Purpose: Treatment of post-operative pelvic side-wall relapses of cervical cancer has always been a therapeutic challenge for radiation oncologists. Radiation dose boost to recurrent tumor by brachytherapy is necessary, but difficult to achieve. Our treatment center has successfully achieved precise transvaginal insertion of a pelvic side-wall mass, using a metal tube with real-time ultrasound guidance.

Background: Although the research on the risk factors of anterior communicating artery (AComA) aneurysm has made great progress, the independent effect of each risk factor on the rupture of AComA aneurysm is controversial among different studies. We will perform a protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate risk factors for AComA aneurysm rupture and quantify their independent effects.
Methods: A systematic search according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis Protocols guidelines in PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library databases was conducted from inception to August 31, 2021 for published studies concerning risk factors for AComA aneurysm rupture.

Peripheral nerve adhesion after neurolysis leads to nerve dysfunction, limiting nerve regeneration and functional recovery. We previously developed an electrospun polycaprolactone (PCL)-amnion nanofibrous membrane for preventing adhesion formation. In this study, we investigated the effect of protective nerve wrapping and promoting nerve regeneration in a rat sciatic nerve compression model.

Background: A growing body of evidence indicates that abnormal expression of circular RNAs (circRNAs) plays a crucial role by acting as molecular sponges of microRNAs (miRNAs) in various diseases, including cancer. In this study, we explored whether circCCDC85A could function as a miR-550a-5p sponge and influence breast cancer progression.
Methods: We detected the expression of circCCDC85A in breast cancer tissues and cells using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR).

Background: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is typically treated with surgical resection, even in recurrent cases. However, some cases of recurrent PTC are refractory to the conventionally used locoregional radiotherapy and resection methods. I seed permanent brachytherapy has emerged as a promising alternative for such PTCs, but no effective brachytherapy protocol has been reported for tumors with a huge volume, liquefaction, necrosis, and skin invasion.

Studies have shown that COX-2 expression is upregulated in gastric cancer (GC) as well as in precancerous lesions and in Helicobacter pylori-induced inflammation, suggesting that cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) may play an important role in gastric carcinogenesis. We attempted to investigate the role of clarithromycin with tinidazole on Helicobacter pylori-related gastritis from the aspects of clinical effect and COX-2 expression. From January 2016 to January 2019, 130 patients with Helicobacter pylori-related chronic gastritis were collected and grouped into the observation group (OG) and the control group (CG).

Liver failure is a severe liver disease syndrome, with massive or sub-massive liver tissues necrosis, and it develops rapidly, with poor clinical prognosis and high mortality. In recent years, autophagy role in the liver failure has received increasing attention. The study of the role of regulatory mechanism of autophagy is of great significance for the in-depth study of the prevention and treatment of liver failure.

Our previous studies have proved that 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 4 (HSD17B4) is a novel proliferation-promoting protein. The overexpression of HSD17B4 promotes hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cell proliferation. Vitamin K2 (VK2), a fat-soluble vitamin, has the function of promoting coagulation and can inhibit the progression of liver cancer.

Background: The prognosis of obstructive colorectal cancer (oCRC) is worse than that of nonobstructive colorectal cancer. However, no previous study has established an individualized prediction model for the prognosis of patients with oCRC. We aimed to screen the factors that affect the prognosis of oCRC and to use these findings to establish a nomogram model that predicts the individual prognosis of patients with oCRC.

Background: Previous studies have revealed obesity, nutrition, lifestyle, genetic and epigenetic factors may be risk factors for the occurrence and development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, the effect of total polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) consumption on the risk of NAFLD is uncertain. Therefore, this study aimed to determine whether the total PUFA intake is independently associated with the risk of NAFLD and explore the threshold of PUFA intake better illustrate the correlation between them in Chinese Han adults.

Background: Family with sequence similarity 57 member A (FAM57A) is a membrane associated gene contributing to lung carcinogenesis. In hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and other cancers, whether FAM57A exerts similar roles has been rarely reported. Herein, the biological functions and clinical significance of FAM57A in HCC were explored.

Solute Carrier Family 38 Member 1 (SLC38A1) is a principal transporter of glutamine and plays a crucial role in the transformation of neoplastic cells. However, the correlation between SLC38A1 expression, prognosis, and immune infiltration in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has yet to be elucidated. We used two independent patient cohorts, namely, a Genome Atlas (TCGA) cohort and a Clinical Proteomic Tumor Analysis Consortium (CPTAC) cohort, to analyze the role of SLC38A1 in HCC at the mRNA and protein levels, respectively.

Cisplatin (CDDP) is widely used for chemotherapy of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) but the drug resistance limits its therapeutic benefit. Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein U-like 1 (HNRNPUL1) belongs to the family of RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) and is involved in DNA damage repair. To investigate whether and how HNRNPUL1 affects CDDP resistance of ESCC, we evaluated the expression of HNRNPUL1 and found that it was associated with recurrence in ESCC patients receiving postoperative platinum-based chemotherapy and was an independent prognostic factor for disease-free survival (DFS).

Objective: The objective of this prospective randomized study was to compare ulnar nerve decompression and anterior subfascial transposition with versus without supercharged end-to-side anterior interosseous nerve-to-ulnar motor nerve transfer for advanced cubital tunnel syndrome, to describe performing the nerve transfer through a small incision, and to investigate predictive factors for poor recovery following the procedure.
Methods: Between January 2013 and October 2016, 93 patients were randomly allocated to a study group (n = 45) and a control group (n = 48). Patients in the study group were treated with supercharged motor nerve transfer via a 5-cm incision following decompression and anterior subfascial transposition.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) ranks as the sixth most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide, local and systemic therapies are beneficial for those who have more advanced disease or are not suitable for radical treatment. We aim to investigate the clinical outcomes of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) plus sorafenib compared with sorafenib monotherapy for intermediate-advanced HCC.
Methods: A systematic search according to preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses guidelines in the PubMed database was conducted from inception to December 31, 2020 for published studies comparing survival outcomes and tumor response between TACE + sorafenib and sorafenib alone for intermediate-advanced HCC.
