Nutr Metab Cardiovasc Dis

October 2023

School of Nursing, Jilin University, Changchun, Jilin, 130021, China. Electronic address:

Aims: Cardiovascular disease is a prevalent worldwide disease, and cardiometabolic risk factors (CMRFs) include hyperlipidemia, hypertension, diabetes, and adiposity. Healthy diets are the critical factor in controlling these CMRFs risks, especially cereal bran which contains many beneficial substances. However, there are still contradictions in the indicators of improving CMRFs by bran from different grain sources or even the same grain source.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the safety and efficacy of microwave ablation (MWA) in patients with multifocal papillary thyroid carcinoma (M-PTC) compared to those with unifocal papillary thyroid carcinoma (U-PTC), using data from 504 patients over five years.
  • Results showed that while the complete ablation was achieved in all cases, the tumour disappearance rate was significantly lower and slower for M-PTC patients compared to U-PTC, but the overall safety and complication rates were comparable between the two groups.
  • In conclusion, MWA is an effective and safe treatment for selected M-PTC patients, with clinical outcomes similar to those with U-PTC

Background: Toxoplasma gondii infection can cause adverse pregnancy outcomes, such as recurrent abortion, fetal growth restriction and infants with malformations, among others. Decidual myeloid-derived suppressor cells (dMDSCs) are a novel immunosuppressive cell type at the fetal-maternal interface which play an important role in sustaining normal pregnancy that is related to their high expression of the inhibitory molecule leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor B4 (LILRB4). It has been reported that the expression of LILRB4 is downregulated on decidual macrophages after T.

Aims And Objectives: To describe dyadic psycho-social intervention measures and to evaluate their influence on stroke survivors and caregiver's functional independence, quality of life, depression, anxiety, self-efficacy and coping ability.

Background: Because of the importance of dyadic intervention and the seriousness of the psycho-social problems of stroke survivors and caregivers, understanding the influence of dyadic psycho-social interventions is vital.

Design: A systematic review and meta-analysis based on PRISMA guidelines.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains a worldwide health problem. Mounting evidence indicates that exhausted T cells play a critical role in the progress and treatment of HCC. Therefore, a detailed characterisation of exhausted T cells and their clinical significance warrants further investigation in HCC.

Copper in cancer: from limiting nutrient to therapeutic target.

Front Oncol

June 2023

The First Clinical Medical College, Lanzhou University, Lanzhou, Gansu, China.

As an essential nutrient, copper's redox properties are both beneficial and toxic to cells. Therefore, leveraging the characteristics of copper-dependent diseases or using copper toxicity to treat copper-sensitive diseases may offer new strategies for specific disease treatments. In particular, copper concentration is typically higher in cancer cells, making copper a critical limiting nutrient for cancer cell growth and proliferation.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSC) is the most common malignant tumor of head and neck. Due to the insidious nature of HNSC and the lack of effective early diagnostic indicators, the development of novel biomarkers to improve patient prognosis is particularly urgent. In this study, we explored and validated the correlation between cytochrome P450 family 4 subfamily F member 12 (CYP4F12) expression levels and HNSC progression using data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets and collected patient samples.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a malignant proliferative disease affecting the bone marrow hematopoietic system and has a poor long-term outcome. Exploring genes that affect the malignant proliferation of AML cells can facilitate the accurate diagnosis and treatment of AML. Studies have confirmed that circular RNA (circRNA) is positively correlated with its linear gene expression.

The ototoxic side effect of cisplatin is a main cause of sensorineural hearing loss. This side effect limits the clinical application of cisplatin and affects patients' quality of life. This study was designed to investigate the effect of apelin-13 on cisplatin-induced C57BL/6 mice hearing loss model and explore the potential underlying molecular mechanisms.

Prognostic and immunological potential of PPM1G in lung adenocarcinoma.

Mol Med Rep

August 2023

School of Basic Medical Sciences, Binzhou Medical University, Yantai, Shandong 264003, P.R. China.

Lung cancer is one of the most common types of cancer worldwide, with the highest incidence and mortality rates. Protein phosphatase, Mg/Mn dependent 1G (PPM1G) is a serine/threonine phosphatase, which is involved in the proliferation, invasion and metastasis of tumor cells. However, there are few reports on the role of PPM1G in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD).

Imatinib resistance in chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) is a clinical problem. The present study examined the role of N‑Myc downstream regulatory gene 3 (NDRG3) in imatinib resistance in CML. Quantitative PCR demonstrated that NDRG3 was highly expressed in patients with CML.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a clonal malignant proliferative disease. In recent years, with the use of all‑trans retinoic acid to induce cancer cell differentiation in acute promyelocytic leukemia, and its advantages of high efficacy and low toxic side effects, tumor differentiation therapy has become a research hotspot; however, the mechanisms underlying its role remain to be fully established. Nod‑like receptor family pyridine domain containing 3 (NLRP3) is the most extensively studied and well‑characterized inflammasome, is involved in a variety of inflammation‑related diseases, including cancer, and is a very attractive potential target for the study of novel therapeutic agents.

Objectives: We herein evaluated the effects of gestational weight gain (GWG) on postpartum pelvic floor function using transperineal ultrasound (TPUS).

Methods: We analyzed retrospectively the data from 228 primiparous women with singleton pregnancies who were evaluated for postpartum pelvic floor function between February 2022 and October 2022. According to the 2009 Institute of Medicine guidelines regarding GWG, subjects were separated into three groups: inadequate GWG, recommended GWG, and excessive GWG.

Objective: We aimed to quantify the extent of salivary gland fibrosis using shear-wave elastography (SWE) to assess its diagnostic value for primary Sjögren syndrome (pSS).

Methods: A total of 58 pSS patients and 44 controls underwent SWE ultrasound evaluation of the parotid and submandibular glands. We measured the degree of salivary gland fibrosis in all participants and investigated the diagnostic accuracy of SWE for pSS and its relationship to disease progression.
