Melioidosis is a fatal, endemic disease caused by Burkholderiapseudomallei which is a gram-negative bacillus. Melioidosis present diversely that ranging from chronic disease to fulminant sepsis, and may affect almost any organ in the body. And in China, melioidosis presenting primarily as prostatic abscesses has rarely been reported.

Objective: To explore the biological behavior and the revascularizative ability of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) transfected with human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) gene.

Methods: EPCs were isolated from mononuclear cells in bone marrow by using the method of density gradient centrifugation, then cultured with differential velocity adherent method, EPCs were transfected by recombinant plasmid carrying GFP report gene EGFP-hTERT. The EPCs secretion and proliferation ability were detected before and after transfection.

Aims And Background: Endostatin can inhibit tumor endothelial cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and growth. We aimed to determine the increase in antitumor capabilities of recombinant human endostatin (rhES) when used with a nanocarrier system. The effect of gold nanoshell particles of recombinant human endostatin (G-rhES) with near-infrared (NIR) irradiation on proliferation, inhibition, and apoptosis of A549 lung cancer cells was studied.

Concurrent chemoradiotherapy has proven to be more effective on patients with advanced cervical cancer than radiotherapy alone. Although cisplatin has been recommended to be the standard agent in chemotherapy, it has some limitations in clinical use because of its strong side effects. Moreover, the optimal chemotherapy regimen remains unclear.

FBXO31 promotes cell proliferation, metastasis and invasion in lung cancer.

Am J Cancer Res

July 2015

Clinical Research Center, Guangdong Medical College Zhanjiang 524001, China ; Department of Respiratory Medicine, Affiliated hospital of Guangdong Medical College Zhanjiang 524001, China.

FBXO31 is a member of F-box family which is involved in diverse biological functions and development of disease. Recent reports in breast cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma and ovarian cancer demonstrated inhibitory effect of FBXO31 on proliferation and tumorigenesis. However, the function of FBXO31 is not analyzed in lung cancer so far.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the role of HMGB1 in patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis (APTB) by measuring its levels in plasma and sputum, along with various inflammatory cytokines and immune cells.
  • Results showed that APTB patients had significantly higher levels of HMGB1 and cytokines (IL-6, IL-10, and TNF-α) compared to healthy volunteers, indicating an association with inflammation.
  • The findings suggest that HMGB1 could serve as a potential biomarker for diagnosing and predicting the prognosis of APTB, reflecting the inflammatory state of monocytes in these patients.

Purpose: Recent studies have investigated remodeling and spacing factor 1 (Rsf-1) as a molecular marker in various solid tumors. However, whether or not Rsf-1 exerts a negative or positive effect on the survival of patients with solid cancers remains controversial. Therefore, this study aims to determine whether or not Rsf-1 may be a predicative marker of poor prognosis and aggressive tumor progression.

Epithelioid angiomyolipoma (EAML) is a rare renal mesenchymal tumor with malignant potential and is frequently associated with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). As metastasis of the tumor cells occur early, EAML is considered a potentially malignant tumor type and intrigues further research on it. Under the microscope, we could find the tumor was composed of atypical polygonal cells sheet mixed with classic angiomyolipoma (AML) components such as blood vessels with notable thick vascular walls, smooth muscle-like cells and adipocytes.

Structural basis and functions of abscisic acid receptors PYLs.

Front Plant Sci

March 2015

State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology, College of Biological Sciences, China Agricultural University Beijing, China.

Abscisic acid (ABA) plays a key role in many developmental processes and responses to adaptive stresses in plants. Recently, a new family of nucleocytoplasmic PYR/PYL/RCAR (PYLs) has been identified as bona fide ABA receptors. PYLs together with protein phosphatases type-2C (PP2Cs), Snf1 (Sucrose-non-fermentation 1)-related kinases subfamily 2 (SnRK2s) and downstream substrates constitute the core ABA signaling network.

Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine, The Second Clinical Medical School, Guangdong Key Laboratory for Research, Guangdong Medical College Dongguan 523808, China.

Purposes: To explorer the serum level of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines in the patients of ulcerative colitis and irritable bowel disease. And analyze the correlation between the cytokine's levels and disease's activity of ulcerative colitis patients.

Methods: Serum cytokines of ulcerative colitis and irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea patients including IL-6, IL-10, IL-13, IL-17, TNF-α and TGF-β were analyzed by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay, and ulcerative colitis activity were assessed by Mayo scoring system.

Background: Baicalin is one of flavonoid extracts from Scutellaria baicalensis, which has several functions including anti-inflammation, anti-bacteria, antitumor and et al. However, the mechanisms of anti-inflammatory of baicalin in ulcerative colitis is not clear.

Methods: Mice colitis models were established by dextran sodium sulfate, Mice administrated with baicalin (100 mg/kg) and mesalazine (100 mg/kg) twice daily by intragastric injection for 7 days after colitis induced were defined as treated group.

Despite past extensive studies, the role of B and T lymphocyte attenuator (BTLA) in αβ T cells in patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis (ATB) remains poorly understood. Here we demonstrate that BTLA expression on αβ T cells is decreased in patients with M. tuberculosis (Mtb) infection.

Tumor suppressor in lung cancer 1 (TSLC1) is a novel tumor suppressor gene whose inactivation is implicated in the occurrence, invasion, metastasis and prognosis of esophageal cancer. TSLC1 was studied by comparing the tumor formation of TSLC1 transfectant and control cells in nude mice. Compared with blank group and mock group, tumor size and infiltrating range of transfected group was less, differentiation of tumor tissue was slightly better, and differences of tumor angiogenesis was worse.
