Expert consensus on the bone repair strategy for osteoporotic fractures in China.

Front Endocrinol (Lausanne)

November 2022

Institute of Translational Medicine, Shanghai University, Shanghai, China.

Osteoporotic fractures, also known as fragility fractures, are prevalent in the elderly and bring tremendous social burdens. Poor bone quality, weak repair capacity, instability, and high failure rate of internal fixation are main characteristics of osteoporotic fractures. Osteoporotic bone defects are common and need to be repaired by appropriate materials.

Background: in recent years, more attention has been paid to the fuzzy relationship between skeletal muscle components and renal cell carcinoma (RCC). This study attempts to conduct a meta-analysis using all relevant research evidence to explore the impact of sarcopenia on the final survival and recurrence outcome of RCC patients and the change process of this impact after treatment.

Methods: This systematic review and Meta-analysis study took "sarcopenia", "kidney" and "tumor" and their synonyms as the main search terms, and comprehensively searched all relevant literatures published in PubMed, web of science, SpringerLink, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Ovid (Lww oup), Wiley, ScienceDirect and Scopus databases since February 2, 2022.

Objective: Obesity enhances the frequency and severity of acute kidney injury (AKI) induced by renal ischemia-reperfusion (IR). Tanshinone IIA (TIIA) pre-treatment was used to alleviate renal injury induced by renal IR, and whether TIIA can attenuate renal cell apoptosis via modulating mitochondrial function through PI3K/Akt/Bad pathway in obese rats was examined.

Methods: Male rates were fed a high-fat diet for 8 weeks to generate obesity, followed by 30 min of kidney ischemia and 24 h reperfusion induced AKI.

Background: Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a chronic disorder characterized by excessive, pervasive, persistent worrying that is difficult to control. Jiuwei Zhenxin granules may be safer and more effective than non-benzodiazepine anti-anxiety drugs for treating GAD. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of Jiuwei Zhenxin granules alone or in combination with the benzodiazepine alprazolam.

Our team's pharmacological and clinical trials proved that ligustrazine/borneol spray had a definite effect on ischemic stroke (IS). To solve the shortcomings of ligustrazine/borneol spray, such as low bioavailability, short half-life, and poor compatibility between borneol and ligustrazine, ligustrazine-loaded borneol liposomes (LIP@TMP) were successfully prepared by a thin-film ultrasonication method. The average particle size of LIP@TMP was 282.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a multifactorial, refractory chronic inflammatory disease. The primary factor leading to prolonged ulcerative colitis is the imbalance of the group 3 innate lymphoid cells (ILC3) subgroup resulting in the delayed reconstruction of damaged intestinal barrier. Previous studies show that luteolin had efficacy on UC, however, the potency of luteolin on restoring the balance of NCRILC3/NCRILC3 to repairing impaired intestinal barrier remains unclear.

Background: A large number of clinical RCTs have verified that Jin's three-needle therapy (JTNT) has a great contribution to promoting the function of paralyzed limbs and relieving anxiety disorders for patients with post-stroke anxiety (PSA). However, there is still a lack of sham needle control, and its placebo effect cannot be ruled out. This study firstly verifies the real effectiveness of JTNT.

Background: Conflicting results have been reported on the association of C-reactive protein (CRP) level with adverse outcomes in patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD). The objective of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the predictive value of baseline CRP level in stable CAD patients.

Methods: Two reviewers independently searched PubMed and Embase databases from their inception to November 28, 2021 to identify studies assessing the value of baseline CRP level in predicting adverse outcomes in stable CAD patients.

Background: Inflammation and immune cell infiltration in infarcted myocardial tissue are critical to myocardial infarction (MI) prognosis, and alterations in sphingolipid metabolism (SM) have been shown to potentially influence the inflammatory response and induce cardioprotection, but the underlying mechanisms are unclear. We therefore performed bioinformatics analysis to screen for key genes of SM in MI immune cells.

Methods: Three matrix files including GSE61145, GSE23294, and GSE71906 were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database.

This study aimed to evaluate the potential of mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes loaded with curcumin (Curc-Exos) as an effective therapeutic strategy for rheumatoid arthritis through modulation of proliferation and inflammatory response in HIG-82 synovial cells. For this purpose, Exos were isolated and characterized with BCA protein assay, DLS, FE-SEM, and TEM. The Curc was embedded by mixing it with Exos in a 1:4 ratio.

Background: Cancer-associated metabolic reprogramming promotes cancer cell differentiation, growth, and influences the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) to promote hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression. However, the clinical significance of metabolism-related lncRNA remains largely unexplored.

Methods: Based on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) Liver hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC) dataset, we identified characteristic prognostic long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and construct metabolism-related lncRNA prognostic signature for HCC.

June 2022

Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education for Traditional Chinese Medicine Viscera-State Theory and Applications, Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shenyang, China.

Obesity, which has unknown pathogenesis, can increase the frequency and seriousness of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). This study evaluated effect of Huayu Qutan Recipe (HQR) pretreatment on myocardial apoptosis induced by AMI by regulating mitochondrial function via PI3K/Akt/Bad pathway in rats with obesity. For in vivo experiments, 60 male rats were randomly divided into 6 groups: sham group, AMI group, AMI (obese) group, 4.

Background: Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) is the mainstay of therapy for intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC); yet its efficacy varies between patients with the same tumor stage. Accurate prediction of TACE response remains a major concern to avoid overtreatment. Thus, we aimed to develop and validate an artificial intelligence system for real-time automatic prediction of TACE response in HCC patients based on digital subtraction angiography (DSA) videos via a deep learning approach.

Collagen in the tumor microenvironment is recognized as a potential biomarker for predicting treatment response. This study investigated whether the collagen features are associated with pathological complete response (pCR) in locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) patients receiving neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) and develop and validate a prediction model for individualized prediction of pCR. The prediction model was developed in a primary cohort (353 consecutive patients).
