The NOD-like receptor protein 3/caspase-1 inflammasome can be activated in human dental pulp tissue and fibroblasts; however, the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. In the present study, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was used to treat dental pulp cells to establish an inflammation model. Cell viability was examined by sulforhodamine B assay.

Raf-1 proto-oncogene, serine/threonine kinase (Raf1) acts as a part of the RAS/RAF/MEK/ERK signaling pathway and regulates cell migration, apoptosis and differentiation. However, few studies are available on the expression and clinical significance of Raf1 in non‑small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This study investigated the clinical value and prognostic significance of Raf1 in NSCLC patients, following radiotherapy.

Aurora kinase A (AURKA) is an oncogenic serine/threonine kinase, it plays important roles in tumorigenesis and chemoresistance. In this study, we investigated the expression of AURKA in lung adenocarcinoma tissues, the role of small interference RNA targeting AURKA on growth, cell cycle, and apoptosis of lung adenocarcinoma cell lines in vitro. The AURKA is highly expressed in lung adenocarcinoma tissues and human lung adenocarcinoma cell lines.

Pancreatic head cancer is a common but the most lethal cancer of the human digestive system. It is invasive, resulting in early infiltration of adjacent structures and lymph node and distant metastases. Its biological characteristics of neurotropic growth lead to early neural invasion (NI) which is an independent prognostic factor of survival for pancreatic cancer.

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between genetic polymorphisms in DNA ligase 1 (LIG1) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) susceptibility and radiosensitivity in a Chinese population. This was a case-control study that included 352 NSCLC patients and 448 healthy controls. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis was conducted to detect HaeIII polymorphisms in exon 6 of the LIG1 gene in this popula-tion.

We investigated the effects of troglitazone on human cervical cancer SiHa cells and its mechanisms of action. SiHa cells were incubated with different concentrations of troglitazone (100, 200, or 400 μg/mL) for 24, 48, and 72 hours. Cell viability was measured by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl) 2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay; cell cycle and apoptosis were detected by flow cytometry; and morphology of SiHa cells was observed under an inverted microscope.

Background: As the third generation of platinum-based antineoplastic agent aginst gastrointestinal cancer, oxaliplatin is considered to be associated with severe sensory neurotoxicity. Acorrding to previous studies, vitaminE, intravenous Ca/Mg and glutamine may partly reduce the incidence and severity of oxaliplatin-induced neurotoxicity. The aim of this study was to investigate the safety and efficacy of analgecine for preventing oxaliplatin-induced neurotoxicity in the patients with gastrointestinal tumors.

Background: Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is associated with invasion and metastasis of cancer cells. High-mobility group AT-hook 2 (HMGA2) has been found to play a critical role in EMT in a number of malignant tumors. However, whether HMGA2 regulates the EMT in human nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is unclear.

Purpose: Rectal cancers with high microsatellite-instable have clinical and pathological features that differentiate them from microsatellite-stable or low- frequency carcinomas, which was studied rarely in stage II rectal cancer, promoting the present investigation of the usefulness of microsatellite-instability status as a predictor of the benefit of adjuvant chemotherapy with fluorouracil in stage II rectal cancer.
Patients And Methods: Data of 460 patients who underwent primary anterior resection with a double stapling technique for rectal carcinoma at a single institution from 2008 to 2012 were retrospectively collected. All patients experienced a total mesorectal excision (TME) operation.
