Thalamic structure and anastomosis in different hemispheres of moyamoya disease.

Front Neurosci

January 2023

Key Laboratory of Biomedical Engineering of Ministry of Education, College of Biomedical Engineering and Instrument Science, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China.

Objective: The progression of the asymptomatic hemisphere of moyamoya disease (MMD) is largely unknown. In this study, we investigated the differences in subcortical gray matter structure and angiographic features between asymptomatic and symptomatic hemispheres in patients with MMD.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients with MMD in consecutive cases in our center.

The present study was performed to evaluate the effects of the medial and anterolateral approach combined with internal fixation by double head compression screws and countersunk K-wires for Hawkins Ⅲ talus neck and medial malleolus fracture. Eleven patients with articular surface crush injury resulting in Hawkins Ⅲ talus neck fractures accompanied by medial malleolus fractures were reviewed. All patients underwent emergency operations.

Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a fatal disease with dismal survival rates. Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) expression profiling as potential prognostic biomarkers play critical roles in tumor initiation, development, and poor prognosis. Identifying specific lncRNA to predict the prognosis of CCA patients in the early stages is very important for improving a patient's survival.

Three-column classification of tibial plateau fractures is based on computerized tomography (CT) images, and the patients with three-column fractures can be treated with posteromedial combined with anterolateral approach in the floating position. However, there are certain disadvantages to operating in a "floating position". Therefore, we proposed an "out-in" position for those fractures.

Autophagy-Related Beclin 1 and Head and Neck Cancers.

Onco Targets Ther

June 2020

Department of Otolaryngology, The First Affiliated Hospital, College of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, Zhejiang 310003, People's Republic of China.

Beclin 1, a positive regulator of autophagy, behaves as a double-edged sword in tumorigenesis. Beclin 1 contributes to tumor suppression by removing defective or damaged organelles and other cellular components; however, its activity can also stimulate cancer initiation and progression. In head and neck cancer, Beclin 1 overexpression promotes autophagy, which limits DNA damage and chromosomal instability and increases necrosis and inflammation by impacting apoptotic and autophagic pathways.

May 2021

Department of Orthopaedics, The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, Hangzhou, China; The First Clinical College, Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, Hangzhou, 310006, Zhejiang, China. Electronic address:

Background: This study assessed the reliability and validity of the modified Unified Classification System for femur fractures after hip arthroplasty.

Methods: Four hundred and two cases were evaluated by 6 observers, 3 experts and 3 trainee surgeons. Each observer read the radiographs on 2 separate occasions and classified each case as to its type.

Department of Orthopaedics, The Second Affiliated Hospital and Yuying Children's Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, China; Key Laboratory of Orthopaedics of Zhejiang Province, Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, China; The Second School of Medicine, Wenzhou Medical University, Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. Electronic address:

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is a major cause of low back pain (LBP), and effective therapies are still lacking. Previous studies reported that mitochondrial dysfunction contributes to apoptosis, and urolithin A (UA) specifically induces mitophagy. Herein, we aimed to investigate the protective effect of UA-induced mitophagy on tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP)-induced apoptosis in nucleus pulposus (NP) cells in vitro and a rat model of IDD in vivo.

The role of autophagy and mitophagy in cancers.

Arch Physiol Biochem

April 2022

Diabetes Research Center, School of Medicine, Ningbo University, Ningbo, People's Republic of China.

Autophagy is an important life phenomenon in eukaryotic cells. Its main role is to remove and degrade its damaged organelles and excess biological macromolecules, and use degradation products to provide energy and rebuild the cell structure, playing an important role in maintaining cell homeostasis and cell life activities. Mitophagy is a form of macroautophagy.

Background: Reconstruction of Myerson type III (defect size more than 5 cm) chronic Achilles tendon ruptures (CATRs) is a surgical challenge due to its large Achilles tendon defect. This study aims to describe our operative technique for Myerson type III CATR and its clinical outcomes.

Patients And Methods: From May 2012 to April 2015, we treated seven patients (6 males, 1 female) with Myerson type III CATR using semitendinosus tendon and gracilis tendon autograft.

Objective: To explore the relationship between intervertebral disk degeneration and endplate microvasculature, and to determine the role of apoptosis in the pathophysiology underlying end plate microvasculature.

Methods: Twelve 6-month-old rabbits were randomly divided into group A (control group where animals underwent a sham operation, in which the loading device was implanted but without loading) and group B (degeneration group, where a calibrated spring within the loading device would immediately create static shear force of 50 N to the disk of L4-5). Paraffin-embedded midsagittal sections of the L4-5 disk were obtained 4 weeks after surgery in the both groups.

Matrix metalloproteinases-9 (MMP-9) was one of the most important enzyme to breakdown extracellular matrix, aim to clarify the prognostic value of MMP-9 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), we investigated the serum MMP-9 of NSCLC patients and performed a meta-analysis of the published literature. The expression and activity of serum MMP-9 were assessed by ELISA and gelatin zymography in 163 NSCLC patients. Moreover, 26 studies were included in meta-analysis by searching Medline and ISI Web of Knowledge.

Background: It is suggested that hypoxic-ischemic retinal diseases induce loss of retinal ganglion cells. Excess glutamate release is involved in these conditions. A predominant function of Müller cells is to regulate glutamate levels, but in these diseases the function is compromised.
