Background: With the continuous progress and in-depth implementation of the reform of the medical and health care system, alongside the gradual enhancement of the standardized training framework for residents, such training has become a crucial avenue for cultivating high-level clinicians and improving medical quality. However, due to various constraints and limitations in their own capabilities, residents undergoing standardized training are often susceptible to job burnout during this process. Numerous factors contribute to job burnout, which is closely associated with depression and anxiety.

Introduction: The Oxidative Balance Score (OBS) represents an integrated measure of oxidative-reductive homeostasis. Despite the established role of oxidative stress in the development of post-stroke depression (PSD), the association between OBS and PSD in the general population remains unclear. This study aims to explore this relationship using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning 2005-2018.

To analyze the clinical characteristics of HBeAg-negative chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in indeterminate phase with a low viral load. One hundred and thirty-nine cases with persistent normal alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and HBeAg-negative chronic HBV infection with low viral load who visited the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Affiliated Hospital of Yan'an University from September 2013 to July 2021 were retrospectively collected. Patients were divided into low hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) group (=59) and high HBsAg group (=80) according to the baseline hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) level.

Background: According to statistics, colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) ranks third in global incidence and second in mortality. The role of N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification-dependent ferroptosis in tumor development and progression is gaining attention. Therefore, it is meaningful to explore the biological functions mediated by m6A ferroptosis related genes (m6A-Ferr-RGs) in the prognosis and treatment of COAD.

Protective effects of a probiotic-fermented germinated grain complex on neurotransmitters and sleep quality in sleep-deprived mice.

Front Microbiol

July 2024

Yan'an Key Laboratory of Microbial Drug Innovation and Transformation, School of Basic Medicine, Yan'an University, Yan'an, China.

Objective: To explore the effects of probiotic fermentation products of germinated grains on cognitive and sleep improvement in mice with sleep deprivation induced by chlorophenylalanine (PCPA), and to provide theoretical and experimental basis for the development of natural products to alleviate insomnia.

Methods: ELISA and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) were used to determine the contents of γ-aminobutyric acid and L-theanine in fermentation products. Open Field Test was used to analyze the changes of emotional behavior between groups before and after intervention.

Leucine-rich repeat-containing 8A (LRRC8A) is a key component of the volume-regulated anion channel (VRAC) that influences essential homeostatic processes in various immune cells. These processes include the regulation of cell volume and membrane potential and the facilitation of the transport of organic agents used as anticancer drugs and immune-stimulating factors. Therefore, understanding the structure-function relationship of LRRC8A, exploring its physiological role in immunity, assessing its efficacy in treating diseases, and advancing the development of compounds that regulate its activity are important research frontiers.

  • This study explores how the timing of meals affects sleep quality, using data from 7,023 participants from NHANES between 2005-2008.
  • Analyzing meal timing through methods like the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the research found that eating later and having more meals correlates with poorer sleep quality.
  • The results indicate that later meal times and increased meal frequency negatively impact sleep, suggesting a link between meal timing and sleep health.

In recent years, more and more researches on cell death mode in breast cancer, including apoptosis, ferroptosis, etc. Ferroptosisis a regulated form of cell death characterized by iron-dependent accumulation of lipid peroxidation to lethal levels, and numerous studies have shown that ferroptosis is closely associated with tumor cells. Breast cancer is one of the malignant tumors with the highest incidence in women, and TNBC accounts for about 15-20% of all types of breast cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the connection between diet-induced inflammation, measured by the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII), and a heart failure biomarker (NT-proBNP) in a large population from NHANES (1999-2004).
  • Results showed that an increase in DII correlates with higher NT-proBNP levels, especially significant in individuals without heart failure and those aged 50-75.
  • The findings suggest that dietary choices may play a critical role in heart health, particularly in specific demographic groups such as older adults and those with pre-existing conditions like hypertension and diabetes.
