Sinapic acid (SA) is renowned for its many pharmacological activities as a polyphenolic compound. The cause of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a commonly encountered array of metabolic and hormonal abnormalities in females, has yet to be determined. The present experiment was performed to evaluate the antifibrotic properties of SA in rats with letrozole-induced PCOS-related ovarian fibrosis.

Depression is a global public health issue that is widely studied due to the large number of people it affects and its serious consequences. Clinical studies have shown that regular tea consumption may reduce depression risk. (-)-Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), the main tea polyphenol, was observed to alleviate depression, but the underlying mechanism has not been elucidated.

Transition metal coordination complexes have provided cancer treatment with new insights to overcome the limitations of current chemotherapeutic agents. Utilization of bifunctional tetrazole-carboxylate ligands with Zn(ii) obtained two self-assembled complexes [Zn(HL)(bipy)(HO)]·CHOH·4(HO) (1) (HL = 1,3,5-tri(2-carboxymethyltetrazol-5-yl) benzene) and [Zn(L)(HO)]·2HO (2) (HL = (5-pyridin-3-yl-tetrazol-2-yl)-acetic acid). The X-ray diffraction results showed that the two complexes displayed a two-dimensional (2D) layer structure and a one-dimensional (1D) layer structure.

Objective: We aimed to investigate the diagnostic value of color Doppler ultrasound in detecting abnormal blood flow in the fetal umbilical artery (UA), renal artery (RA), and middle cerebral artery (MCA) in order to reduce the incidence of birth defects.
Methods: The clinical records of 186 pregnant women who received color Doppler ultrasound assessment in UA, RA, and MCA were retrospectively analyzed. Of them, 95 normal pregnant women were assigned to the control group, whereas 91 high-risk pregnant women who later gave birth to babies with defects or had poor pregnancy outcomes in late-term were assigned to the study group.

Bladder cancer is a common malignancy in the urinary system. Stromal and immune cells in tumor microenvironments, including those in the bladder cancer microenvironment, can serve as prognostic markers. However, the complex processes of bladder cancer necessitate large-scale evaluation to better understand the underlying mechanisms and identify biomarkers for diagnosis and treatment.

Transplantation of adult human hepatic stem/progenitor cells (hHSPCs) has been considered as an alternative therapy, replacing donor liver transplantation to treat liver cirrhosis. This study assessed the antifibrotic effects of hHSPCs in mice with fibrosis induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl) and examined the actions of hHSPCs on the fibrogenic activity of human hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) in a coculture system. Isolated hHSPCs expressed stem/progenitor cell phenotypic markers.

Objectives: HOXA5 has been identified as a biomarker in pathogenesis of several cancers, such as non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and breast cancer cells. The role has not been explored in cervical squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC).
Methods: Tissues of 120 cases with CSCC and 30 controls with chronic cervicitis were constructed from our archived surgical pathology files and staining with HOXA5.

Neuropilin 1 (NRP1) promotes tumor growth, angiogenesis, tumor migration, and invasion. Its higher expression is closely related to the metastasis and poor outcome of many cancers. We have reported that NRP1 was expressed at higher levels in highly metastatic cells in comparison to minimally metastatic cells in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).

Bladder cancer is the second most common malignant tumor of the urinary tract worldwide and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. EZH2, the enzymatic subunit of Polycomb repressive complex 2 (PRC2), is frequently overexpressed in multiple tumor types including Bladder cancer and plays multiple roles in tumor cell proliferation and apoptosis. Previous study showed that miR-26a has different roles in different tumors and the expression of EZH2 is identified as a potential target of miR-26a which miR-26a has been found to decrease in bladder cancer.

Purpose: This prospective multicentric study aimed to establish a new clinical T staging standard for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) based on intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT).
Methods And Materials: Between January 2006 and December 2009, four hundred and ninety-two NPC patients undergoing IMRT were staged according to the seventh edition of the UICC/AJCC staging system. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate survival rates, and the log-rank test was used to compare survival differences.

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) have been reported to play critical roles in tumor initiation, propagation, and regeneration of cancer. Nano-size vehicles are employed to deliver drugs to target the CSCs for cancer therapy. Polymeric nanoparticles have been considered as the most efficient vehicles for drug delivery due to their excellent pharmacokinetic properties.

The aim of the project was to assemble two optimum solid lipid nanoparticle (SLN) formulations for oral delivery of loperamide (LPM) to treat different types of diarrhea, and to evaluate their release profiles and pharmacokinetic properties . In this work, glyceryl trimyristate (Dynasan 114) nanoparticles containing the drug LPM and sodium cholate as a stabilizer were prepared using a modified solvent evaporation technique. Two LPM-loaded SLNs, namely LPM-SLN-1 (LPM-SLN with a high ratio rate of lipid to drug) and LPM-SLN-2 (LPM-SLN with a low ratio rate of lipid to drug), were prepared by the solvent evaporation method.

Colonic hepatic tumor overexpressed gene (ch-TOG), a member of the highly conserved XMAP215 family of microtubule-associated proteins (MAPs), plays a crucial role in bipolar mitotic spindle assembly. Here, we performed proof-of-principle studies targeting ch-TOG for the development of HCC and further compared its prognostic significance with the clinicopathologic features of HCC. Quantitative real-time PCR was used to measure the expression level of ch-TOG mRNA in 207 cases of paired HCC and adjacent noncancerous liver tissues (ANLT).

Although atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) has been well recognized for its role in the regulation of volume-pressure homeostasis in cardiovascular system, its impact on respiratory system, particularly on the pathogenesis of acute allergic asthma, is yet to be elucidated. In the present report, we induced mice with OVA for onset of acute allergic asthma along with the administration of recombinant ANP or A71915 (an antagonist for ANP/natriuretic peptide receptor A, NPRA). It was noted that treatment of mice with ANP significantly promoted inflammatory infiltration in the airway and the production of inflammatory cytokines in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and lung homogenates, and the number of inflammatory cells in the BALF was significantly higher as compared with that of PBS treated asthmatic mice.
