Objectives: We aimed to investigate the prescription of antithrombotic drugs (including anticoagulants and antiplatelets) and medication adherence after stroke.

Methods: We performed a systematic literature search across MEDLINE and Embase, from January 1, 2015, to February 17, 2022, to identify studies reporting antithrombotic medications (anticoagulants and antiplatelets) post stroke. Two people independently identified reports to include, extracted data, and assessed the quality of included studies according to the Newcastle-Ottawa scale.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers analyzed 128 cases of intermediate-risk gastric GISTs, finding that the endoscopic group had smaller tumors, shorter surgery times, fewer complications, and reduced hospital stays compared to the surgical group.
  • * Results showed no recurrences or deaths in the endoscopy group during follow-up, and the data suggested that imatinib adjuvant treatment did not significantly benefit patients after endoscopic resection.

Background And Aims: Transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from bone marrow (BM) is an alternative treatment of acute liver failure (ALF) mainly because of the resulting anti-inflammatory activity. It is not known how MSCs regulate local immune responses and liver regeneration. This study explored the effects of MSCs on hepatic macrophages and the Wnt signaling pathway in ALF.

September 2022

The State Key Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Department of Hematology, The Affiliated Drum Tower Hospital of Nanjing University Medical School, China-Australia Institute of Translational Medicine, School of Life Sciences, Nanjing University, Nanjing 210023, China.

Accumulating pieces of evidence suggested that immunotypes may indicate the overall immune landscape in the tumor microenvironment, which were closely related to therapeutic response. The purpose of this study was to classify and define the immune subtypes of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), so as to authenticate the potential immune subtypes that respond to immunotherapy. Transcriptome expression profile and mutation profile data of ccRCC, as well as clinical characteristics used in this study were obtained from TCGA database.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have demonstrated remarkable efficacy in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, only a minority of NSCLC patients benefit from ICIs, and whether the magnitude of benefit is specific factor-dependent remains unclear. We performed a systematic review to improve our understanding of clinicopathologic and biomolecular features associated with improved survival upon treatment with ICIs for NSCLC.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by excessive activation of T and B lymphocytes and breakdown of immune tolerance to autoantigens. Despite several mechanisms including the genetic alterations and inflammatory responses have been reported, the overall signature genes in CD4 T cells and how they affect the pathological process of SLE remain to be elucidated. This study aimed to identify the crucial genes, potential biological processes and pathways underlying SLE pathogenesis by integrated bioinformatics.

Background: The ideal neural interface or scaffold for stem cell therapy shall have good biocompatibility promoting survival, maturation and integration of neural stem cells (NSCs) in targeted brain regions. The unique electrical, hydrophilic and surface-modifiable properties of TiCT MXene make it an attractive substrate, but little is known about how it interacts with NSCs during development and maturation.

Results: In this study, we cultured NSCs on TiCT MXene and examined its effects on morphological and electrophysiological properties of NSC-derived neurons.

Antibiotics provide promising strategies for treating periodontitis, while their delivery and controllable release with desired oral retention remain challenging. Here, inspired by the unique suction-cup structures of abalones, a novel adhesive and photo-responsive microparticle (MP) delivery system is developed to treat periodontitis through microfluidic electrospray technology. Such MPs are generated by quickly ionic cross-linking of sodium alginate together with photo-curing of poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate of the distorted microfluidic droplets during their high-speed dropping into calcium chloride solution.

Emerging studies have reported the expansion of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) in some autoimmune disorders, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), but the detailed molecular mechanisms of the aberrant expansion in SLE are still unclear. In the present study, we confirmed that the increased MDSCs positively correlated with disease activity in SLE patients. The suppressive capacity of MDSCs from patients with high activity was lower than that of MDSCs from patients with low activity.

State Key Laboratory of Cancer Biology, National Clinical Research Center for Digestive Diseases and Xijing Hospital of Digestive Diseases, Air Force Military Medical University, 710032, Xi'an, China.

Ferroptosis, a novel regulated cell death induced by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation, plays an important role in tumor development and drug resistance. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are associated with various types of cancer. However, the precise roles of many lncRNAs in tumorigenesis remain elusive.

Microcarrier-based mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) delivery have attracted increasing attention in acute liver failure (ALF) therapy, while there is still room for improvement in terms of improving cell loading efficiency, enhancing anti-inflammatory features, and controlling cell release. Here, novel lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-composited magnetic-thermal responsive inverse opal particles (MIOPs) are presented for the delivery of MSCs. The MIOPs are composed of a chitosan inverse opal skeleton filled with a hydrogel containing LPS, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide), and Fe O nanoparticles.

Background: pT1b esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients treated by endoscopic resection (ER) required additional treatment with surgical resection (SR) or chemoradiotherapy (CRT) according to 2020 Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society (JGES) guideline. Given the evidences for this recommendation were largely based on small-size studies, our study collected 166 cases of ER-treated pT1b patients in order to investigate the efficacy of additional SR as compared to ER-alone treatment.

Methods: A multi-institutional retrospective study in China was conducted.

Introduction: High risk of lymph node metastasis (LNM) in gastric papillary adenocarcinoma causes endoscopists to worry about the suitability of endoscopic resection for early gastric papillary adenocarcinoma (EPAC). We compared risk factors and attempted to establish a scoring system to stratify LNM risk in patients with EPAC.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on 2,513 patients with early gastric carcinoma (EGC) who underwent radical resection in 4 tertiary hospitals in China.
