Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on improving the process of meniscal allograft transplantation by enhancing the construction and fixation of the bone bridge and tibial plateau using arthroscopy.
  • It introduced the use of strategically placed traction lines to effectively pull and secure the meniscus, along with a guide device for accurately creating a bone tunnel on the tibial plateau.
  • These refined surgical techniques aim to standardize the transplantation process, reduce surgical errors, and ultimately enhance the stability of the meniscus while minimizing risks during the procedure.

The populations most afflicted by burn injuries have limited abilities to support the significant specialized requirements and costs for acute and long-term burn injury care. This article describes the results of optimizing the use of readily absorbed small molecular weight soybean protein enzymolysis-derived peptide to attenuate rat burn injury-induced inflammation and accelerate wound healing. A major full-thickness 30% total body surface area burn-injury rat model was utilized and the systemic white blood cell (WBC) counts, the relative level of stimulation index of respiratory burst, and the inflammatory markers procalcitonin (PCT), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 3 (CCL-3), chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 11 (CCL-11) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) were assessed.

The renin-angiotensin system (RAS) is an ever-evolving endocrine system with considerable checks and balances on the production and catabolism of angiotensin peptides most likely due to the manifold effects of angiotensins. We aimed to explore the effects of different inhibitors of RAS on blood pressure and expression of inflammatory factors in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). We initially searched PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Library electronic databases with nine eligible randomized controlled trials enrolled.

The protective effect of electroacupuncture (EA) at Zusanli points (ST36) on myocardial injury in a model of sepsis was observed. Forty-eight male Sprague-Daley rats were subjected to sepsis by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) and randomly divided into 4 groups (n=12; A: sepsis + EA; B: sepsis + sham acupuncture; C: sepsis + vagotomy; D: sepsis + vagotomy + EA). Bilateral points were stimulated (2mA, 2-100 Hz) for 1 hour.

To observe the effects of minimally invasive tangential excision in treating deep partial-thickness burn wounds on trunk and limbs in pediatric patients in the early stage post burn. Clinical data of 40 children with deep partial-thickness burn wounds on trunk and limbs, admitted to our burn ward from January 2016 to June 2017, conforming to the study criteria, were retrospectively analyzed. They were divided into conventional treatment group (CT, =19) and minimally invasive tangential excision group (MITE, =21) according to the different treatments.

Cryptococcosis is a life-threatening mycosis primarily occurring in adult patients particularly those with immunosuppression such as HIV infection/AIDS. The number of reported cases of paediatric cryptococcosis has increased in the last decade around the world, including China. However, current information on the characteristics of cryptococcosis in children, particularly the genotypic diversity and antifungal susceptibility of the isolates, is limited.

Background: The ratio of target cfDNA in total plasma is low. The abundant gDNA background resulting from blood cell lysis caused by improper operation has become a major obstacle to accurately measure cfDNA. In this study, we investigated the storage capacity of three blood cell collection tubes (BCTs) in the prevention of genomic DNA contamination caused by white blood cell rupture and evaluated their performance when they were utilized combining with highly sensitive mutation detection technology.

Chemical conversion of human and mouse fibroblasts into motor neurons.

Sci China Life Sci

October 2018

Cell Biology and Tissue Repair Laboratory, Key Laboratory of Wound Repair and Regeneration of PLA, First Affiliated Hospital of PLA General Hospital, Beijing, 100048, China.

Transplantation of motor neurons can provide long-term functional benefits in animal models of neurodegenerative motor neuron diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and traumatic spinal cord injury. Although embryonic stem cells can differentiate into motor neurons, alternative sources of motor neurons may be controllable for disease modeling and transplantation. Here, we show that human and mouse fibroblasts can be efficiently and directly converted into motor neurons by a cocktail of five small molecules, without the involvement of the neural progenitor stage.
