The roles of Th cells in myocardial infarction.

Cell Death Discov

June 2024

Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases & Department of Cardiology, Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital, School of Medicine, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China.

Myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack, is a serious condition caused by the abrupt stoppage of blood flow to a part of the heart, leading to tissue damage. A significant aspect of this condition is reperfusion injury, which occurs when blood flow is restored but exacerbates the damage. This review first addresses the role of the innate immune system, including neutrophils and macrophages, in the cascade of events leading to myocardial infarction and reperfusion injury.

The use of tyrosine kinase inhibitors combined with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is considered the standard therapy for patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC). However, information regarding the efficacy of lenvatinib or sorafenib in combination with TACE for patients with uHCC is limited. The present study involved a systematic search for randomized controlled trials on the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and the Cochrane Library online databases to compare the use of TACE combined with either lenvatinib or sorafenib, and monotherapy using either lenvatinib or sorafenib for patients with uHCC.

Background: As one of the most prevalent primary lung tumors, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has garnered considerable research interest due to its high metastasis rates and poor prognosis outcomes. Across different cancer types, metabolic processes are required for tumors progression and growth, thus interfering with such processes in NSCLC may therapeutically viable for limiting/halting disease progression. Therefore, comprehending how metabolic processes contribute to growth and survival mechanisms in cancers, including NSCLC, may elucidate key functions underpinning tumor cell metabolism.

Background: Early identification of high-risk individuals with cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity (CIN) is crucial for avoiding CIN and improving prognosis. In this study, we developed and validated a CIN prediction model based on general clinical data, laboratory indications, and genetic features of lung cancer patients before chemotherapy.

Methods: We retrospectively included 696 lung cancer patients using platinum chemotherapy regimens from June 2019 to June 2021 as the traing set to construct a predictive model using Absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression, cross validation, and Akaike's information criterion (AIC) to select important variables.

Neck dissection of cN0 maxillary oral squamous cell carcinoma: A study based on SEER database.

J Stomatol Oral Maxillofac Surg

September 2024

Department of Oral and maxillofacial surgery, Nanchong Central Hospital, The Affiliated Nanchong Central Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College, Nanchong, Sichuan, China. Electronic address:

Objective: For patients with clinical nodal-negative (cN0) maxillary oral squamous cell carcinoma (MOSCC), neck dissection (ND) and clinical observation are the main two management strategies for the neck. However, the indications corresponding to these two options remain controversial. This study aimed to elucidate the clinical factors affecting ND treatment and to identify clinical characteristics of the population that may benefit from ND based on a retrospective analysis of cN0 MOSCC patient data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

June 2024

Department of Orthopedic Surgery, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu 610041, China.

Both bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and their exosomes suggest promising therapeutic tools for bone regeneration. Lithium has been reported to regulate BMSC function and engineer exosomes to improve bone regeneration in patients with glucocorticoid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head. However, the mechanisms by which lithium promotes osteogenesis have not been elucidated.

Background: Osteoporosis and atherosclerosis frequently afflict older adults, and recent insights suggest a deeper connection between these conditions that surpasses mere aging effects. The ratio of non-high-density to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (NHHR) has emerged as a novel lipid marker for evaluating the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Nonetheless, investigations into the correlation of the NHHR with the risk of developing osteoporosis remain unexplored.

Computed tomography (CT) scans of acute cerebral hemorrhage are often characterized by high-density imaging with occasional mixed density and low-density imaging features. Possible reasons for this are a lack of blood coagulation, extravasation of cerebrospinal fluid, and brain tissue edema. It is rarely due to the accumulation of lipid components associated with hyperlipidemia.
