Oligoasthenoteratozoospermia (OAT) is a common cause of infertility among males, and the majority of cases of idiopathic OAT are thought to be attributed to genetic defects. In this study, the role of the CEP78 protein in spermatogenesis was initially investigated using Cep78 knockout (Cep78) mice. Notably, the male Cep78 mice exhibited the OAT phenotype and sterility.

Background: Sorafenib is a first-line treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC); however, acquired resistance often results in a poor prognosis, indicating a need for more effective therapies. Sorafenib induces cell death through an iron-dependent mechanism known as ferroptosis, which is closely associated with the onset and progression of HCC.
Methods: This study investigated the role of ACSL3 in sorafenib resistance and ferroptosis in HCC.

Syringaresinol, a phytochemical constituent belonging to lignan, is formed from two sinapyl alcohol units linked via a β-β linkage, which can be found in a wide variety of cereals and medicinal plants. Medical researches revealed that Syringaresinol possesses a broad spectrum of biological activities, including anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidation, anticancer, antibacterial, antiviral, neuroprotection, and vasodilation effects. These pharmacological properties lay the foundation for its use in treating various diseases such as inflammatory diseases, neurodegenerative disorders, diabetes and its complication, skin disorders, cancer, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

Background: Pre-eclampsia (PE) poses a significant threat to mothers and infants worldwide. Studies indicate that taking low-dose aspirin before the 16th week of pregnancy may prevent approximately 70 % of PE cases, highlighting the importance of predicting PE. Cell-free RNA (cf-RNA) exhibits significant changes in the maternal peripheral blood during early pregnancy, making cf-RNA analysis a promising and less invasive method for predicting PE.

Background: The use of visceral obesity as an indicator for predicting female infertility risk has not been well established. The body roundness index (BRI) is a novel, non-invasive indicator of visceral fat; however, previous reports have not addressed the relationship between the BRI and female infertility. This study sought to fill this research gap by investigating the association between the BRI and the risk of female infertility.

Study Question: Is there a difference in the cumulative live birth rate (CLBR) after fresh testicular sperm aspiration (TESA) compared with the use of either pre-frozen sperm or oocyte freezing for couples experiencing ejaculation failure on the day of oocyte retrieval?
Summary Answer: After adjusting for confounding factors, the use of pre-frozen sperm or the freezing and thawing of oocytes appeared to be as effective as TESA in achieving CLBRs for couples experiencing temporary ejaculation failure.
What Is Known Already: Male patients may be concerned about experiencing temporary ejaculation failure on the day of their partner's oocyte retrieval, in which case they may choose surgical sperm retrieval, oocyte freezing on the day, or have their sperm frozen in advance. However, the clinical efficacy of these three options has not yet been evaluated.

Preeclampsia is one of the most severe obstetric complications, yet its pathogenesis remains unclear. Decidual natural killer (dNK) cells, the most abundant immune cells at the maternal-fetal interface, are closely associated with preeclampsia due to abnormalities in their quantity, phenotype, and function. This review summarizes the molecular mechanisms by which dNK cells regulate extravillous trophoblast (EVT) invasion, promote uterine spiral artery remodeling, and maintain immune tolerance.

Despite the well-documented mutation spectra of β-thalassemia, the genetic variants and haplotypes of globin gene clusters modulating its clinical heterogeneity remain incompletely illustrated. Here, a targeted long-read sequencing (T-LRS) is demonstrated to capture 20 genes/loci in 1,020 β-thalassemia patients. This panel permits not only identification of thalassemia mutations at 100% of sensitivity and specificity, but also detection of rare structural variants (SVs) and single nucleotide variants (SNVs) in modifier genes/loci.
