Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the relationship between autoimmune diseases and schizophrenia through a Mendelian randomization analysis in individuals of European descent, addressing previous conflicting findings.
  • Results suggest that ankylosing spondylitis increases the risk of schizophrenia, while celiac disease, type 1 diabetes, and systemic lupus erythematosus may decrease it; conversely, schizophrenia is related to higher risks of some autoimmune conditions.
  • The research highlights a potential causal connection between autoimmune diseases and schizophrenia, emphasizing the need for further studies to explore the underlying mechanisms.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Numerous studies have demonstrated that various traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) exhibit potent anti-inflammatory effects against inflammatory diseases mediated through macrophage polarization and metabolic reprogramming.

Aim Of The Study: The objective of this review was to assess and consolidate the current understanding regarding the pathogenic mechanisms governing macrophage polarization in the context of regulating inflammatory diseases. We also summarize the mechanism action of various TCMs on the regulation of macrophage polarization, which may contribute to facilitate the development of natural anti-inflammatory drugs based on reshaping macrophage polarization.

Background: There is mounting proof that rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and cognitive decline are related. These studies, however, have not all been uniform, and others have not discovered such a correlation. It is essential to investigate the link between RA and cognitive decline.

Object: Though significant correlations between rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and hypothyroidism have been found in earlier observational studies, their underlying causal relationship is still unknown. Mendelian randomization (MR) was used in the current study to assess the bidirectional causation between RA and hypothyroidism.

Method: We gathered summary data from genome-wide association studies (GWASs) of RA and hypothyroidism in people of European descent.

To systematically evaluate the effectiveness and safety of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on spasticity after upper motor neuron (UMN) injury. Eight electronic databases were searched from inception to August 6, 2022. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating the effectiveness and safety of rTMS on spasticity after UMN injury were retrieved.
