Introduction: This research aimed to explore the determinants of cervical HPV infection and evaluate how cervical cancer screening outcomes influence sexual functioning and anxiety among women across three provinces in China.

Methods: Study participants were categorized into HPV-positive or HPV-negative groups, after which they completed the General Characteristics Questionnaire and the SAS Anxiety Scale. The HPV-positive cohort was further divided into four subgroups: Subgroup 1 consisted of individuals with HPV types 16 or 18 but no cytological abnormalities.

Department of Cardiology, Shenzhen Cardiovascular Minimally Invasive Medical Engineering Technology Research and Development Center, Shenzhen People's Hospital (The Second Clinical Medical College, Jinan University; The First Affiliated Hospital, Southern University of Science and Technology), Shenzhen, 518020, Guangdong, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines how the severity of Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) affects the progression of frailty in middle-aged and elderly people in China, highlighting that the traditional binary diagnosis of MetS is insufficient for evaluating its severity.
  • Researchers utilized data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) and created a frailty index based on 32 health factors to analyze the relationship between MetS scores and frailty risk over time.
  • Findings reveal that higher MetS scores significantly increase the risk of developing frailty and accelerate frailty progression, demonstrating a clear dose-response relationship between MetS severity and frailty outcomes.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) represent a groundbreaking approach to cancer therapy. Inflammatory markers such as the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) have emerged as potential indicators strongly associated with tumor prognosis, albeit their prognostic significance remains contentious. The predictive value of NLR, PLR, LMR in patients with gastric cancer (GC) treated with ICIs has not been fully explored; therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis to examine the potential of inflammatory markers NLR, PLR, and LMR as survival predictors in this population.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the controversial link between obesity and depressive symptoms, focusing on the Weight-adjusted Waist Index (WWI) as a better measure of central obesity compared to Body Mass Index (BMI).
  • Conducted over nine years with 6,835 participants aged 45 and older, it found that higher WWI was associated with increased depressive symptoms, while BMI's negative association faded over time.
  • The results suggest that WWI may provide better insights into how obesity impacts mental health, indicating a potential shift in how we assess obesity's effects on depression.

Understanding the Roles of Non-coding RNAs and Exosomal Non-Coding RNAs in Diabetic Nephropathy.

Curr Mol Med

April 2024

Department of Biochemistry and Nutrition, Research Center for Evidence-Based Health Management, Maragheh University of Medical Science, Maragheh, Iran.

One of the greatest serious side effects of diabetes is diabetic nephropathy (DN), which is also the key factor in the sometimes-deadly diabetic end-stage renal disease. Progressive renal interstitial fibrosis is closely associated with oxidative stress, and the extracellular matrix is typically a feature of DN. Some RNAs formed by genome transcription that are not translated into proteins are recognized as noncoding RNAs.

Purpose: This study aims to explore the clinical value of autogenous tibial periosteal bone grafting in the treatment of osteochondral lesions of the talus (OLT) and analyze the three-dimensional factors in the necrotic zone of the talus.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on 36 patients who underwent autogenous tibial periosteal bone grafting in the Foot and Ankle Surgery Department of our hospital between September 2018 and September 2022. The American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and Chinese Short-Form 36 Health Survey (SF-36) were used to evaluate treatment efficacy prior to surgery and at the last follow-up.

Observational studies have suggested that there may be a connection between systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and a higher likelihood of developing urological cancers, although the exact cause-effect relationship is still unclear. This study therefore investigated the causal relationship between SLE and urological cancers using the Mendelian randomization (MR) approach. Our primary MR analysis involved using the inverse variance weighted method, which employed an inverse-variance-weighted approach, to examine the causal relationship between SLE and urological conditions.

Kawasaki disease (KD), an acute exanthematous febrile pediatric illness involving systemic non-specific inflammatory reactions in small- and medium-sized arteries, poses a significant risk of coronary artery and myocardial inflammatory injury. Developing new KD treatments with improved safety and fewer side-effects is highly desirable. Forsythoside B (FTS-B), extracted from the Forsythia suspensa plant, exerts anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting NF-κB, which is regulated by SIRT1, the reduced expression of which is strongly associated with cardiovascular disease.

National Key Laboratory of Quality Assurance and Sustainable Utilization of Authentic Medicinal Materials, Chinese Medicine Resource Center, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Beijing, 100700, China; Department of Encephalopathy, Affiliated Hospital of Shaanxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Xianyang 712000, China. Electronic address:

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Parkinson's disease (PD) is the most common progressive neurodegenerative disorder affecting more than 10 million people worldwide and is characterized by the progressive loss of Daergic (DA) neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta. It has been reported that signaling pathways play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of PD, while the active ingredients of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) have been found to possess a protective effect against PD. TCM has demonstrated significant potential in mitigating oxidative stress (OS), neuroinflammation, and apoptosis of DA neurons via the regulation of signaling pathways associated with PD.
