwide, and its pathogenesis is convoluted and poorly understood. There is considerable evidence demonstrating significant associations between multiple heritable factors and the onset and progression of AUD. In recent years, a substantial body of research conducted by emerging biotechnologies has increasingly highlighted the crucial roles of noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) in the pathophysiology of mental diseases.

Background: Cerebral specialization is an important functional architecture of the human brain. Abnormal cerebral specialization may be the underlying pathogenesis of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) was used to show that the specialization pattern of OCD was of great significance for early warning and precise intervention of the disease.

Introduction: To explore the association between regional gray matter volume (GMV) and cognitive impairments and ascertain whether the regional brain alterations related to cognitive impairments occur in major depressive disorder (MDD) patients with comorbid subclinical hypothyroidism (SHypo).

Methods: We enrolled 32 MDD patients, 32 MDD patients with comorbid SHypo, and 32 normal controls and subjected them to thyroid function tests, neurocognitive tests, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Using voxel-based morphometry (VBM) analysis, we examined the pattern of gray matter (GM) in these participants.

An increasing number of studies have highlighted the potential of microRNAs (miRNAs) as physiological indicators of major depressive disorder (MDD). Herein, we developed a bidirectional-motivated bimodal isothermal strand displacement amplifier (BB-ISDA) for the ultrasensitive fluorescent and colorimetric detection of MDD-related miRNA-132. In the BB-ISDA system, a pair of functionalized hairpin probes (HP1 and HP2) with nicking recognition sites are designed to recognize target miRNA.
