A comparative study of IL-33 and its receptor ST2 in a C57BL/6 J mouse model of pulmonary Cryptococcus neoformans infection.

Med Microbiol Immunol

February 2023

NHC Key Laboratory of Antibody Technique, Jiangsu Province Engineering Research Center of Antibody Drug, Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Pathogen Biology, Department of Immunology, Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing, 211166, Jiangsu, China.

It has been reported that IL-33 receptor ST2 deficiency mitigates Cryptococcus neoformans (C. neoformans) pulmonary infection in BALB/c mice. IL-33 may modulate immune responses in ST2-dependent and ST2-independent manners.

As a cellular protease, transmembrane serine protease 2 (TMPRSS2) plays roles in various physiological and pathological processes, including cancer and viral entry, such as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Herein, we conducted expression, mutation, and prognostic analyses for the gene in pan-cancers as well as in COVID-19-infected lung tissues. The results indicate that TMPRSS2 expression was highest in prostate cancer.

Background: Ambient fine particulate matter (PM) exposure increases local and systemic interleukin-6 (IL-6). However, the pathogenic role of IL-6 signalling following PM exposure, particularly in the development of pulmonary dysfunction and abnormal glucose homeostasis, has hardly been investigated.

Results: In the study, IL-6 receptor (IL-6R)-deficient (IL-6R) and wildtype littermate (IL-6R) mice were exposed to concentrated ambient PM (CAP) or filtered air (FA), and their pulmonary and metabolic responses to these exposures were analyzed.

Background: Skin cutaneous melanoma (SKCM) is the most frequently encountered tumor of the skin. Immunotherapy has opened a new horizon in melanoma treatment. We aimed to construct a CD8 T cell-associated immune gene prognostic model (CDIGPM) for SKCM and unravel the immunologic features and the benefits of immunotherapy in CDIGPM-defined SKCM groups.

Objectives: Nursing factors have been found to be associated with a reduction in readmission rates. Nevertheless, few attentions have been given to the effect of nursing factors on nursing home (NH) residents. This study was to assess the impact of nursing factors on the hospital readmissions and length of stay (LOS) of the elderly residents from the NH.

Background: Accurate preoperative diagnosis of post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) is particularly important to improve the prognosis of patients.

Purpose: To evaluate the predictive value of Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for post-hepatectomy liver failure.

Material And Methods: A systematic search was performed in the PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases to find relevant original articles published up to December 2021.

Background: An increasing number of studies have validated the prognostic significance of the controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score in patients with solid tumors. However, the extent of the correlation between the CONUT score and clinical outcomes of patients with hematologic malignancies is unclear.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the prognostic role of the CONUT score in patients with hematologic malignancies.

Background: While many testis-enriched genes have been identified as important regulators of the spermatogenic process, the specific roles played by several of these genes and their functional importance has yet to be fully clarified.

Methods: We employed a CRISPR/Cas9 approach to introduce a 5 bp in-frame deletion within the Spdye4a gene (Exon 2) of C57BL/6 mice (Spdye4a). Fertility and sperm counts were evaluated.

Background: Many studies have sought associations between the total peripheral blood lymphocyte count and prostate cancer (PCa) prognosis, but not peripheral lymphocyte subsets. We explored the associations between the absolute counts of peripheral lymphocyte subsets and PCa patient survival.

Methods: 135 PCa patients were included in this study.

To detect the methylation status of the cell fate determinant (DACH1) gene in esophageal cancer tissues and to explore the predictive value of methylation of DACH1 on the sensitivity to radiotherapy for esophageal cancer. Cancer tissues, corresponding paracancerous tissues, and 30 specimens of normal esophageal mucosal tissues from 70 patients admitted to the hospital after radical esophageal cancer radiotherapy from January 2016 to April 2017 were collected. The methylation status of DACH1 was detected by a methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction (MSP).

Background: Endometrial cancer is one of the most common gynecological tumors in developed countries. Our understanding of the pathogenesis of endometrial cancer and the changes in the immune microenvironment are still unclear. It is necessary to explore new biomarkers to guide the diagnosis and treatment of endometrial cancer.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignancies worldwide, leading to a large number of cancer-related mortalities. Aberrant CD8+ T cell infiltration plays a critical role in tumor progression and patient prognosis. This study aimed to identify a prognostic model for CRC based on CD8+ T cell-related genes.

The regulation of ISG20 expression on SARS-CoV-2 infection in cancer patients and healthy individuals.

Front Immunol

October 2022

Key Laboratory of Epigenetics and Oncology, The Research Center for Preclinical Medicine, Southwest Medical University, Luzhou, China.

ISG20 inhibits viruses such as SARS-CoV-2 invasion; however, details of its expression and regulation with viral susceptibility remain to be elucidated. The present study analyzed ISG20 expression, isoform information, survival rate, methylation patterns, immune cell infiltration, and COVID-19 outcomes in healthy and cancerous individuals. Cordycepin (CD) and N6, N6-dimethyladenosine (m A) were used to treat cancer cells for ISG20 expression.

Increased expression of secreted frizzled related protein 3 (SFRP3) is associated with adverse outcomes of heart failure. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of SFRP3 on cardiac remodeling and its mechanism. Cardiac remodeling was induced by angiotensin II (Ang II) infusion in the mice, and in the neonatal rat cardiomyocytes (NRCM) treated with Ang II.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a highly cancerous and aggressive hematologic disease with elevated levels of drug resistance and relapse resulting in high mortality. Recently, bromodomains and extra-terminal (BET) protein inhibitors have been extensively researched in hematological tumors as potential anticancer agents. MZ1 is a novel BET inhibitor that mediates selective proteins degradation and suppression of tumor growth through proteolysis-targeting chimeras (PROTAC) technology.

China, as the one of the largest developing countries in the world and with about one-fifth of the global population, is bearing an increasing burden on health from cancer. In the area of esophageal cancer (EC), China accounts for more than 50% of the global cases, with this disease being a particularly worse for those in disadvantaged populations. Along with China's socioeconomic condition, the epidemiology, diagnosis, therapeutics and research of EC have developed throughout the 21st century.

GINS complex subunit 2 (GINS2) regulates the migration, invasion, and growth of cells in many malignant and chronic diseases. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the expression of GINS2 in the peripheral blood and nucleus pulposus (NP) cells of patients with intervertebral disk degeneration (IDD). GINS2 expression was detected using bioinformatics tools from the GEO public repository and validated using peripheral blood samples from IDD patients and healthy participants.

Resistance remains an obstacle to anti-programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) therapy in human cancer. One critical resistance mechanism is the lack of T cell chemotaxis in the tumor microenvironment (TME). CXCL10-CXCR3 signaling is required for T cell tumor infiltration and tumor immunotherapy.
