This study evaluated the ability of the triglyceride (TG) to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) ratio to identify individuals at risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in the non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) population. We retrospectively studied 4,769 patients with NAFLD from the Affiliated Hospital of Hangzhou Normal University (2020-2023). Binary logistic regression models were used to evaluate the association between the TG/HDL-C ratio and lipid parameters with T2DM.

Neuroblastoma (NB) is the most common extracranial solid tumor in children. Despite treatment advances, the survival rates of high-risk NB patients remain low. This highlights the urgent need for a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms driving NB progression to support the development of new therapeutic strategies.

Mammalian spermatogenesis is a tightly controlled cellular process including spermatogonial development and differentiation, meiosis of spermatocyte, and the morphological specification of haploid spermatozoa, during which the post-transcriptional gene regulations are vital but poorly understood. Nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD), a highly conserved post-transcriptional regulatory mechanism of gene expression in eukaryotes, recently emerges as a licensing mechanism in cell fate transition, including stem cell differentiation and organogenesis. The function of NMD in spermatogonial development remains elusive.

Introduction: We investigated the neural correlates of cognitive decline in visual word perception from the perspective of intrinsic brain networks.
Methods: A total of 19 healthy older adults and 22 young adults were recruited to participate in two functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) sessions (one resting-state session and one for localizer tasks), along with a visual word perceptual processing task. We examined age-related alterations in resting-state functional connectivity (FC) within the word network, as well as between the word network and other networks.

Recent studies demonstrate that lipid peroxidation-induced ferroptosis participates in 2,2',4,4'-tetrabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-47)-evoked neurotoxicity and cognitive dysfunction. Melatonin has been indicated to confer neuroprotection against brain diseases via its potent anti-ferroptotic effects. Therefore, this study aims to explore whether melatonin can mitigate BDE-47-elicited cognitive impairment via suppressing ferroptosis, and further delineate the underlying mechanisms.

Background: Amide proton transfer weighted (APTw) imaging has demonstrated extensive clinical applications in diagnosing, treating evaluating, and prognosis prediction of breast cancer. There is a pressing need to automatically segment breast lesions on APTw original images to facilitate downstream quantification, which is however challenging.
Purpose: To build a segmentation model on the original images of APTw imaging sequence by leveraging the varying contrasts between breast lesions and their surrounding glandular and fat tissues displayed on the original images of APTw imaging at different frequency offsets.

Background: Lumbar spine injuries and lumbar disc degeneration are common spinal health problems that seriously affect people's quality of life and efficiency at work. Marathon running enhances skeletal muscle strength and endurance, and promotes increased bone mineral density. This study aimed to investigate the effects of marathon running on the lumbar spine and surrounding tissue components.

Brain responses to transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) can be recorded with electroencephalography (EEG) and comprise TMS-evoked potentials and TMS-induced oscillations. Repetitive TMS may entrain endogenous brain oscillations. In turn, ongoing brain oscillations prior to the TMS pulse can influence the effects of the TMS pulse.

Background: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder with different subtypes of pathogenesis. Insufficient research on the subtypes of ADHD has limited the effectiveness of therapeutic methods.
Methods: This study used resting-state functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to record hemodynamic signals in 34 children with ADHD-combined subtype (ADHD-C), 52 children with ADHD-inattentive subtype (ADHD-I), and 24 healthy controls (HCs).

Background: Occupational noise has long been recognized as a significant risk factor for hearing loss, particularly among workers. This study aimed to assess the disease burden of hearing loss caused by occupational noise in China from 1990 to 2019, with a focus on differences across sex and age groups, so as to address the existing gaps in the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) reports. By analyzing changes in years lived with disability (YLDs) among different sex and age groups over the past 30 years, this study provides valuable insights for the development of occupational noise safety measures in China.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the causal relationship between low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and five cancers (breast, cervical, thyroid, prostate and colorectal) using the Mendelian Randomization (MR) method, with a view to revealing the potential role of LDL-C in the development of these cancers.
Methods: We used gene variant data and disease data from the Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS) database to assess the causal relationship between LDL-C and each cancer by Mendelian randomisation analysis methods such as inverse variance weighting and MR-Egger. Specifically, we selected Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) and 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGCR), genes associated with LDL-C levels, as instrumental variables, extracted the corresponding single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) data and analysed the associations of these SNPs with five cancers.

Objective: Resveratrol (Res) is a promising anticancer drug against hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but whether its anti-HCC effects implicate mitophagy remains unclear. Therefore, we aimed to explore the specific role of Res in mitophagy and the related mechanisms during the treatment of HCC.
Methods: HepG2 cells and tumor-grafted nude mice were used to investigate the effects of low-, middle- and high-dose of Res on HCC progression and mitophagy in vitro and in vivo, respectively.

Gastrointestinal region (GI) cancers are closely linked to the ubiquitination system, with the E3 ubiquitin ligase playing a crucial role by targeting various substrates. As E3 ubiquitin ligases, proteins of tripartite motif (TRIM) family play a role in cancer signaling, development, apoptosis, and formation. These proteins regulate diverse biological activities and signaling pathways.

Intestinal barrier injury contributes to multiple diseases such as obesity and diabetes, whereas no treatment options are available. Due to close interactions between mucosal microbiome and intestinal barrier, we evaluated the potential of mucosal bacteria in providing targets for high-fat diet (HFD)-related intestinal barrier injury. Whole-genome metagenomics was used to evaluate mucosal microbiome, while intestinal barrier injury was estimated using serum LPS, FITC-dextran intensity, and ZO-1 protein.

Non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) technology such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) represents a promising treatment for neuropathic pain. However, neural circuitries underlying analgesia remain to be established, which is largely limiting treatment responses. Using TMS and electroencephalogram co-registration (TMS-EEG), this study quantified the circuitry abnormalities in neuropathic pain and their associations with pain symptoms.
