Mitochondrial stress: a key role of neuroinflammation in stroke.

J Neuroinflammation

February 2024

Department of Neurosurgery, Xiangya School of Medicine, Affiliated Haikou Hospital, Central South University, Haikou, 570208, China.

Stroke is a clinical syndrome characterized by an acute, focal neurological deficit, primarily caused by the occlusion or rupture of cerebral blood vessels. In stroke, neuroinflammation emerges as a pivotal event contributing to neuronal cell death. The occurrence and progression of neuroinflammation entail intricate processes, prominently featuring mitochondrial dysfunction and adaptive responses.

A modified U-Net convolutional neural network for segmenting periprostatic adipose tissue based on contour feature learning.

Heliyon

February 2024

Department of Urology, Affiliated Haikou Hospital of Xiangya Medical College, Central South University, Haikou, 570208, Hainan Province, China.

Article Synopsis
  • This study develops a U-shaped convolutional neural network (U-Net) model for accurately identifying and segmenting periprostatic adipose tissue (PPAT) using MRI images.
  • It introduces a novel approach by utilizing contour control points and a modified learning method to address feature ambiguity in PPAT contours across different patients.
  • The results show that the U-Net outperforms other networks in accurately predicting PPAT contours, achieving significant metrics like a Dice similarity coefficient of 70.1%.

Purpose: BCL-2-associated athanogene 3 (BAG3) is an anti-apoptotic protein that plays an essential role in the onset and progression of multiple cancer types. However, the clinical significance of BAG3 in kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC) remains unclear.

Methods: Using Tumor IMmune Estimation Resource (TIMER), The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, we explored the expression, prognostic value, and clinical correlations of BAG3 in KIRC.

Predictive power of lipid-related indicators for testosterone deficiency: a comparative analysis, NHANES 2011-2016.

Int Urol Nephrol

June 2024

Department of Urology, Affiliated Haikou Hospital of Xiangya Medical School, Central South University, Haikou, 570208, China.

Background: Studies have shown that lipid-related indicators are associated with testosterone deficiency. However, it is difficult to determine which indicator is the most accurate predictor of testosterone deficiency. We aimed to identify the lipid-related indicators most predictive of testosterone deficiency in adults in the United States.

Background: Ultrasound is one of the most commonly used examination methods in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and is valuable in evaluating patient prognosis. Although contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) can assess more in depth the vascular lesions of patients, there is still a lack of relevant research on the value of quantitative parameters of CEUS in predicting the long-term prognosis of patients with chronic coronary syndrome (CCS), thus, we designed this study.

Methods: From January 2016 to December 2017, a total of 473 patients with CCS admitted to Yueyang People's Hospital were retrospectively enrolled.

Background: The treatment of lower grade gliomas (LGG) is currently the most challenging dilemma in the management of intracranial tumors. Necroptosis is a type of programmed cell death that is closely associated with tumor progression, However, the role of necroptosis related genes in LGG is not yet well elucidated.

Methods: Online databases were used to obtain gene expression and clinical information.
