This review first addresses the role of the innate immune system, including neutrophils and macrophages, in the cascade of events leading to myocardial infarction and reperfusion injury.

Benefits of uric acid-lowering medication after bariatric surgery in patients with gout.

Background/purpose: Patients with gout are at risk for increased serum uric acid (SUA) levels and gout attacks in the short term after undergoing bariatric surgery, and the purpose of this study was to evaluate the benefits of short-term treatment with uric acid-lowering medication after bariatric surgery for the control of gout attacks and SUA levels in patients with gout.

Methods: 71 patients who underwent SG from January 2020 to December 2022 were prospectively included. These patients were diagnosed with hyperuricemia before surgery and had a history of gout attacks.

Introduction: To explore the association between magnesium depletion score (MgDS) and the prevalence of kidney stones in the low primary income ratio (PIR).

Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2007-2018. Within the low PIR, people aged ≥20 years with complete information on MgDS and kidney stones questionnaires were enrolled.

Risk Prediction of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus by MRI-based Pancreatic Morphology and Clinical Characteristics: A Cross-sectional Study.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the pancreatic morphology and clinical characteristics to predict risk factors of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) based on magnetic resonance imaging.

Methods: A total of 89 patients (T2DM group) and 68 healthy controls (HC group) were included. The T2DM group was divided into a long-term T2DM group and a short-term T2DM group according to whether the illness duration was more than 5 years.

The use of tyrosine kinase inhibitors combined with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is considered the standard therapy for patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC). However, information regarding the efficacy of lenvatinib or sorafenib in combination with TACE for patients with uHCC is limited. The present study involved a systematic search for randomized controlled trials on the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and the Cochrane Library online databases to compare the use of TACE combined with either lenvatinib or sorafenib, and monotherapy using either lenvatinib or sorafenib for patients with uHCC.

Advances in antitumor application of ROS enzyme-mimetic catalysts.

The rapid growth of research on enzyme-mimetic catalysts (Enz-Cats) is expected to promote further advances in nanomedicine for biological detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease, especially tumors. ROS-based nanomedicines present fascinating potential in antitumor therapy owing to the rapid development of nanotechnology. In this review, we focus on the applications of Enz-Cats based on ROS in antitumor therapy.

Non-small cell lung cancer and metabolism research from 2013 to 2023: a visual analysis and bibliometric study.

Background: As one of the most prevalent primary lung tumors, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has garnered considerable research interest due to its high metastasis rates and poor prognosis outcomes. Across different cancer types, metabolic processes are required for tumors progression and growth, thus interfering with such processes in NSCLC may therapeutically viable for limiting/halting disease progression. Therefore, comprehending how metabolic processes contribute to growth and survival mechanisms in cancers, including NSCLC, may elucidate key functions underpinning tumor cell metabolism.

Development and validation of a LASSO prediction model for cisplatin induced nephrotoxicity: a case-control study in China.

Background: Early identification of high-risk individuals with cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity (CIN) is crucial for avoiding CIN and improving prognosis. In this study, we developed and validated a CIN prediction model based on general clinical data, laboratory indications, and genetic features of lung cancer patients before chemotherapy.

Methods: We retrospectively included 696 lung cancer patients using platinum chemotherapy regimens from June 2019 to June 2021 as the traing set to construct a predictive model using Absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression, cross validation, and Akaike's information criterion (AIC) to select important variables.

Development and validation of a machine learning-based readmission risk prediction model for non-ST elevation myocardial infarction patients after percutaneous coronary intervention.

To investigate the factors that influence readmissions in patients with acute non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) by using multiple machine learning (ML) methods to establish a predictive model. In this study, 1576 NSTEMI patients who were hospitalized at the Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College were selected as the research subjects. They were divided into two groups: the readmitted group and the non-readmitted group.

Neck dissection of cN0 maxillary oral squamous cell carcinoma: A study based on SEER database.

Objective: For patients with clinical nodal-negative (cN0) maxillary oral squamous cell carcinoma (MOSCC), neck dissection (ND) and clinical observation are the main two management strategies for the neck. However, the indications corresponding to these two options remain controversial. This study aimed to elucidate the clinical factors affecting ND treatment and to identify clinical characteristics of the population that may benefit from ND based on a retrospective analysis of cN0 MOSCC patient data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database.

The causal effects of intelligence and fluid intelligence on Parkinson's disease: a Mendelian randomization study.

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that affects the central nervous system, primarily the motor nervous system, and occurs most often in older adults. A large number of studies have shown that high intelligence leads to an increased risk of PD. However, whether there is a causal relationship between intelligence on PD has not yet been reported.

Backgrounds: Personal growth initiative (PGI) is regarded as a meaningful concept with potential value at both the individual and organizational levels, but little is known about the factors that contribute to nurses' PGI. This study aimed to explore how proactive personality and hospital work environment affect PGI of clinical nurses.
