Objectives: This study aims to trace the dynamic lung changes of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) using computed tomography (CT) images by a quantitative method.

Methods: In this retrospective study, 28 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 145 CT scans are collected. The lesions are detected automatically and the parameters including lesion volume (LeV/mL), lesion percentage to lung volume (LeV%), mean lesion density (MLeD/HU), low attenuation area lower than - 400HU (LAA-400%), and lesion weight (LM/mL*HU) are computed for quantification.

November 2020

Department of Cardiac Surgery, The First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University, Xiamen 361003, China; Department of Clinical Medicine, Fujian Medical University, Fuzhou 350100, China. Electronic address:

Recent studies reported that advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) were involved in the calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD). However, the roles of AGEs in EndMT in the development of CAVD have not been elucidated. In this study, six-week-old male Apoe mice were divided into four groups based on the following feeding periods: 0, 2, 4, and 6 months.

Objective: To study the effects of rutin on serum glucose and lipid levels in hyperglycemic rats.

Methods: Male Wistar rats were subjected to intraperitoneal streptozotocin injections and a high-sugar, high-fat diet to establish a hyperglycemic and hyperlipidemic model. The model was considered to be successfully established in rats with fasting blood sugar (FBS) ≥ 11.

The TCM protocol in the Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol for corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) (Trial Version 7) has been updated from previous versions. The protocol was formulated under the direct leadership of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, based on the experience of a panel of experts, supported by evidence from fever clinics and from the outcomes of emergency (EM) observation rooms and inpatients throughout China (especially in Wuhan, Hubei Province) in combination with the latest scientific research results and data. The present interpretation of the TCM protocol is based on an overall understanding of the revised content, and aims to guide and standardize its clinical application to provide a reference for clinicians.

Osteoporosis is a major public health problem that is associated with high morbidity and mortality, and its prevalence is increasing as the world's population ages. Therefore, understanding the molecular basis of the disease is becoming a high priority. In this regard, studies have shown that an imbalance in adipogenic and osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) is associated with osteoporosis.

Background Aims: The pro-regeneration capabilities of olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) remain controversial. However, little is known regarding whether the transplantation of activated OECs by curcumin (CCM) elicits neural regeneration and functional recovery after spinal cord injury (SCI) in rats, and the possible molecular mechanisms have never been investigated.

Methods: Primary OECs were treated with 1μM CCM for 1-3 days.

Background: Recently, a Japanese study investigated the relationship between insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) gene rs2195239 polymorphism and gastric cancer (GC) risk and found rs2195239 polymorphism did not relate with the risk of GC. However, no Chinese studies have addressed this relationship until now. Thus, the aims of this study were to demonstrate whether IGF-1 gene rs2195239 polymorphism was linked with the risk and clinical features of GC in a Chinese Han population.

BACKGROUND Compound porcine cerebroside and ganglioside injection (CPCGI) has been widely applied in clinical practice in China to treat functional confusion caused by brain diseases. Sevoflurane, a frequently-used inhalational anesthetic, was discovered to have neurotoxicity that can cause neurological damage in patients. The present study was performed to investigate the protective effect of CPCGI on sevoflurane-induced nerve damage and to reveal the neuroprotective mechanisms of CPCGI.

Background: Increasing evidence shows that gastrulation brain homeobox 2 (GBX2) is involved in multiple cancers. However, whether GBX2 has an effect on the lung adenocarcinoma remains unclear. In the present study, we investigated the functions of GBX2 on lung adenocarcinoma and explored the underlying mechanism.
