Cancer Center, Yantai Affiliated Hospital of Binzhou Medical University, The 2 Medical College of Binzhou Medical University, Yantai 264100, Shandong Province, China.

Esophageal cancer ranks among the most prevalent malignant tumors globally, primarily due to its highly aggressive nature and poor survival rates. According to the 2020 global cancer statistics, there were approximately 604000 new cases of esophageal cancer, resulting in 544000 deaths. The 5-year survival rate hovers around a mere 15%-25%.

Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) stands a prevalent chronic liver condition significantly influenced by oxidative stress. We investigated the unclear relationship between antioxidant-rich diet and lifestyle and cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevalence rate and mortality in adult patients with NAFLD.

Methods: This study utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHAENS) spanning from 1999 to 2018 to investigate the association between adherence to an antioxidant-rich diet and lifestyle and the cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevalence rate and mortality in adult patients with NAFLD.

Bone regeneration and mineralization can be achieved by means of distraction osteogenesis (DO). In the present study, we investigated the effect of stromal cell-derived factor 1 (SDF-1) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) on the new bone formation during DO in rats. Forty-eight Sprague-Dawley rats were randomized into four groups of 12 rats each.

Preliminary Mechanism of Glial Maturation Factor β on Pulmonary Vascular Remodeling in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension.

Adv Biol (Weinh)

June 2024

Department of General Practice, Tongji Hospital, School of Medicine, Tongji University 389 Xincun Rd, Putuo District, Shanghai, 200065, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Recent research indicates that glia maturation factor β (GMFβ) plays a significant role in the development of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), although the exact mechanism is still unclear.
  • Studies conducted on PAH rats show that GMFβ is upregulated in their lungs and that its knockout reduces key indicators of PAH, such as right ventricular pressure and pulmonary vascular remodeling.
  • The findings suggest that lack of GMFβ improves PAH symptoms by inhibiting the IL-6-STAT3 signaling pathway, thereby reducing inflammation and related molecule production in the pulmonary vasculature.

Background: To predict pathological complete response (pCR) in patients receiving neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy (nICT) for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), we explored the factors that influence pCR after nICT and established a combined nomogram model.

Methods: We retrospectively included 164 ESCC patients treated with nICT. The radiomics signature and hematology model were constructed utilizing least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression, and the radiomics score (radScore) and hematology score (hemScore) were determined for each patient.

Department of Neurosurgery, Huashan Hospital, Shanghai Medical College, State Key Laboratory of Medical Neurobiology, MOE Frontiers Center for Brain Science and Institutes of Brain Science, Fudan University, Shanghai, 200040, China. Electronic address:

Glioma is a common malignant brain tumor with great heterogeneity and huge difference in clinical outcomes. Although lymphotoxin (LT) beta receptor (LTBR) has been linked to immune system and response development for decades, the expression and function in glioma have not been investigated. To confirm the expression profile of LTBR, integrated RNA-seq data from glioma and normal brain tissues were analyzed.

The 'diabetic bone paradox' suggested that type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients would have higher areal bone mineral density (BMD) but higher fracture risk than individuals without T2D. In this study, we found that the genetically predicted T2D was associated with higher BMD and lower risk of fracture in both weighted genetic risk score (wGRS) and two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses. We also identified ten genomic loci shared between T2D and fracture, with the top signal at SNP rs4580892 in the intron of gene .

The intestinal mucosal barrier is of great importance for maintaining the stability of the internal environment, which is closely related to the occurrence and development of intestinal inflammation. Octreotide (OCT) has potential applicable clinical value for treating intestinal injury according to previous studies, but the underlying molecular mechanisms have remained elusive. This article is based on a cell model of inflammation induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS), aiming to explore the effects of OCT in protecting intestinal mucosal barrier function.

College of Textiles and Clothing, the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University, Qingdao University, Qingdao 266071, China; Industrial Research Institute of Nonwovens and Technical Textiles, Shandong Engineering Research Center for Specialty Nonwoven Materials, Qingdao 266071, China. Electronic address:

Water vapor from respiration can severely accelerate the charge dissipation of the face mask, reducing filtration efficiency. Moreover, the foul odor from prolonged mask wear tends to make people remove their masks, leading to the risk of infection. In this study, an electro-blown spinning electroactive nanofibrous membrane (Zn/CB@PAN) with antibacterial and deodorization properties was prepared by adding zinc (Zn) and carbon black (CB) nanoparticles to the polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers, respectively.

The process of bone regeneration is intricately regulated by various cytokines at distinct stages. The establishment of early and efficient vascularization, along with the maintenance of a sustained osteoinductive microenvironment, plays a crucial role in the successful utilization of bone repair materials. This study aimed to develop a composite hydrogel that would facilitate the creation of an osteogenic microenvironment for bone repair.
