We performed a Mendelian randomisation (MR) analysis to explore the relationship between serum metabolites and tinnitus. In this study, 486 serum metabolites were considered as exposure factors, and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) significantly associated with them were used as instrumental variables (IV). The serum metabolite data were obtained from a public database (http://metabolomips.

Introduction: Obesity-related precocious puberty is induced by obesity, and acupoint catgut embedding (ACE) therapy is known to treat obesity. This study aims to validate the hypothesis that ACE can delay the onset of obesity-related precocious puberty.

Methods: Female Sprague-Dawley rats, 21 days old, were randomly divided into three groups: the high-fat diet combined with ACE treatment group (ACE), the high-fat diet group (HFD), and the normal control diet group (NCD), with 8 rats in each group.

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a globally prevalent chronic condition. Individuals with T2DM are at increased risk of developing complications associated with both macrovascular and microvascular pathologies. These comorbidities reduce patient quality of life and increase mortality.

Affinity molecular assay for detecting Candida albicans using chitin affinity and RPA-CRISPR/Cas12a.

Nat Commun

Key Laboratory of Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics (Chinese Ministry of Education), Department of Laboratory Medicine, Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing, China.

Invasive fungal infections (IFIs) pose a significant threat to immunocompromised individuals, leading to considerable morbidity and mortality. Prompt and accurate diagnosis is essential for effective treatment. Here we develop a rapid molecular diagnostic method that involves three steps: fungal enrichment using affinity-magnetic separation (AMS), genomic DNA extraction with silicon hydroxyl magnetic beads, and detection through a one-pot system.

Ex vivo Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Human Fetal Brain.

Dev Neurosci

October 2024

Key Laboratory for Biomedical Engineering of Ministry of Education, Department of Biomedical Engineering, College of Biomedical Engineering & Instrument Science, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China.

Background: The fetal brain undergoes a dynamic process of development during gestation, marked by well-orchestrated events such as neuronal proliferation, migration, axonal outgrowth, and dendritic arborization, mainly elucidated through histological studies. Ex vivo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has emerged as a useful tool for 3D visualization of the developing fetal brain, serving as a complementary tool to traditional histology.

Summary: In this review, we summarized the commonly employed ex vivo MRI techniques and their advances in fetal brain imaging, and proposed a standard protocol for postmortem fetal brain specimen collection and fixation.

Infertility is closely related to obesity. Relative fat mass (RFM) is a newer index for assessing percentage of body fat, which reflects the amount of body fat better than body mass index (BMI), but its relationship with infertility needs further study. The purpose of this study was to assess whether there was an association between RFM and infertility in women aged 20 to 44 years in the United States.

Rhoifolin (ROF) exhibits a diverse range of biological activities, encompassing anticancer, hepatoprotective, antidiabetic, antirheumatic, and antiviral properties. However, the specific protective effects and possible mechanisms of the compound against T-cell-mediated autoimmune hepatitis have not been previously elucidated. In the present study, adult male mice were administered Con A (20 mg/kg, intravenously) for 8 h.

A novel method to detect carotid artery in-stent restenosis.

J Neuroimaging

November 2024

Department of Neurology, The Affiliated Hospital, Southwest Medical University, Luzhou, China.

Background And Purpose: Carotid artery stenosis is a major risk factor for ischemic stroke. Despite carotid artery stenting, in-stent restenosis (ISR) remains challenging. Pigs serve as an ideal ISR model.

Cerebrovascular abnormalities are critical indicators of stroke and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's disease (AD). Understanding the normal evolution of brain vessels is essential for detecting early deviations and enabling timely interventions. Here, for the first time, we proposed a pipeline exploring the joint evolution of cortical volumes (CVs) and arterial volumes (AVs) in a large cohort of 2841 individuals.

Background: Management of moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (AD) needs long-term therapy. Stapokibart is a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting interleukin-4 receptor α subunit (IL-4Rα), a shared receptor for IL-4 and IL-13 which are key pathogenic drivers of AD. In a pivotal phase 3 trial (NCT05265923), significant higher proportions of adult AD patients receiving stapokibart than placebo achieved ≥75% improvement from baseline in Eczema Area and Severity Index (EASI-75; 66.

Background: Psoriasis is closely associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, the current evidence on the correlation between Life's Essential 8 and Psoriasis is insufficient. Our aim was to investigate the relationship between Life's Essential 8 (LE8), a measure of cardiovascular health (CVH), and psoriasis.

Introduction: The extent to which sinks are contaminated by carbapenem-resistant (CRAB) in intensive care units (ICUs) and the association between these contaminated sinks and hospital-acquired CRAB infections during the non-cluster period remains largely unknown. Here, we performed a prospective multicenter study in 16 ICUs at 11 tertiary hospitals in Chengdu, China.

Methods: We sampled sinks, collected CRAB clinical isolates, and conducted whole-genome sequencing and analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study used a two-sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to explore the connection between venous leg ulcers (VLUs) and knee osteoarthritis (KOA).
  • Multiple MR methods, including inverse variance weighted and others, showed no significant genetic association between VLUs and KOA, indicating that they do not influence each other.
  • The research concluded that there is no causal or reverse causal relationship between VLUs and KOA based on the genetic analysis performed.

School of Basic Medical Sciences, Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, Hangzhou 310053, China; Key Laboratory of Blood-Stasis-Toxin Syndrome of Zhejiang Province, Hangzhou 310053, China. Electronic address:

Dihydroartemisinin (DHA), a compound extracted from the herbal medicine Artemisia annua, has shown promise as a clinical treatment strategy for colorectal cancer. However, its clinical use is hindered by its low water solubility and bioavailability. A pH/glutathione (GSH) dual-responsive nano-herb delivery system (PMDC NPs) has been developed for the targeted delivery of DHA, accompanied by abundant carbon monoxide (CO) release.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate how acupuncture might protect ovarian function in mice with poor ovarian response (POR) by examining its effects on specific molecules in the Hippo signaling pathway, focusing on reducing ovarian cell death.
  • Mice were divided into three groups: normal control, POR model (induced by a specific substance), and acupuncture-treated. Acupuncture was administered over ten days, and various physiological and biochemical parameters were measured to assess ovarian health.
  • Results indicated that the POR model group showed increased hormonal imbalances and estrous cycle disorders compared to the normal group, suggesting a need for therapeutic interventions like acupuncture to mitigate these effects.
