Aim: To investigate the effects of liraglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor activator, on body weight and waist circumference in Chinese overweight and obese type 2 diabetic patients.
Methods: A total of 328 Chinese overweight and obese type 2 diabetic patients were included in this multi-center, open-labeled and self-controlled clinical study. The patients were subcutaneously injected with liraglutide once daily for 24 weeks as add-on therapy to their previous hypoglycemic treatments.

Objective: To study the protective effects of sacral nerve root electrostimulation on intestinal mechanical barrier in rats with spinal cord injury (SCI).
Methods: Fifty six Wistar rats were divided into normal group, SCI control group and SCI group with sacral nerve root electrostimulation (8 rats in each subgroup at 24, 48, 72 h after spinal cord injury). The following experiments were performed respectively in rats from the 3 groups: bacteria culture from intestinal mesentery lymph nodes, liver, spleen, intestinal morphology observation and detection the protein expression level of ZO-1.

Purpose: We intended to examine the underlying mechanism of microRNA-25 (miR-25) in regulating small cell lung cancer (SCLC).
Methods: The miR-25 expression was measured by quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR) in 5 SCLC cell lines and 9 human SCLC tissues. In SCLC cell line H510A cells, endogenous miR-25 was downregulated by stable transfection of antisense oligonucleotide of miR-25 (miR-25-as).

Recent studies have shown that long non‑coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have crucial regulating roles in carcinogenesis. Forkhead box C1 (FOXC1) is an important cancer‑associated gene in basal‑like breast cancer (BLBC). In the present study, a novel lncRNA, FOXC1 promoter upstream transcript (FOXCUT) was investigated in BLBC patients using polymerase chain reaction analysis.

Objective: To investigate the effect of electrical stimulation to sacral spinal nerve 3 (S₃ stimulation) on gastrointestinal dysfunction after spinal cord injury (SCI).
Methods: Six rabbits were taken as normal controls to record their gastrointestinal multipoint biological discharge, colon pressure and rectoanal inhibitory reflex. Electrodes were implanted into S₃ in another 18 rabbits.

Background: Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometry (MS) is emerging as a rapid and accurate tool for identifying pathogens. MALDI-TOF identification of Candida at the species level remains unsatisfactory because of an incomplete commercial database.
Methods: Using Bruker Daltonics MALDI Biotyper software, an in-house spectral database library was created with m/z ratios of 2,000 to 20,000 Da from 60 successfully identified clinical isolates of Candida spp.

Acute lung injury (ALI) and its more severe form, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) are the leading causes of death in critical care. Despite extensive efforts in research and clinical medicine, mortality remains high in these diseases. Perfluorocarbon (PFC), a chemical compound known as liquid ventilation medium, is capable of dissolving large amounts of physiologically important gases (mainly oxygen and carbon dioxide).

Although systematic studies have demonstrated that acupuncture or electroacupuncture (EA) analgesia is based on their accelerating endogenous opioid release to activate opioid receptors and that EA of different frequencies is mediated by different opioid receptors in specific areas of the central nervous system, there is little direct, real-time evidence to confirm this in vivo. The present study was designed to investigate the effects of transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS), an analogue of EA, at low and high frequencies on μ-opioid receptor (MOR) availability in the brain of rhesus monkeys. Monkeys underwent 95-min positron emission tomography (PET) with (11) C-carfentanil three times randomly while receiving 0, 2, or 100 Hz TEAS, respectively.

Background: TIAM2, a Rac guanine nucleotide exchange factor, is closely associated with cell adherence and migration. Here, we aimed to investigate the role of TIAM2 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells.
Materials And Methods: A small interference RNA (siRNA) was introduced to silence the expression of TIAM2.

Objective: To verify the effect of bloodletting therapy at Jing-well points and semen coicis on patients with traumatic cerebral infarction.
Methods: Ninety patients were randomized into a bloodletting therapy at Jing-well points group (bloodletting group), a semen coicis group and a comprehensive therapy group, 30 cases in each one. The conventional basic medication was applied in all of the three groups.

The increasing incidence of hospital acquired infections caused by antibiotic resistant pathogens has led to an increase in morbidity and mortality, finding alternative antibiotics unaffected by resistance mechanisms is fundamentally important for treating this problem. Naturally occurring proteins usually carry short peptide fragments that exhibit noticeable biological activity against a wide variety of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and protozoa. Traditional discovery of such antimicrobially active fragments (i.
