Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the role and molecular mechanism of proline/arginine-rich end leucine-rich repeat protein (PRELP), a secreted protein in extracellular matrix, in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) progression.
Design: PRELP expression in OSCC was analyzed in the Gene Set Enrichment (GSE) 138206, GSE37991, and GSE23558 datasets as well as cell lines. Also, PRELP expression and its relationship with prognosis and immune infiltration in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) were confirmed by bioinformatics analysis.

Background: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is one of the malignant tumors with the highest morbidity and mortality in the world. Early diagnosis can significantly improve the prognosis of patients. Transfer RNA (tRNA)-derived fragments (tRFs) have been found to have a crucial function in the pathophysiology of cancers.

Background: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a heterogeneous disease, for which identifying reliable prognostic markers is critical for accurate clinical prognosis and treatment optimization. The inhibition of emopamil-binding protein gene (EBP) expression has been demonstrated to induce cancer cell death via depleting downstream sterols. Nevertheless, no comprehensive studies have been conducted specifically in tumors, including AML.

Background: The resistance of multiple myeloma (MM) to bortezomib (BTZ) has brought multiple challenges to its clinical use. Numerous ginsenosides have potential anti-tumor effects, however, the research on the role of Rg1 in MM has not been reported.
Objective: To examine the inhibitory impact of Rg1 on the growth of MM and reduce the drug resistance of MM to BTZ through and experiments, and to explore their potential mechanism.

Background: Defective clearance of apoptotic and foam cells achieved by arterial macrophage efferocytosis propels the progression of inflammatory atherosclerosis, but related molecular mechanisms in this process remain unclear. Herein, this study is engineered to probe into the mechanism of peroxisome-proliferator-activated receptor-γ coactivator-1α (PGC1α) on atherosclerosis.
Methods: The PGC1α/NLR family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3)/peroxisome proliferator activated receptor alpha (PPARα) axis in oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL)-induced RAW264.

To quantitatively evaluate chronic kidney disease (CKD), a deep convolutional neural network-based segmentation model was applied to renal enhanced computed tomography (CT) images. A retrospective analysis was conducted on a cohort of 100 individuals diagnosed with CKD and 90 individuals with healthy kidneys, who underwent contrast-enhanced CT scans of the kidneys or abdomen. Demographic and clinical data were collected from all participants.

Background: The interactions between fibroblasts and bronchial epithelial cells play important roles in the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Interleukin (IL)-17A triggers the activation of fibroblasts and the secretion of inflammatory mediators, which promotes epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in bronchial epithelial cells. Fibroblasts secrete C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 12 (CXCL12), which specifically binds to its receptor, C-X-C motif chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4) to mediate inflammatory responses.

Objective To construct a risk prediction model by integrating the molecular subtypes of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and immune-related genes. Methods With GSE71729 data set (=145) as the training set,the differentially expressed genes and differential immune-related genes between the squamous and non-squamous subtypes of PDAC were integrated to construct a regulatory network,on the basis of which five immune marker genes regulating the squamous subtype were screened out.An integrated immune score (IIS) model was constructed based on patient survival information and immune marker genes to predict the clinical prognosis of PDAC patients, and its predictive performance was tested with 5 validation sets (=758).

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a prevalent neurodegenerative disorder among the elderly population. The pathogenesis of PD encompasses genetic alterations, environmental factors, and age-related neurodegenerative processes. Numerous studies have demonstrated that aberrant functioning of the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) plays a crucial role in the initiation and progression of PD.

Immunotherapy for hematological malignancies is a rapidly advancing field that has gained momentum in recent years, primarily encompassing chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapies, immune checkpoint inhibitors, and other modalities. However, its clinical efficacy remains limited, and drug resistance poses a significant challenge. Therefore, novel immunotherapeutic targets and agents need to be identified.

Groove pancreatitis (GP) is a rare type of chronic pancreatitis characterized by fibrotic lesions localized to the groove between the pancreatic head, duodenum, and common bile duct. We present a case of a 59-year-old male alcoholic with vomiting and renal dysfunction found to have duodenal obstruction and low-density pancreatic head lesions on computed tomography concerning for GP. The patient underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy and pathology confirmed the diagnosis postoperatively.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is associated with both kidney function loss and increased mortality. In the pathological progression of ischemia-reperfusion-induced AKI, the surge of reactive oxygen species (ROS) plays a crucial role. To combat this, mitochondrial-targeted antioxidant therapy shows great promise as mitochondria are the primary source of ROS in AKI.

Acute kidney injury (AKI), a condition associated with reactive oxygen species (ROS), causes high mortality in clinics annually. Active targeted antioxidative therapy is emerging as a novel strategy for AKI treatment. In this study, we developed a polymeric prodrug that targets the highly expressed Megalin receptor on proximal tubule cells, enabling direct delivery of N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) for the treatment of ischemia reperfusion injury (IRI)-induced AKI.
