Contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) and gadoxetic acid-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (EOB-MRI) were compared with respect to diagnostic efficacy in the detection of small hepatocellular carcinoma. A new diagnostic strategy that combines the arterial phase of CEUS, the hepatobiliary phase of EOB-MRI and diffusion-weighted MR imaging (DWI) is described. One hundred sixteen nodules were enrolled to validate the performance of the strategy.

Subsequent to conducting the Chromosome-Centric Human Proteome Project, we have focused on human testis-enriched missing proteins (MPs) since 2015. For protein coverage to be enhanced, a multiprotease strategy was used for separation of samples by 10% SDS-PAGE. For the separating efficiency to be improved, a high-pH reverse phase (RP) separation strategy was applied to fractionate complex samples in this study.

As a dioxygenase, Ten-Eleven Translocation 2 (TET2) catalyzes subsequent steps of 5-methylcytosine (5mC) oxidation. TET2 plays a critical role in the self-renewal, proliferation, and differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells, but its impact on mature hematopoietic cells is not well-characterized. Here we show that Tet2 plays an essential role in osteoclastogenesis.

Aims: Thermal ablation can evoke an immune response, which may have effects on the prognosis of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Our aim is to investigate the changes of circulating T-cell subsets after microwave ablation (MWA) and to explore the risk factors of tumor recurrence in patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related HCC.
Methods: Thirty patients with HBV-related HCC were enrolled in this study.

Pyruvate kinase type M2, which is expressed in multiple tumor cell types and plays a key role in aerobic glycolysis, also has nonglycolytic functions and can regulate transcription and cell proliferation. The results of this study show that epidermal growth factor receptor activation induces pyruvate kinase type M2 nuclear translocation. To further determine the relationship between pyruvate kinase type M2 and epidermal growth factor receptor, we analyzed pathological data from mammary glands and performed epidermal growth factor receptor/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 knockdown to reveal that pyruvate kinase type M2 is associated with epidermal growth factor receptor and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2.

TET2 is a methylcytosine dioxygenase that regulates cytosine hydroxymethylation. Although there are extensive data implicating a pivotal role of TET2 in hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSPCs), the importance of TET2 in bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells (BMSCs) remains unknown. In this study, we show that loss of TET2 in BMSCs increases cell proliferation and self-renewal and enhances osteoblast differentiation potential of BMSCs, which may in turn alter their behavior in supporting HSPC proliferation and differentiation.

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effect of ADM gene mediated by plasmid pVAX1 on cerebral vasospasm (CVS) after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). MATERIAL AND METHODS The recombinant plasmid pVAX-ADM was successfully established, and 40 SD rats were randomly divided into normal saline, pVAX1, pVAX1-ADM low-dose, pVAX1-ADM mid-dose, and pVAX1-ADM high-dose groups. The circumference and diameter of basilar artery, diameter of middle cerebral artery and internal carotid artery, and thickness of basilar artery wall were observed.

BACKGROUND The performance of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) have been proved to vary according to the races of the target population. The eGFR equations have not been validated in the Chinese cancer population received chemotherapy. Meanwhile, serum cystatin C (CysC), urea, β2 microglobulin (β2-MG), and creatinine (SCr) were also evaluated in a cohort of Chinese cancer patients.

Mucus is a viscoelastic and adhesive obstacle which protects vaginas, eyes and other mucosal surfaces against foreign pathogens. Numerous diseases that affect the mucosa could be afforded prophylactic and therapeutic treatments with fewer systemic side effects if drugs and genes could be sufficiently delivered to the target mucosal tissues. But drugs and genes are trapped effectively like other pathogens and rapidly removed by mucus clearance mechanism.

Background: Although tunneled cuffed catheters (TCCs) are widely used in hemodialysis, little is known about their complications in elderly patients with hemodialysis. Furthermore, there is no report about which vessel access, either jugular or iliac vein, is superior for elderly patients requiring TCCs.
Methods: In the present study, we reviewed the clinical parameters of 127 patients aged over 65 years with 207 new TCC placements and measured the incidence of catheter patency, infection, dysfunction, and survival of TCCs.

Background: It is well known that a significant number of prostate cancers (PCa) showed different extents of radio-resistance and the tumor may recur after treatment. Recent studies demonstrated that Testicular orphan nuclear receptor 4 (TR4) could play a critical role in anti-oxidative stress responses and might modulate the DNA damage repair. The objective of this study is to investigate the role of TR4 in the radiotherapy for PCa.

Objectives: To develop an "overlap syndrome (OS)" rat model by intermittent hypoxia (IH) exposure on the base of pre-existing emphysema, and to explore whether "OS" exposure results in more severe systemic inflammation, and whether the inflammation changes levels of coagulant/anticoagulant factors and oxidative stress status.
Methods: Sixty Wistar rats were put into 4 groups: Control group; IH group, IH exposure; Emphysema group, smoke exposure; Overlap group, smoke exposure and IH exposure. We obtained peripheral blood for apoptosis of CD3(+)CD4(+), CD3(+)CD8(+) T lymphocytes and neutrophils, and for endothelial progenitor cell (EPC) counts.

The development of novel cancer therapeutics is often plagued by discrepancies between drug efficacies obtained in preclinical studies and outcomes of clinical trials. The inconsistencies can be attributed to a lack of clinical relevance of the cancer models used for drug testing. While commonly used in vitro culture systems are advantageous for addressing specific experimental questions, they are often gross, fidelity-lacking simplifications that largely ignore the heterogeneity of cancers as well as the complexity of the tumor microenvironment.
