Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) ranks as the fourth most common cause of mortality globally among all cancer types. Programmed cell death (PCD) is a crucial biological mechanism governing cancer progression, tumor expansion, and metastatic dissemination. Furthermore, the tumor microenvironment (TME) is critical in influencing overall survival (OS) and immune responses to immunotherapeutic interventions.

Introduction: House dust mite is the primary trigger of allergic respiratory diseases worldwide, and allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) is the only disease-modifying treatment in the clinic. The use of allergen molecules instead of extracts is a promising strategy in AIT. In this study, we constructed a peptide hybrid vaccine against the major mite allergen Der f 35 and verified its hypoallergenicity, making it to be a promising candidate for AIT of mite allergy.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the possible mechanisms by which ANGPTL4 is involved in the pathogenesis of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) and subretinal fibrosis.
Methods: Differentially expressed genes in retinal pigmented epithelium (RPE)-choroid-sclera complex tissues from nAMD patients and control individuals were identified via the GEO database, followed by GO and KEGG analyses. A Venn diagram was used to identify EndMT-related DEGs.

Cryptorchidism is one of the most common congenital malformations in the paediatric genitourinary tract. Data analysis of cryptorchidism-related datasets in the GEO database and gene sequencing results from our institution, along with bioinformatic analysis of the merged mitochondrial gene datasets, revealed that COX5B is differentially expressed in the testes of children with cryptorchidism. Its encoded protein has attracted our attention as a key component of the mitochondrial respiratory chain complex IV.

Andrographolide (AGP), a bioactive diterpene lactone, is an active constituent extracted from Andrographis paniculata. It has many biological activities, such as antioxidant, antitumor, antivirus, anti-inflammation, hepatoprotection, and cardioprotection. The aim of the present study is to investigate the cardioprotective effects of AGP in a mouse model of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI).

Sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (AKI) has high morbidity and mortality, but without cause-specific treatment. Erythropoietin derived Helix B surface peptide (HBSP) alleviates AKI, whereas its underlying mechanisms remain to be further explored. Here, the effects of HBSP on pyroptosis, apoptosis, macrophage polarization and repair were investigated in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced AKI mouse model and cultured kidney epithelial cells.

Gastric cancer (GC) is a prevalent malignancy of the digestive system. E74-like factor 1 (ELF1) is a transcription factor that is specific to T cells and belongs to the Ets family. They are typically expressed in numerous tumor cells, such as pancreatic cancer, oral squamous cell, endometrial carcinoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma and prostate and colorectal cancer, where they can promote cell invasion and migration.

Background: SLC35F6 negatively regulates outer mitochondrial membrane permeability and positively regulates apoptotic signaling pathways and cell population proliferation. The biological function of SLC35F6 in bladder cancer (BC) remains inadequately established. This study evaluates the expression and clinical significance of SLC35F6 in BC, assesses its prognostic value and explores its relationship with key immune-related molecules in the tumor microenvironment.

Background: China faces the highest burden of latent multidrug-resistant or rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis (MDR/RR-TB). We aim to evaluate the health and economic impacts of Vaccae (a novel TB vaccine) and enhanced drug-resistant TB (DR-TB) management strategies.
Methods: Using a compartmental model calibrated with national TB data, we evaluated nine interventions from 2025-2050: enhanced DR-TB management (S1); Vaccae vaccination for those with Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection targeting specific age groups (S2: adolescents, S3: adolescents and young adults, S4: working-age adults, S5: elderly); and combined strategies (S6: S2+S1, S7: S3+S1, S8: S4+S1, S9: S5+S1).

Single-port laparoscopic technology has become increasingly more popular in China as economic levels and medical technology have both improved. The advantages of single-port laparoscopic technology, such as less surgical trauma, quick recovery and less postoperative skin scarring, have been unanimously recognized and appreciated by patients. However, this technology has not been developed in Africa, which has relatively limited medical and surgical resources.

Accumulating evidence has shown that tRNA-derived small RNAs (tsRNAs) play crucial roles in malignant tumor development. However, whether serum tsRNAs can act as potential biological markers for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are still largely unknown. In the current study, a novel tsRNA, namely tsRNA-Thr-5-0015, was prominently elevated in the sera of HCC patients than that of hepatitis cases and healthy check-ups, and it was related with TNM stage and lymphatic metastasis of HCC patients.

Background: The effect of embolization of the middle meningeal artery in patients with subacute or chronic subdural hematoma is uncertain.
Methods: We performed a multicenter, open-label, randomized trial in China, involving patients with symptomatic nonacute subdural hematoma with mass effect. Patients were assigned to undergo burr-hole drainage or receive nonsurgical treatment at the surgeon's discretion, and patients in each group were then randomly assigned, in a 1:1 ratio, to undergo middle meningeal artery embolization with liquid embolic material or to receive usual care.

Background: Acute pancreatitis (AP), as a common acute abdomen disease, has a high incidence rate worldwide and is often accompanied by severe complications. Negative emotions lead to increased secretion of stress hormones, elevated blood sugar levels, and enhanced insulin resistance, which in turn increases the risk of AP and significantly affects the patient's quality of life. Therefore, exploring the intervention effects of narrative nursing programs on the negative emotions of patients with AP is not only helpful in alleviating psychological stress and improving quality of life but also has significant implications for improving disease outcomes and prognosis.

Background: Neural stem cells (NSCs) are considered to be the most promising cell type for cell replacement therapy in neurodegenerative diseases. However, their low neuronal differentiation ratio impedes their application in such conditions. Elucidating the molecular mechanism of NSC differentiation may provide the necessary experimental basis for expanding their application.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a lethal cancer with a very low 5-year survival rate, which is partially attributed to chemoresistance. Although the regulation of chemoresistance through biochemical signaling is well-documented, the influence of three-dimensional (3D) matrix stiffness is poorly understood. In this study, gelatin methacrylate (GelMA) hydrogels were reconstructed with stiffnesses spanning the range from normal to cancerous PDAC tissues, which are termed as the soft group and stiff group.

Introduction: Endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) is a prominent etiological factor in the pathogenesis of diabetes. Nevertheless, the mechanisms through which ERS contributes to the development of diabetes remain elusive.
Methods: Transcriptional expression profiles from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets were analyzed and compared to obtain the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in T2DM.
