Background: Transition into menopause is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, it is unclear whether the association exists between premature menopause (defined as age at menopause 40 years) or early menopause (defined as age at menopause 40-45 years) and CVD or cardiovascular risk factors. The aim of this review was to comprehensively evaluate and meta-analyze the most reliable evidence about the relationship between menopausal age and the risk of long-term cardiometabolic disease.

Background: Urbanicity refers to the conditions that are particular to urban areas and is a growing environmental challenge that may affect hippocampus and neurocognition. This study aimed to investigate the effects of the average pre-adulthood urbanicity on hippocampal subfield volumes and neurocognitive abilities as well as the sensitive age windows of the urbanicity effects.

Participants And Methods: We included 5,390 CHIMGEN participants (3,538 females; age: 23.

The lateral meniscus tear at the popliteal hiatus area is a tricky problem in clinical treatment due to the difficulty of preoperative diagnosis, narrow space for operation, lack of capsular attachments, and risk of vascular injuries. This article introduces an arthroscopic single-needle, all-inside technique suitable for repairing longitudinal and horizontal lateral meniscus tears at the popliteus tendon hiatus area. We believe this technique is safe, effective, economical and reproducible.

Background: A stent for patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) provides a requirement for a long-term antiplatelet therapy because of the high possibility of the development of stent thrombosis. It was against this background that both Cobra and Catania Polyzene-F (PzF) stents were designed to reduce the occurrence of stent thrombosis (ST). In this study, we review the safety and effectiveness of a PzF-nanocoated stent.

Purpose: Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) has been increasingly used to treat unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC). However, the superiority of combination therapy to TACE monotherapy remains controversial. Therefore, here we performed a meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of TACE plus TKIs in patients with uHCC.

TAK1 deficiency promotes liver injury and tumorigenesis via ferroptosis and macrophage cGAS-STING signalling.

JHEP Rep

May 2023

Department of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery of the Affiliated Friendship Plastic Surgery Hospital & Hepatobiliary Center of the First Affiliated Hospital, Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing, China.

Background & Aims: Oxidative stress-mediated ferroptosis and macrophage-related inflammation play an important role in various liver diseases. Here, we explored if and how hepatocyte ferroptosis regulates macrophage stimulator of interferon genes (STING) activation in the development of spontaneous liver damage, fibrosis, and tumorigenesis.

Methods: We used a transforming growth factor-beta-activated kinase 1 (TAK1) deficiency-induced model of spontaneous liver damage, fibrosis, and tumorigenesis to investigate hepatocyte ferroptosis and its impact on macrophage STING signalling.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common age-related joint disease characterized by chronic inflammation, progressive articular cartilage destruction, and subchondral sclerosis. Accumulating evidence suggests that circular RNAs (circRNAs) play key roles in OA, but the function of circSLTM in OA remains greatly unknown. Therefore, this study focused on interleukin-1β (IL-1β)-treated primary human chondrocytes as well as a rat model to investigate the expression pattern and functional role of circSLTM in OA in vitro and in vivo.

Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM), one of the major complications of type 2 diabetes, is a leading cause of heart failure and death in advanced diabetes. Although there is an association between DCM and ferroptosis in cardiomyocytes, the internal mechanism of ferroptosis leading to DCM development remains unknown. CD36 is a key molecule in lipid metabolism that mediates ferroptosis.

Background: Osteoporosis, a systemic metabolic bone disease, is often caused by the disruption of dynamic equilibrium between osteoclasts and osteoblasts. Overactive bone resorption, in which osteoclasts play a major role, is one of the most common and major causes of osteoporosis. Less costly and more effective drug treatments for this disease are needed.

Genetic mutations that render mismatch repair defective may result in microsatellite instability, which is common in colorectal carcinomas and gastric cancers as well as Lynch syndrome. Mismatch repair deficiency/high microsatellite instability (dMMR/MSI-H) predicts the tumor response to immune checkpoint inhibitors. However, few studies have evaluated the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with dMMR/MSI-H.

In this study, we introduce an arthroscopic technique for posterior-superior capsular fenestration and spinoglenoid cyst resection completely via a trans-rotator cuff approach. This approach can provide a full field of view and allow evaluation of the scope of the cyst under direct vision, which reduces the risk of recurrence and injury to the suprascapular neurovascular bundle.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a universal endocrine and metabolic disorder prevalent in reproductive aged women. PCOS is often accompanied with insulin resistance (IR) which is an essential pathological factor. Although there is no known cure for PCOS, cangfudaotan (CFDT) decoction is widely used for the treatment of PCOS; nevertheless, the underlying mechanism is not clear.

Article Synopsis
  • ACP6 is a mitochondrial enzyme that has been linked to lipid metabolism, but its role in human cancers, specifically hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), was previously unknown.
  • Research revealed that ACP6 is overexpressed in HCC, correlating with clinical progression and poorer survival rates among patients, while its expression also showed associations with various immune cells.
  • In experiments, knocking down ACP6 in HCC cells reduced their proliferation and migration, suggesting that ACP6 could serve as a potential clinical biomarker and target for HCC treatment.

Our recent study has found that gut bacteria contributes to hypertension and upregulates lysophospholipase A1 (LYPLA1) in the renal medulla of rats. This work aimed to investigate the role of LYPLA1 in the development of -induced hypertension. Compared to control, treatment increased blood pressure (BP), serum angiotensin II, sodium reabsorption, and expression of αENaC and LYPLA1 in the renal medulla of mice, and these effects were attenuated by knockdown of LYPLA1.
