Purpose: Iodine nutrition during pregnancy plays an important role in fetal development and maternal outcomes. Iodine deficiency has been proved to be associated with maternal thyroid dysfunction, adverse fetal outcomes and neurodevelopmental disorders in offspring. At present, there are few studies concentrate on the effects of iodine excess during pregnancy on thyroid function, maternal and neonatal outcomes, and the results are still controversial.

Asthenoteratozoospermia is a common cause of male infertility. To further define the genetic causes underlying asthenoteratozoospermia, we performed whole-exome sequencing in a cohort of Han Chinese men with asthenoteratozoospermia. Homozygous deleterious variants of MYCBPAP were first identified in two unrelated Chinese cases.

Background: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a prevalent neurodevelopmental disorder in childhood. There is growing evidence that both preterm birth and maternal education levels substantially affect the likelihood of ADHD in children. However, there are limited systematic reviews and meta-analyses examining these associations.

Tumor angiogenesis and the presence of cancer stem cells (CSCs) are critical characteristics of tumors. Previous research has demonstrated that cancer stem cells promote tumor angiogenesis, while increased vascularity, in turn, fosters the growth of cancer stem cells. This creates a detrimental cycle that contributes to tumor progression.

In the context of the global damage caused by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and the emergence of the monkeypox virus (MPXV) outbreak as a public health emergency of international concern, research into methods that can rapidly test potential therapeutics during an outbreak of a new infectious disease is urgently needed. Computational drug discovery is an effective way to solve such problems. The existence of various large open databases has mitigated the time and resource consumption of traditional drug development and improved the speed of drug discovery.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a prevalent chronic disease, characterized by the destruction of joint cartilage and synovitis, affects over 7 % of people worldwide. Disease-modifying treatments for OA still face significant challenges. Chondrocytes, as the exclusive cellular component of articular cartilage, play a pivotal role in synthesizing the intricate matrix of cartilage, thereby assuming a critical responsibility in facilitating its renewal and repair processes.

Background: As a class of synthetic chemicals, organophosphate esters (OPEs) were shown to have thyroid hormones (THs) disrupting potentials in animal studies, while epidemiological evidence on gestational exposure to OPEs and thyroid disruption is limited. Besides, assessment on the safety threshold of OPEs exposure during gestation is especially scarce.
Methods: Based on the Shanghai Minhang Birth Cohort Study, we measured maternal urine concentration of 8 OPE metabolites and THs levels in cord plasma and examined their associations using multiple linear regression and quantile g-computation (QGC) models.

Introduction: Accurate identification and grading of clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa, Gleason Score ≥ 7) without invasive procedures remains a significant clinical challenge. This study aims to develop and evaluate a two-stage model designed for precise Gleason grading. The model initially uses radiomics-based multiparametric MRI to identify csPCa and then refines the Gleason grading by integrating clinical indicators and radiomics features.

Early maternal loss can have lasting detrimental effects on primate social development. While many rehabilitation settings provide enriching environments to buffer against such effects in orphans, previous research indicates that young bonobo () orphans exhibit striking deficiencies in socio-emotional competence compared to their mother-reared peers. However, such studies are generally cross-sectional, without accounting for changes across the lifespan.
