Renal clear cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is a common parenchymal tumor of the kidney, and the discovery of biomarkers for early and effective diagnosis of ccRCC can improve the early diagnosis of patients and thus improve long-term survival. Erb-b2 receptor tyrosine kinase 2 (ERBB2) mediates the processes of cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis inhibition. The purpose of this study was to investigate the diagnostic and prognostic role of ERBB2 in ccRCC.

Background: Glioma stands as the most prevalent primary brain tumor found within the central nervous system, characterized by high invasiveness and treatment resistance. Although immunotherapy has shown potential in various tumors, it still faces challenges in gliomas. This study seeks to develop and validate a prognostic model for glioma based on immune-related genes, to provide new tools for precision medicine.

Article Synopsis
  • Psoriasis, an autoimmune disease, shows variations influenced by season and geography, highlighting the importance of studying double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) levels in relation to climate.
  • A study from 2016 to 2020 analyzed 10,110 psoriasis patients across different regions in China, focusing on how serum dsDNA levels differed by season and latitude.
  • Results indicated higher serum dsDNA levels in Northern and medium-latitude regions, during winter compared to summer, and emphasized the impact of factors like UV exposure, humidity, and age on dsDNA concentrations.

There is a paucity of data on acute radial artery (RA) injuries using optical coherence tomography (OCT) in patients undergoing coronary intervention via distal transradial coronary access (dTRA). To evaluate the incidence of acute RA injury following dTRA for coronary intervention using OCT. We retrospectively analyzed 200 consecutive patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) who underwent coronary intervention guided by OCT and RA-OCT after dTRA at our center between June 2021 and November 2022.

Background: Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most common malignancies in women. Exosomes are widely found in body fluids and carry microRNAs (miRNAs) that reflect the biological properties of the parental cells. Our study aimed to investigate the differential expression of miR-200c in BC serum exosomes and its diagnostic value.

Article Synopsis
  • Host microbes like Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) are becoming recognized as important factors in cancer, but their specific roles, especially in breast cancer, are not fully understood.
  • The study found that S. aureus infection leads to ineffective DNA damage response in breast cells, promoting tumor progression and metastasis through the activation of certain immune pathways.
  • Key findings show that S. aureus triggers receptors in breast cells, which activates the NF-κB p65 pathway, ultimately facilitating breast cancer cell spread and highlighting a connection between bacterial infections and cancer metastasis.

Objectives: Multishell diffusion scanning is limited by low spatial resolution. We sought to improve the resolution of multishell diffusion images through deep learning-based super-resolution reconstruction (SR) and subsequently develop and validate a prediction model for adult-type diffuse glioma, isocitrate dehydrogenase status and grade 2/3 tumors.

Materials And Methods: A simple diffusion model (DTI) and three advanced diffusion models (DKI, MAP, and NODDI) were constructed based on multishell diffusion scanning.

According to the diagnostic criteria for human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8)-negative/idiopathic multicentric Castleman disease (iMCD) proposed by Castleman Disease Collaborative Network in 2017, there is a group of HHV-8-negative patients with multicentric Castleman disease (MCD) who do not have symptoms and hyperinflammatory state and do not meet the iMCD criteria. This retrospective study enrolled 114 such patients, described as asymptomatic MCD (aMCD), from 26 Chinese centers from 2000 to 2021. With a median follow-up time of 46.

Article Synopsis
  • The study developed and validated a new patient-reported scale, the Five-Dimensional Comprehensive Assessment Scale (5DCAS), specifically for assessing physical function and health in patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA).
  • After a thorough process involving patient surveys and expert consensus, the scale was refined from an initial 135 items down to 25 items across five dimensions, demonstrating strong reliability and validity.
  • The 5DCAS shows significant relationships with existing measures of health and disease activity, though further validation in clinical settings is recommended for broader application.

Background: Osteosarcoma (OS) is a common malignancy among adolescents and children, characterized by a high propensity for metastasis and resistance to chemotherapy.

Aims: This study aimed to investigate the role of COL12A1, a gene often overexpressed in various cancers and associated with poor prognosis, in the progression of OS and explore the underlying mechanisms.

Methods: The expression pattern and potential function of COL12A1 in OS were evaluated using bioinformatics analyses, clinical sample examination, and OS cell lines.

Acalabrutinib is a highly selective Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitor approved in the United States and Europe for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) based on phase 3 trials with limited representation of Asian populations. This phase 1/2 trial evaluates acalabrutinib in Chinese adults with relapsed/refractory (R/R) CLL receiving acalabrutinib 100 mg twice daily in 28-day cycles until disease progression or treatment discontinuation due to adverse events (AEs) presenting substantial clinical risk. The primary endpoint was blinded independent central review (BICR)-assessed overall response rate (ORR).

Article Synopsis
  • * Methods: Researchers analyzed data from 330 ACS patients who had primary PCI, measuring their serum cystatin C levels prior to the procedure and tracking MACE occurrences during follow-ups.
  • * Results: Out of the 330 patients, 121 experienced MACE over an average follow-up of 63 months. The findings showed that serum cystatin C levels were significantly lower in those with MACE, indicating it as an independent risk factor, with a notable U-shaped relationship suggesting varying risk based on cyst

Department of Neurosurgery, Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University, No. 1 Tongdao Street, Huimin District, Hohhot, 010020, Inner Mongolia, China.

Purpose: The existence of glioma stem cells (GSCs) in cancer is related to glioma radiotherapy resistance. In this research, the effect of protein arginine methyltransferase 1 (PRMT1) on the radiosensitivity of glioma stem cell (GSC)-like cells, as well as its underlying mechanism, was investigated.

Methods: GSCs-like cells were analyzed and identified by flow cytometry.

Article Synopsis
  • Glenohumeral subluxation (GHS) is a frequent issue in stroke patients with hemiplegia, affecting 17-81% of individuals, prompting a study to explore the link between shoulder muscle thickness and GHS using ultrasound.
  • A study with 61 stroke patients measured the thickness of the supraspinatus and deltoid muscles, employing logistic regression and ROC analyses to assess data.
  • The findings showed that supraspinatus muscle thickness is a significant indicator of GHS risk, with high statistical validity, suggesting it could guide rehabilitation efforts for affected patients.
